  1. Big office, plenty of room storage and work space. seperate server room full aircon. BSF, don't you just love it....best thing that ever happened.
  2. If you change job and have to sign a new contract make sure that length of service continues. If you have worked for a company for x years and move to another part of it your length of service would not be changed to 0, nor should it if you make an internal move after TUPE. Pensions, once you sign a new contract you will have to leave the LGPS and join the company scheme and the LGPS can become a deferred pension. If you then come back to the LGPS at some future date you just rejoin and previous contributions are taken into account. that is my understanding of the way it works and how it was exlpained to me.
  3. My union rep during the TUPE process was rubbish, turned up late if at all. The HR dept from the LA were awful, about 2 years before at a meeting one of them announced that there were 9 technicians but only 7 jobs! PeteM is right, on day one the new company can get rid of you providing they can put up a good case but TUPE protects your terms and conditions so your length of service counts towards any payoff. How many people do you know have been made redundant by the IT provider after BSF? I had all the concerns and worries about the process as everyone else and even looked for other jobs. The fact is the MSPs have not got loads of staff waiting to move into schools to take all the jobs, what they have got is loads of people in schools already waiting to fill the jobs. I got TUPE’d last year and to be honest it’s been a good experience for me, OK the job has changed a bit but I’m still enjoying it. Same pay, same holidays plus extra benefits such as BUPA cover.
  4. Having been through the process in the last year, basicly mrmontymick has got it just about right.
  5. The SYSADMIN patch worked a treat thanks. still the same problem with UAC off and SIMSapplicationsetup re-run:confused:
  6. Every time we run SIMS it goes through a full upgrade install including asking the user if they wish to continue, do you trust this program etc, etc… it’s a bit of a pain but once it’s open it seems OK, apart from a dll error when I try to run system manager.
  7. How did you get Vista to work with SIMS? i'm having a few problems..............

    BSF....

Waste of time, BSF comes with strings attached. Sign up for managed services or fund your own IT, oh and by the way we'll give you the money for managed services but if you go it alone you'll have to find the £££££££££££ yourself.
  9. I had a problem, the first time on SOLUS had to use the SA password to run FMS upgrades. The found I didn’t have permissions to log in to SOLUS and was unable to create users, change passwords and do admin stuff in FMS. Solved it by getting the helpdesk to log on remotely and reset my admin user rights, I can now logon to SOLUS (FMS) using my own password.
  10. That is the salary range for all Sgts, engineer/technical NCOs in many cases are promoted for what they know, others in the infantry etc are promoted fort he ability to lead and command. Who would you rather employ, some one who can repair a guided missile system or the guy who can lead 30 men in a bayonet charge?
  11. Ex forces NCOs may be on a pension but it’s not that much. Plus who would want to come out of the forces and work for peanuts dealing with the dross and helping deliver parcels around school, (although they would probably be willing to help) A Sergeants salary is between 27 & 32k, an RSM can earn up to 40k, that’s more than a lot of teachers. Just because they get a pension its no excuse to pay them less. People coming out of the forces are mostly highly motivated, in their early 40s and looking for a second career on the same sort of £££ as when they were serving.
