  1. Thanks thats just the sort of thing I'm after
  2. I'm sure they have something in mind however what they think they can do with them and what they actually can do with them are two different things, for example the other school thought there web apps would work not knowing about the flash issue , I just thought it would be nice to have some software to show them so they can get the most out of them.
  3. Hi I've just been told that next week I have to set up Ipad mini's in a bunch of primary schools and there bound to want to know what they can do with them. The other school I deal with already has them and has had them for quite some time, so thinking that I could work out what they do with them and then tell the other schools I asked one of the TA's who's quite into them, I can't say I was surprised to find they haven't really got much use for them as the few web based programs they use are all flash based. I was wondering if anyone on here could recommend some apps/non flash based web apps that I could recommend to all five schools so they get some good use out of these things, I'd hate to see them just end up gathering dust. Many Thanks
  4. Hi I've got a bit of an issue, we are trying to change the homepage on our client machines to google safe search however they've removed the options in group policy editor now and you have to do it through GPP which is fine. The problem is the setting for the old homepage is already in there and we can't remove it. The only way I can think of is to make a new GPO but it's massive and I really don't want to have to re-do it as it works so well. does anyone know how to remove it? Many Thanks

    1 Year left

About 8-10 laptops in two schools and 10 desktops in another, one lot of laptops actually have Win 7 licenses but the muppets before us downgraded them to XP, so I'll be putting them back on 7 ASAP. the rest need replacing.
  6. Witch thank you that solved the problem, your a life saver
  7. Roaming profiles aren't set up just folder re-direction (they have way to much stuff stored to have roaming profiles). I have issues on all the windows XP machines with this user but the Windows 7 machines work fine. Is it possible the local profile got corrupted on all these computers. I've checked gpresults and that looks like it should and I've compared a couple and they are the same. I'm tearing my hair out on this one, they want it sorted yesterday!
  8. Hi I'm having an issue where one user in the school I'm working in takes ages to log in (unfortunatly it's the head). Any machine she logs in on hangs on applying settings after log on, then when the teacher who owns that machine logs on all her favs etc are gone (haven't seen this part for myself yet though). She has the exact same group policy applied as the teacher who owns the machine and she can log on fine. Server is Server 2008 R2 and laptops are Windows XP. The network was RM CC3 but when we migrated to server 2008 R2 from Server 2003 I moved everything out of the control of the RM GPO's and set my own up as they were playing havok with the new Win 7 laptops. Any ideas what might be causing this? Kind Regards
  9. Hi I've just taken over doing a lot of IT work for 5 schools, 4 small schools running W28KR2 and 1 big one that's running Mac OS X server snow leopard). All the schools are part of the same group but I've noticed that of the 3 i've been to so far only one has a working backup! My boss has asked me to look into this and sort out something. He has suggested backing up the 4 smaller schools to the big one and the big one to the smaller school with the best upload speed so there is always an offsite backup. Now the big school has 1.2TB (at least) of data so I think we would need something that only backed up changes rather than everything. what are the pitfalls of doing this and what software should I be using. Many Thanks
  10. Hi I've been asked to add a URL shortcut to the students desktops at one of the schools I work in, they are running mac Server 10.6 and macbooks on 10.6 (some 10.5 I think). the only way I can think of is to go into every single desktop folder and add it, as theirs 341 kids I would like to find a better way, any ideas? Many Thanks
  11. Hi I'm currently having an issue, In the school I work in the teachers all have laptops that they take home and use as there personal computers. The problem I'm having is this then all syncs back in the school and has filled up the 6TB NAS! I would like to limit what is synced to just documents but when I go to mobile account preferences all the tick boxes are greyed out and I can't change a thing! The server is Snow Leopard as are all the machines, is it something I will need to do from the server? Sorry I know very little about Macs. Kind Regards Dan
  12. Thanks. Defiantly not going to jailbreak them there would be hell to pay if they went wrong and I had done that. The school is only a small primary school so most likely won't need any more so I'll look at doing it through Itunes for now and look into Meraki before one of the bigger schools ask for them (which I'm sure will happen soon). Other than licensing is there anything else that can go wrong with using Itunes on one PC and syncing them Thank you for your help
  13. Hi I have just started my first job as an IT tech, as part of my job I'm covering a few schools. Next week some of them are getting 10+ Ipads and I've got to get them in ASAP. I've been asked to link all the Ipads to one account and make sure that in app purchasing is off. What's the best way to do this that can be done quickly and with as little risk of it going wrong as possible and without costing anything if possible? Can I just install Itunes on one PC and sync all the Ipads from that or is there a much better way to do this?
