Just after following these instructions on an Acer Aspire 5536. Had a dead laptop after carrying out a bios update from 1.08 - 1.11 Tried multiple recovery options but the above worked using the ctrl+esc keys upon bootup. Laptop is back to life. The bios file from the acer site didnt have the file specified in the instructions here, so I used the .BIOS file and gave it a go, worked a treat. Thanks a million
