  1. Thanks for the links and advice. it's soemthing I've been wanting to do but not sure where to start. Similar to another poster, we are Google based and whilst data studio is ok, it's a bit fiddly in comparison to BI
  2. How do you go about getting the data from SIMS into your BI data source? Are you doing this for one school or across a MAT?
  3. Hi Wondering if anyone has had a similar situation or knows of an answer... If a pupil in year 11, at this late stage, with severe SEN is moved back to year 10 or applies to move to a special school, is there grounds for them to be removed from the y11 cohort in table checking, given that they would have been in the Spring census. If so, what evidence is required? Thanks
  4. Thanks, I'd read that since. Couldn't see anything about them expiring so looks like they will count still? Yes, sat in June 2013
  5. Hi We've 2 students in Year 11 currently who sat a GCSE in the first language back in 2012. They took it again in 2013 and improved on their grades. Will this grade they achieved count in 2016 or has it been to long since sat to be considered, i.e. expired for performance table purposes? Thanks
  6. NCA tools has the current y7 KS2 results, includes the total marks too to be able to calculate sub and fine level/points It doesn't have the Writing teacher assessment though - perhaps those will appear when they are available on Key to Success?
  7. Does anyone know anymore about the post 16 add back rule after seeing it happen to their data in tables checking? Trying to find a worked example of the implications of it as the notes in statement of intent are not completely clear.
  8. Both responses correct so I would back up their understanding of the process
  9. I've been thinking of starting one but not really sure how best to go about it or how useful anything I discuss will be. As you say it could be specific thoughts on a change to the education system, a day in the life of, tools to share that one finds useful. The possibilities are endless I guess.....
  10. Hi Thanks for the responses. I've managed to get a few things from the SFR and asked if I could have some of the tables recreated for AS only which they duly obliged to. When is the Level 3 Value Added report released this year - does anybody know?
  11. Hi Does anyone work for or had experience working with an academy trust that has an MIS solution that is trust wide so all schools on the same MIS allowing someone at the trust to access data for all schools and report on such accordingly? If not does anyone have any thoughts on this or what they would do perhaps? Thanks MVB
  12. Hi Just wondering if anyone here has been to any national/regional data events or trainign courses that are any good and worth going to and you found useful/insightful? Thanks Mark
  13. Thanks for that, unfortunately I had looked and still cant see anything on there about APS per student and entry for AS only, it only appears to display it for A2
  14. Hi all Just wondering if anyone has or knows where I might find National data for AS level Metrics. I have subject grade summary data but I'm looking for any data to suggest APS, % with 1,2 or 3 A-E grades, Value Added - so effectively the A Level measures but at the half way point. Trying to help a new sixth form free school set targets and some national data would be extremely useful. Thanks
  15. Hi, Having had in my 3 years here; 3 mock inspections, a section 8 (for new academies) and a full section 5 this May, I can honestly say that a data manager has a key role in the Ofsted process and I believe it to be a useful role too. I produced for each of these a 'data pack' which was developed for each occurance. This pack contained the evidence if you like to back up our judgement in the SEF which said we were outstanding. Data looking at previous results - whilts the Raise and other external documents will do this you might be inspected before December and if you've had a good set of results you want to show them just how good. Current tracking and projections for the coming exam year groups in a mini raise format data to show improvements being made in any areas identified by myself and SLT in the previous Raise as being development points Progress being made in all subjects, not just maths & english - although these are naturally the focus it gave all teaching staff the chance to understand progress and apply it to their thinking teaching staff have additional analysis - producing data to hihglight success in latest areas of key significance, i.e. pupil premium or facilitating subjects at KS5 for example Inspectors only have external data and your SEF they can access prior to an inspection and whilts they will undoubtedly have done their homework they wont have time to see it all and will make judgements on it, so you need evidence to back up your SEF claims and whats happneing now/end of this year to show imporvemnt, success, etc A tip from the inspection we had recently and from colleague who also had inspection - looking at data in terms of APS was a focus, we were asked to produce the APS at the end of each year from y6 to current year group in maths & english for all 5 year groups and the previous 2 year groups who left at the ned of key stage 4 So, a data manager I feel has a huge part to play, yes you wont necessarily see the inspectors but by producing packs, we gave them headlines but had lots at hand to answer pretty much any query that came our way during the 2 days. I was involved in the interview with an HMI on achievement and was able to see how useful the data I produced was in convincing him, and being the creator and understanding it was able to explain it to him and answer questions he had If I can be of any more help let me know
  16. Hi What essentially is done in Excel to create this data view - is it some kind of programming or is it all based on 'if' or 'lookup' formula? Thanks
  17. Hi, I'm looking for some MIS advice/input/suggestions for a colleague who is looking to install an MIS into a new school. Its a clean slate, nothing existing already so from that point of view hopefully quite exciting. I use Facility but have suggested they look to the new gen web based products. Being a Facility user I am aware of Progresso yet since its release all appears to have gone quiet and i'm not quite sure why? I was hoping to look at moving to Progresso here but now i'm not so sure so am also looking at alternatives. The other 2 that have stood out to me on first glance are Aspen & Scholar Pack. Does anyone use any of these/looked at hem in detail/seen in action or know anyone who uses them and has any feedback/ Would be great to have peoples thoughts.
  18. Thanks for all the responses/input, its most useful. Given me plenty to think about and how i can use progress based ks4 targets and somehow roll back to get a ks3 target, 5/6 sub levels seems to be about right for ks23-3 progress and fairly aspirational - adjust slightly for high ability students allowing them to aspire to the top levels.
  19. Hi all, Just wondering what others do in terms of looking at KS3 progress and target setting? we run a 2 year KS3, so students begin KS4 in year 9 I produce progress figures in terms of levels/sub-levels from starting point but what is the best way to demonstrate progress at KS3 as there isnt a set guide like there is for KS2-4 but obviously with teh new ofsted framework we have to demonstrate progress being made by all. Also with KS3 targets; does anyone else run a 2 year KS3 and as such have to set targets for 2 years rather than the traditional 3 Mark
  20. Any of you Data Managers on Twitter? another way to communicate/share data highs and lows @Mark_VdB82
  21. Hi fellow Data Managers, Just wondering if anyone on here has or knows someone who is doing/has completed the SSAT National Data Managers Award? I've been looking into it and just thought it would be good to get opionons of anyone who has started/completed it Regards Mark
  22. Hi Data Manager in secondary & sixth form academy Total pupil size about 800 MIS: Serco; Facility & ePortal. all data recorded in Facility - attendance, events, tracking, target and projected grades. use it to pull some reports out for curriculum leaders and teachers to provide assessment data. School reports for parents also generated in here. When I started here 2 and a bit years ago (was at another school for 2 eyars previous to that as a data manager) data was recorded in differnet places, its helped massively having everything under 1 roof. Whilst the system limits what i can do with it easily at least i can extract it out somehow and dont then have to merge it with other data sources. Import SATs, CATS and FFT data. Extract data out to create summaries for SLT, governors and Ofsted. All Excel based, make them look good and produce sheets to cover many different analysis streams and adapt/create with the changing times/focuses that come from above. Would love to know more about VBA in Excel to create things and save me time - would love to see some examples of what others do. Likewise if anyone uses any 3rd party software to do their analysis and how good it is, any limitations etc? Target setting was originally FFT-D +1, then looked at FFT top 5% and now looking at linking to levels of progress to target better than expected progress - would be good to get peoples htoughts too. Involved in timetbaling each year, its a fun task, very rewarding and means as data manager I can ensure all fits in terms of assessment, registers etc so that we dont et suproses when it comes to the first lot of report writing. Would echo what others have said in that it would help all data managers to know how the tiemtable works, can save time in the long run!
  23. great idea - could be a realyl valuable resource this group!
