  1. Hi all, Currently we have Bromcom pushing through staff timetables on Outlook. Is it possible to do something similar for students so that they can view their timetables via Outlook? Many thanks
  2. Hi all, I’m a teacher who moved school in September and interested in computers. At my last place when logging on, the screen just used to say ‘welcome’ whereas at my new place I get a range of messages such as mapping drives, applying group drive policy etc. Are both of these networks set up in different ways? Just interested! Thanks
  3. Hi all, I'm a teacher in a secondary school and am just interested in computers and networking in general. At my school, when I log into certain machines it loads up using windows 7 basic theme, whereas when I log on a machine elsewhere it loads up in an aero theme. The option to change the theme is disabled by the system administrator - because of this I thought that all machines connected to the network would use a consistent theme. How come this isn't the case? Many thanks!
  4. Yes, I have always had to enter the details before, but usually it just works fine and loads up! I'm sure in the login box it does have the correct domain listed
  5. Thanks for the replies. We have office 2010 - don't know if that makes a difference or not!?
  6. Hi all, I'm a teacher at a school and have a major problem - we have trackers and lesson resources stored on sharepoint and prior to the update we were able to load these up. Since the updates on Tuesday word/powerpoint/excel load up and the credentials box appears. After typing in my correct credentials the box then appears on the screen again and the office application states that it is no longer responding. I've spoken to the ICT team at school but as yet they do not know what the problem is. Has anybody else been experiencing this issue since the windows update this week? Many thanks
  7. Hi all, Question as above! Really prefer using small task bar items but miss the date being displayed. Is there anyway to make this possible? Thanks!
  8. I've tried to login to a student PC but it doesn't recognise my credentials. There's 2 networks which are completely separate I believe.
  9. I'm not sure - it's always been like this since I arrived at the school. I know that 2 networks exist, one for staff and I think another for students
  10. Everyone seems to have this issue! When I log out the computer still remembers my user name and other users have to press 'switch user' to log in
  11. Hi all, Worked in a number of schools as a teacher and have never come across a network set up which is currently in use. When I log in for the first time on a machine around school it takes ages to load to the desktop. It seems as if all of my files are downloaded onto the hard drive of the computer. I have around 15GB of documents etc on the network. To find files I have to go through the explorer and then locate my network user name and then go into documents. I can see a list of other users who have previously logged into the machine but cannot access there files. Is this a common way to set up a network? Am I right in thinking that it works in this way? I'm not an IT specialist but just interested in computers and networking! Many thanks
  12. Hi all, I'm trying to use a password protected Datatraveler USB stick which has been given to me by my school on my personal laptop running Windows 8.1 but it will not let me access the files. The password program appears to hang on 'not responding' and then when I go to access files it asks me to insert the USB (as if nothing is being picked up by the laptop). Had a quick look on the datatravler website but cannot find what I am looking for. Is this device compatible with Windows 8.1 as it works on a school Windows XP machine? Thanks a lot!
