  1. Just thought I'd update this.... we ended up buying the Asus X200MA from PC World Business for £165. It is an 11.6" so it is bigger than I wanted but it was a good price. Downloadable to windows 7 with 64-bit drivers.
  2. Hmm, that really isn't a bad price. My school do seem to be a little funny about buying refurbished though, mainly due to the warranty... which is a shame as it could be a massive cost saving. Although I noticed you can get the 12 and 24 month RTB. I haven't purchased the other one yet so will consider this. Thanks.
  3. I have found an Asus X200MA for £199. Available from PC world and downloadable to windows 7 (64-bit). Had to compromise on the screen size though at 11.6". The students will all be fighting for this one I guess!
  4. Thanks for the replies guys I am looking for a netbook though, not a tablet...
  5. Hi, We have a set of 30 Samsung NC110 netbooks 10.1" in a trolley. One has broken and I need to find a suitable replacement for £200-£250. I am struggling to find a 10.1" Netbook that I can downgrade to windows 7 with the correct drivers. Does anyone have any suggestions? We normally order with Misco but I was told that all the main vendors have stopped making netbooks now and only do tablets or laptops. Thanks
  6. Yes, you need aiStarter on the PC (only for USB) and Ai Companion on the tablet. For the wireless you need Ai Companion installed on the tablet but nothing on the computer. I can't seem to get the tablet to receive the app over our current wireless network; I am going to test on a separate wireless network today. I haven't done anything to do with virtual environments yet (recent graduate) and I am unsure if a virtual PC would be able to see the tablet?
  7. Hi, We have App Inventor installed on our networked machines in a few classrooms. It has been nothing but a pain! We set about getting 14 standalone PC's for App Inventor and using one as an SQL server; however we are now looking at a virtual environment for this. We will be using some android tablets to test the apps being made, preferably over a separate wireless network. Has anyone done this? Can anyone see any major problems we may run into? Regards, Ben
  8. Sorry to bring up an old thread... A unifi 35 came in from a local school free of charge so we took up the offer. The top most forward fan was making a noise. I took it apart and cleaned it up with compressed air. This only changed the noise the fan was making. So took apart again and used some wd40. The fan is now quiet enough to use but not silent. Despite reading no where can supply a replacement I had a call/email around and got this back from Equinox: They will not supply just the fan though. £115 is excessive for a job that has taken me 2 minutes!

    IE10 issues

We seems to be having a strange problem in a few classrooms at the moment with anything above IE9. When a user visits a webpage such as; Google, Go4schools and Sleuth the page seems to load below the visible screen. They get a blank page and have to scroll down the page to see the website. If they click the white/blank area they are then not able to type in the google search field or any text box once they have scrolled down. This problem happens only on a few PC's with IE10 or IE11. If I downgrade to IE9, use chrome or firefox there isn't a problem. I have searched the web but can't seem to find a solution/cause. Any ideas? Thanks
  11. It connected and I selected auto start. When I reset the PC it said 1 device found (activ hub) Going to try and find a serial card now.
  12. Ok, so I followed the instructions and got 5.7.22.1 I have installed it, the board is on COM3. I had to go into the active manager and onto the connections tab. Selected COM3 and clicked connect. It is saying attempting to connect and has been stuck on this dialog box for the past 20 minutes. It goes from 1% to 100% and then just starts at 1% again. The board is connected within the first 10 seconds and I can use it but the attempting to connect window will not go away???
  13. Thanks for that. Handy to know
  14. Just called them up and they have sent out 5.7.22. Will let you guys know the update when the room is free!
  15. Ah ok. See we were running Windows 7 before on the old PC and new with our Windows 7 build. I have shown how to manually connect but the teacher is not best pleased. We are using Activ Inspire. Have tried a few previous drivers we have stored on our server along with 5.9.16 and 5.9.27 - all with no joy. I will give them a call now and ask for 5.7. Thanks for that pointer, although it is strange as we have other rooms with exactly the same setup (apart from the PC) that work with no problems.
  16. Hi, Currently having trouble with a PRM-AB2-01 board. The board used to work fine via the PC's serial port. We also have an Activ Hub and slate. The computer later gave up so I got a new PC in which does not have a serial port. I a spare Keyspan adaptor so decided to use that, set it up etc and it was all working fine until the PC was shutdown and powered up the next morning..... When the PC is started the board does not Auto connect. The keyspan LED light flashes which I believe means it is in idle mode. I tried a cheap USB to serial adaptor to see if it was a problem with the Keyspan but have exactly the same issue. I have uninstalled all Activ software including the activ driver, reinstalled it, updated to the newest versions of activ inspire and driver, updated the keyspan drivers, tried to update the board firmware (button is greyed out), run windows update. In Activ manager I have clicked the Auto startup option but everytime I restart it will not auto connect, it always switches back itself back to manual connect however the Activ Hub ALWAYS connects on startup. Each morning I have to open Activ manager and manually select COM3, then connect. And then it works fine until the PC is restarted. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  17. Hi, I graduated from university last year and got a 2:1 in computer networking. I am currently in a role at an academy as an IT Tech and I have been given the opportunity to go on some training. I have learnt CCNA and CCNP but have not taken the final exams. I am looking at doing the "Installing and Configuring Windows Server 2012" training and the 410 exam. I have checked the prerequisites and feel I meet all of them. After completing this course, students will be able to: Install and configure Windows Server 2012. Describe AD DS. Manage Active Directory objects. Automate Active Directory administration. Implement IPv4. Implement Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). Implement Domain Name System (DNS). Implement IPv6. Implement local storage. Implement file and print services. Implement Group Policy. Secure Windows servers by using Group Policy Objects (GPOs). Implement server virtualization by using Hyper-V. All of the above apart from IPv6 are used in the academy so would greatly benefit me. My question is: Do you think this is the best course for me to start with? Thanks http://staticc2.cdngeek.net/images/smilies/smile.png
  18. Strange... never had this problem before! Thank anyway!
  19. It works with compatibility view... Thanks for that newpersn Is it that MyMaths is designed for older versions of IE? Currently running IE10 version 10.0.9200.16750
  20. Thanks for the reply. I updated Flash but still get the same problem. I have tested with an admin login and it works, student login does not work.
  21. Hi, Can anyone let me know what this is? I assumed it was policy central (some facebook related items come up as this) however it works for some students and not for others. When a student opens the homework they get the following error/problem. >>>> wdqdqwdq.bmp <<<<
  22. Hi All, Just stumbled across this website and have already found tonnes of useful information! We are currently having a problem at our school where students can save serif files (web plus, page plus etc) to My Computer as a "Network Location" (C:\users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network Shortcut This causes confusion when the students come up to our office and say they have lost their work... we then go on a big hunt around the file server and all our backups but find no trace of the file. The reason for this is when they click the save/save as button the default directory is my computer. The students quickly save it before break/lunch/home and then forget about it until next lesson. If they come back to the same computer, it is in their recently opened list and they can work on it, however if they change computers they can obviously not see it as it is saved locally. Students also claim that they have saved in their home directory and when moving to another computer the file moves itself to My Computer...? I don't understand how users can 'save' to My Computer, they have no access to write on the C drive. I have phoned Serif and they have said that the default save location cannot be changed. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
