  1. Yes it's a combined Vista / Server 2008 version. Version 5.xxx I think rather than the XP version 4.xxx
  2. Hi, Having a few issues with Folder Redirection under Windows Vista. Have got a group policy that has been used since Windows XP and works fine for that. Redirecting My Documents to Home Drive and Desktop / Start Menu to a single location according to group membership. As previosuly said this all works ok for XP. When we login with a Windows Vista PC all the re-direction still works however we notcied that the "Favorite Links" section in Windows Explorer and the Save File Dialog lists a load of link such as Documents etc... These links then link to the local profile not the re-directed sections. I have attempted to redirect the Links folder using Folder Redirection but nothing seems to happen. I also setup a login script to delete all the links from the Links folder upon login. Which works for Windows Explorer but in the standard file save dialog some still appear and in the Office 2007 one loads appear! Can't find where they are getting them from!. Also students can just click restore default links and it puts all the deleted ones back in! Any ideas? Anyone got this working correctly or is there something i'm missing? 3. Not sure if this is the right place for this but they consider them "Virtualization Kits". We currently have three IT rooms (approx 33 stations per room) setup with nComputing X550 kits and the host machines running Windows Vista Business 32bit. The host machines we purchased are reasonably good being Quad Core, 4GB and decent graphics card. And we are running 4-5 nComputing units off each host. However we are getting the following issues at times and was wondering if anyone else had come across the same? If the hosts are left on overnight the nComputing units disconnect and in the morning are unable to re-connect. Have to reboot the host PC. Over a random period we have had hosts come up with the error of the nComputing database is corrupt and would we like to restore. Restore always fails and have to remove and re-install the nComputing software on the hosts. This is completely random and can go weeks without it doing it and then sometimes a large majority of the hosts do it. Sometimes the login (via Win2008 domain) fails with various different messages; Group Policy denied the login access denied and also Profile could not be loaded etc... A reboot of the host and the login goes through fine. The remember last username setting doesn't seem to work. It always remember the last user to login! This has been set within group policy and within the nComputing settings. Neither seem to work on the nComputing stations. Rest of the domain is fine. Any help would be appreciated. 4. Hi, We have a replacement project for an ICT room this summer and are wondering if we should go down the Thin Client route. We have an HP device coming later today and some other device coming tomorrow which should give us an idea of the setup and use, but won't really give us an idea of the performance. Bit of a cheek I know, but is there anyone in the Devon area that has a Thin Client setup that wouldn't mind a couple of us coming to see? Just want to get an idea of setup, performance and issues really. Hope you can help. Neil.
  5. I take it no-one has tried as yet to virtualise Facility?
  6. Hi, For the past year and a bit we have been using Facility Admin and ePortal on a DL380 G4 server which seemed to run fine. Recently however it server dropped it's RAID array and we then decided to virtualise the server using VMware ESX. However since doing so we have noticed that the performance has dropped considerably (now using a DL380 G5 with 2 x Xeon 3.4Ghz processors, 6GB RAM, SCSI etc). We were considering purchasing a HP MSA SAN unit to hold the virtual files but if the performace carries on as currently using the SAN it woul dbe worthless. A facility backup takes over 2 hours to restore! Yet if I restore the same data on a test laptop it took 20mins! I have tried to remove the possibility of hardware by putting in on a different DL380 server (all be it with only 2GB of RAM) that is running the free version of VMware Server 1.04 but this again still takes hours to restore. Has anyone on here successfully virtualised Facility and if so do you experience any real performance issues? Or can someone point me in the right direction to look. Many thanks, Neil
