If you plan on using 2012 R2 for your print server check drivers are available for all your printers in both 32 and 64 bit, we had issues with some older printers and 2008 R2 a few years back and reverted back to 2003 in the end.

We've been using Papercut NG for the last 4 years and are looking at upgrading to MF, we are licensed for 2500 users so quite a large single site. We'd like to reduce the number of printers and install some MFDs like the HP M680, although we are open to other suggestions. Papercut embedded onto the device is preferrable. Print release is the main objective, we have a few areas with large amounts of wastage and also in turn, with fewer printers hopefully we can save some money on toner! Our cashless catering system (cunninghams) uses Biostore and we wish to integrate that with papercut. I've read a few vague posts but wondered if people could share more details such as the biometric hardware required, any additional software or licenses, what model MFDs they are using and if there are any drawbacks to the system? Thanks in advance

How did you get on with this? We're in the same situation, 180 eligible users (EES Agreement) with 1800 mailboxes. I've asked our resller and contacted the Microsoft VLS team and no one is certain!

Webdav on our windows 2008 r2 server issue
sturgeo replied to sidnuts's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I've got the same issue but only when i try to navigate directly to a sub folder, if i go to the root i.e. https://work.myschool.com and navigate down the folder structure it works fine. -
Sorry, 1 last question i promise Is anyone using the Anti-Spam features? we host our own exchange 2010 servers and have a websense email filter and ideally we'll like to remove it.

Thanks for the replies, i'll look into the Smoothwall solutions. We'd be setting this device up as the clients default gateway, no proxy settings at all. Is this how most people have it configured and is it able to filter HTTPS traffic this way?

CCTV Solution 20+ Cameras and recording server etc
sturgeo replied to RabbieBurns's topic in Physical Security
Sorry for the thread divert but we currently have around 30 Mobotix cameras here, recording directly to 3 snap nas boxes. All of this is done through the cameras settings, no additional software. Due to the poor performance when retrieving footage using MxCC we are looking at Milestone & Mirasys to hopefully improve things. With Milestone, instead of the camera recording/retrieving directly from the NAS boxes does the milestone software do this? Thanks John -
Many thanks for the replies. Has anyone used a Smoothwall UTM in conjuction with a wireless guest network? I wonder if it'll be possible to use NTLM for all the desktops etc and webpage auth for the wireless guest network?

Hi, We currently use a Cisco 4402 WLC which is at its capacity of 50 AP's, A Bloxx Webfilter due for renewal and a Global Technologies Firewall which is backwards. The Bloxx unit is currently acting as a transparent proxy (cabled physically between core switch and firewall), clients use our Cisco core switch as the default gateway and this routes traffic to the firewall on a different VLAN (passing through the bloxx unit). The proxy isnt configured on clients, we use the bloxx sendlogon app which runs as logon and logoff scripts so the bloxx unit know who is on a particular machine, thus giving them the appropriate web filtering policy. The bloxx unit has to be configured this way due to our guest wireless network works, a proxy cant be configured. Also this allows us to webfilter smartphones and tablets etc which do login to our normal wireless network (authenticates against AD) but these get a general webfiltering policy as the bloxx unit doesnt know who is using the device. We recently had a representative from Sonicwall discuss there range of NSA devices which will combine the firewall, web content filter and WLC. This looks like an appealing solution as we can set this device as the clients default gateway, filtering will be transparent for any AD machines and any other wireless device. If we use the Sonicwall appliance for wireless authentication it'll know who is on what wireless device and be able to apply the correct web filtering policy unlike our existing solution. Does anyone use the Sonicwall devices for these purposes or does anyone have any other products that'll perform these actions? Thanks John

We were experiencing the same problem, i resorted to setting up 2003 R2 server and installing all the printer specific drivers rather than the HP universal driver we'd been using on 2008 R2. It appeared on our machines that the driver repository files were there but the HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\print\environments\windows NT x86\drivers had the infpath listed as blank so it couldnt find it when it tried to reinstall.

Have you made the W2K8R2 server a DC? We are moving away from CC3 to W2K8 Vanilla with possibly Burconix Management Tools. Due to the amount of things internally hosted on the domain (email, sharepoint, SLG, wireless, etc) we are keeping the same domain and have created a new OU outside of "Establishments" and blocked inheritance etc. The next step will be to create a new W2K8R2 DC but when we dcpromo it it'll want to upgrade schema etc and we need to keep CC3 working until the summer

Hi, We are moving away from RM CC3 to a vanilla 2008R2 over the summer and need a location chooser type product. Most teachers have laptops and often teach in different areas so managing printers can be a problem. Does anyone know of a program that asks what location the computer is in and adds printers accordingly(either by OU locations or a central database? Thanks John

Just the database, i've installed SQL 2008 R2 so will let you know if it works when we migrate, i'll be honest though, i have my doubts!

I've just spoke to Capita .ict and they said that i can remotely host the database on a Server 2008 R2 box running SQL 2008 R2

Hi, We have our own sharepoint server and wish to set up additional sites for Room Booking and a IT Helpdesk. We've looked at the free microsoft templates but they dont offer the required functionality. Has anyone got any alternatives that they use within sharepoint? Thanks

We use Any Video Converter on a few machines here but arent having much luck packaging it up for distribution on a RM CC3 Network, has anyone got it to work?

Moving from CC3 to Vanilla.....
sturgeo replied to mcnallyfc's topic in Network and Classroom Management
We're also considering this, we were planning on moving to CC4 but that looks like it isnt going to happen now. I'm from a vanilla background and as much as i love some of the RM features (printer/software deployment, outlook profiles, etc) i think it'll be doable without RM. -
Did you manage to find out how to do it?

I've successfully added a client (10.5) to the OD but it won't let me join the AD. Keeps coming up with Active Directory Time Error, i've tried everything recommended to fix it but it still wont play ball. Joining the AD on the Xserve (10.6) was faultless, i might wait until our snow leopard upgrades or new machines turn up to see if it works
-
Hmmm, now i've had a coffee and woken up abit i realised i needed to log into LDAP as diradmin rather than the normal administrator user I've successfully created user and computer groups and added users from the AD into the managed user groups. Now time to set some policies and try adding a client machine
-
We've got a nice new Xserve running 10.6 and are trying to get it setup in a AD-OD environment. After the initial install its already enabled DNS and OD, i've stopped and removed DNS as this is running on the windows DC's. Its successfully binded to the AD but when i load up Workgroup Manager and select LDAP it asks for authentication details and wont let me log in If i select the AD in Workgroup manager it pulls all the users and computers in but doesnt let me add any groups, i get a Error of type eDSNoStdMappingAvailable message, is that normal? Many thanks Sturgeo

Hi, many thanks for the reply. Thats good news, they need to do lesson plans offsite using logic and if they couldnt login that might cause a few problems!

Hi, We're planning on putting in a new music suite compromising of 21 iMacs and 4 Macbook Pros for the staff. These will be joined to the domain for authentication and open directory for policies etc. Will the staff be able to log into the laptops when they arent onsite connected to our network like you can with windows laptops? Thanks
