Thank you very much VeryPC! We received ours today and a nice bit of things. Lost the mug straight away to Finance who opened it before we did.

Hi All, We have installed Read and Write for Windows and set up for multiuser use with our product key. We have whitelisted the URLs mentioned on their website and tested the licence checker with all okay. We have set up a share on the server where the admins and users have read and write permissions. The issue is when we run the program for any user, it still shows the 'You have 30 days left to try our premium...' When I click the 'About Read&Write' then it just shows the version and no longer asks for the Product key which from my understanding it should now be activated. Any idea on how to remove the 'You have 30 days....' from the program? The RWSettings program shows the key in the XML document. I have also tried calling their support several times, but the phone just rings and no one answers. Any ideas on how to sort this or help to resolve this would be appreciated as I'm pulling what little hair out that I have left. Thanks

We were pretty much told the same thing and our LA emailed us a Sale and Purchase of Devices agreement which would transfer the devices over to the school and we would be liable to pay £1.00 if demanded by the Council.

We received 6 of these HP 255 G7 laptops for our looked after children delivered to the LA. They are very locked down and even the admin side is somewhat locked. We managed to finally get the Admin passwords after a member of the LA spent several days trying to get them, but they were told it was the BIOS password they received which it was not from the xma help desk. Anyone have an idea on what program is mentioned to unlock the BIOS: "3. Unlock the device BIOS a. Follow the instructions provided by XMA which will be correct for your device type. This usually includes running a program “as administrator” which removes password protection from the BIOS and enables network and USB boot options, but please refer to instructions from the XMA support team." Even booting from USB is locked out, so you can't do much without the BIOS password. Really frustrating. Not to mention the auto login working a few times, then stopped. We had a student who used one and set a user password, but did not know what he set it too. Had to remove the password via command due to the admin side being locked down and user account settings greyed out.

Expired Add Trust CA Root

No problem and thanks for the info. Fortinet forum just suggests to either disable SSL Inspection, or wait for the websites to replace the expired certificate. Not really helpful from them. -
Expired Add Trust CA Root
Anothername replied to Anothername's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We use Fortinet. Any ideas in how to do this on Fortinet? Thanks. -
Has anyone heard anything about the root Certificate from Add Trust expiring? Several of the websites we access are coming up as blocked by the firewall. On further checking it was found the Add trust root certificate had expired a few days ago. Sites like exampro, and doublestuck.EU are getting blocked.

I did find the database and it was hosted on a virtual server, but had to rdp into the server rather than the SIMS folder that was being shared from the server.
-
I have searched for the FMSConnect ini on the virtual server, but only seem to find old fms ini files, which point to a database called 'academy'. Searching on the virtual server for the academy database yields no results neither does searching for a data base called FMSSql. I can only think it must still be hosted on a local computer. I'll have a look at the FMSConnect.ini on the client.

Our SIMS/FMS was moved over to a virtual server as we have moved over to Bromcom. We still use FMS for finance and have access to our old SIMs but are needing to install an data extraction API for FMS. The connect ini settings I can find are from like 2016 but they don't appear to work with inflo. I'm trying now with the IP address of the virtual SIMS server rather than servers name to see if that works. Still can't find the fms database. Not sure if it might have been installed on a local machine. No one here has a SA account and there are so many old versions of SIMS/FMS in the SIMS folder that it's hard to unpick.

Hi All, Is there a way to find the SIMS FMS database location from within SIMS FMS? The connect ini file has it listed, but on searching I can't find the database name it mentioned. Thanks.

Hi All, we are having issues with papercut at the moment running on our Server. For some reason the options such as duplex are greyed out, even though duplex was selected when installing the drivers. Papercut shows that Students can only print 5 pages at a time, yet it was found this does not appear to be working as one student was able to do a print job with 18 pages. We are using the latest print drivers and the printers support duplex. Weekly account balances have also not been resetting properly even though Papercut shows the students should be getting £2.00 per week. It's odd as everything is set up, but not everything is fully working such as with the duplex. Anyone come across this before? Thanks

Hey all, after a network upgrade and moving over to Windows 10, I seem to be having and issue with a Riso Comcolor FW5230 machine with finisher(booklets, folds, staples, etc). After installing the printer drivers, everything seems to work except the options for booklets and Stapling. Those options are greyed out and can't be changed. I tried a new driver with the same issue. These settings worked before under Windows 7. Anyone else come across this issue or any idea on how to resolve it? Thanks.

Hi all, was just wondering if anyone has a copy of an 'IT change control form' that I might be able to use or modify. Thanks

Hi all, Just trying to get my head around Windows 10 and elevating privileges and wonder if anyone can help. Our network is pretty locked down and things like teamviewer and LogMeIn123 is blocked by the firewall. I can log on as an admin and access those sites, but how do I elevate the users account with my admin password to allow access to teamviewer or Logmein123 which is online. For example a company needs to remote into the workstation while the standard user is logged in and while they have the problem program open. Can I just open Chrome with the Run as administrator? Will it ask for a password to elevate it to allow me to open Logmein123? Not sure if this all makes sense. Thanks for any help or info.

Thanks....can't believe I missed that and has done the trick.

We have had some new printers set up on our network, and the old printers have been removed. We use a log on script(batch file) on our Server 2008r2 and in the past I have just added in the REM rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /dn /n \\SERVER\printername to the login batch file and it has worked without issue in removing the old print share when staff and pupils log on. This now does not appear to be working to remove the old print share....am I missing something or any idea's? Thanks

InVentry and GDPR
Anothername replied to Anothername's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Thanks all for the responses. We are currently on an older version and have not been upgraded yet. I have to do a webinar now to get the upgrade, so will be able to look at it again once we are on the new version. -
We currently run the InVentry sign in system and pupil's parent's sign in pupils if they are late etc. We have now been told by our DPO that the sign in system is not good as anyone could click the Pupil's tab, year group, then see a list of pupils in that class. He's not happy that it has the pupils first and last name....this is linked to SIMS though as well as the parents/pupils being able to select their lunch choice, and for evacuation/fire lists. Anyone else have this issue and how do you get around it? He was mortified when he came for a 2nd visit and his name popped up on InVentry from his visit 3 weeks earlier.

Hi all, Were looking at updating our wireless network and having some new network points put in for some PoE WAP's. In some of the area's we are going to need new cabling/data points, but in a few area's we have existing Cat5 with data points already in place. Would you suggest running new cabling to replace the old or can we run PoE over the Cat5 that we have existing? Were currently looking at the Unifi system. Thanks.

That does sound to me like a build up of dust on the lens assembly as with a new lamp not appearing any brighter. Is there a bluish tinge on a plain white background say a blank word document on the screen? Give the air duster a go and see how you get on and keep us updated.
-
Are other colours coming through but with a blue tinge? I've had where there has been a build up of dust on the LCD, mirrors, or polarizers and this has created a light blue haze over the entire screen.

Hi all, I'm looking into this as well at the moment in relation to OTrack pupil attainment. Wonde basically want full read/write access to our SIMS. On the sheet they sent me in relation to what data is taken for OTrack it looks pretty much like a complete data grab. For example listed is things like Employees address, Employee's diet, Employee's next of kin, telephone number, etc, student contact details, students diet, photograph, etc.....what does any of that have to do with a pupil attainment program? So do they do a blanket grab of data and then just pass on what is needed to the requester?

CCTV retention and GDPR
Anothername replied to Anothername's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
That was kind of what I was wondering for holiday periods. I thought maybe 60 days retention to cover this period but was not sure if there was a set amount of time we could hold this for. At the moment we don't appear to have a CCTV policy and no one here(admin) seems to have any idea on the retention time. It seems the pvr records up to 6 months as default and that is just what it was left at. I thought it was a good time to address this with the GDPR coming in.
