In the log itself I see two lines "Found a new 480Mbps device "Mass Storage" on port7 "D: registered, type 0xc, size 3883 MB." Not much else in there relating to USB.

1) One is running Wyse ThinOS 8.2 and the other is running Windows 8.1 2) Each drive has been formatted as fat32 3) If I plug the USB Stick into the Wyse client and Look under Devices in System Tools, the Disk shows up as D:

Yep, Here is a copy of my wnos.ini. I am not sure if it is the ini file or not though. I have the same problem when using the RDP file provided by RD Web Access. I finally have a chance to build a VDI solution for our labs. We are wanting to go with a 100% Microsoft solution for cost reasons (our site license makes it considerably cheaper). I do have one issue though. I cannot get a single USB stick to show up on the virtual desktop. I have tried to get devices to redirect from both my desktop and a Dell Wyse 5010. Both my desktop and the Wyse client see the USB stick, but the VD is not picking it up for some reason. Is this even supported by Hyper-V and RDS? If so, how do I go about making it work? Current setup uses Server 2012 R2 for all roles and a Windows 10 , non persistent, collection. Current Roles: RD Web Access, RD Gateway, RD Licensing, RD Connection Broker, Hyper-V Virtualization Host, and VMM. These roles are installed on three separate servers for test purposes. I thought I knew how to do this, but I was obviously wrong. So if someone would be a hero and provide a how to, I will be ever grateful.

I had no idea they made a dongle! I'll have to look into that as well. Have you tried using it for digital signage? I have contacted our Dell rep, so I will see what they have to offer. Sounds like really good system you have set up. And thank you for the offer. You have been a big help. I am not worried about fail over either. The way I see it, nothing is saved to the systems, and no changes are made. So if a node goes down, the others and take over and build new desktops automatically. Any students working from an affected VM would lose their "work in progress" either way from what I understand. You have been a big help!

We looked into Shared desktops when we first started this project. But we found a few of our main teaching applications would not run on them even with help from the vendor. So we thought in the long run VDI would keep us as close to a normal user environment as possible.

I forgot all about vWorkspace. We are a Dell house after all, so that will be worth playing with. Chromebooks are also something we want to support with this system, as students seem to be buying them like mad. We expect to deploy around 300 Dell Wyse all in ones. These have been the best we have tested so far. Plus we want an additional 100 or so for students to access from tablets and Chromebooks. But this is a 4 year plan of replacing labs as the warranty runs out. I would love to do SSDs but they seem out of our price rang. Did you find a trick for lowering storage cost?

I work for a small college with multiple physical lab spaces. Every 3 to 4 years we purchase new desktops for the labs (based on when the warranty runs out). Do to the high cost of this and the cost and complexity of management we have been looking into virtualizing the labs and installing all in one zero clients. So far I have successfully built a test lab using VMware. It automatically builds a pool of VDs from a snapshot and allows me to schedule maintenance on them. From what I have figured out the cost of going with VMware including the zero clients and all, would be slightly higher than replacing all the systems every 4 years. With the cost dropping as time goes on. This does not take into account the amount we will save in licensing for lab management that we will no longer need (example, Deep Freeze). But, looking at our site licensing with Microsoft it would be cheaper to use Hyper-V. Only one problem, what took me only a week to get up and running with VMware, is taking me much longer with Hyper-V. At this point I think my mind has gotten tired of the research. So I am going to ask here for some help. I need to know is it even possible to get the same functionality from Hyper-V in this sense? Does anyone know of a tool along the same lines as View Administrator that can automate the process of building, refreshing, redistributing them across volumes, and keep them powered on at all times? Also if any of you have built such an environment with Hyper-V, what has your experience been? So far I am finding it to be much more frustrating. One more note, we also would like students to access the VDs from their tablets and other mobile devices. I have accomplished this with VMware and have not even touched the idea on Hyper-V. I would like to get a fully functional test environment set up for both before picking one over the other. The cost saving of Hyper-V would be wonderful and possibly worth the extra work if we can take advantage of it. Any help, advice, or feed back you may have would be highly appreciated.

What I gathered from them, the PrinterOn server will handle authentication and so on. Then dump the job into the Papercut print queues with pertinent information. Papercut then picks it up like any other job. I actually never knew about EveryonePrint. I will have to look at that further.

Will do! I still think they should add email support though at least as an option.

We have been using Papercut MF for a while now. It has been a great system. My only complaint is the mobile printing side. Their web print only supports Office Docs and PDFs. So if you want to print an image through the webpage you are out of luck. They also have an iOS app for printing, but no android app for printing atm. This is a major problem for us as students have been buying the cheaper nexus 7 as opposed to an iPad. You can, however, release print jobs from an android app. The iOS app also uses airprint, which just will not work on an enterprise network. Fortunately, there are other systems which work with papercut to manage mobile printing. If mobile printing will be an issue you may want to check into the cost of those systems as well vs buying a system that has mobile support such as emailing print jobs.

Hello everyone. I am new to the form, well sort of. I have been lurking and reading. But now it is time to ask a question. Have any of you used PrinterOn Education? If so, what has your experience been with both the software and the company. They say it will work along side of Papercut. It also seems to be a perfect solution to mobile printing, almost too perfect.... I am working with them to temporarily deploy their system on our network. The fact that they are willing to perform a full deployment for us to test makes me feel better. However, it would still be nice to know what others think of the system.
