OK i read that to update ADM files i need to install gpmsc on a XP machine and edit a GPO to update the adm. i did this on my machine and now i get the same problem as everyone else! does this give anyone any ideas as to whats going on?

How would i go about updating the adm files?

Unfortunately still no joy I have even given a staff account a student profile and still nothing, first page fails to load Any other ideas? i'm all out!

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that out now. The only reason we have got a few computers still using IE 6 is that we have still a few left to image, will have to be at half term now though. The majority are using IE7

Hi Michael, I have deleted the local profile in C:\documen... and double checked in user profiles in system properties and made sure they have gone but still nothing. Starting to get frustrated now ... I cant see a pattern to users that work and ones that don't. All students appear to work (not had any complaints but it would mean they had to try to work to find out!) and about half the staff regardless of what version of IE they run, what workstation they are on, department etc and as i say all have the same GPO's applied. G

Hi all, We are having a problem with random users and IE. For some of our staff IE works as it should but for others it wont display the first web page they try to load (can be any link to any site) but once its failed to connect a refresh makes it work a treat! Our proxy settings are set through GPO and the same policy for all staff so I have ruled that one out and I have tried giving a new profile to the staff with the problem, still nothing. Once the page is refreshed, open a second instance of IE or the user browses to another site IE starts behaving normally. I gave a staff account Admin rights for a test and went control panel -> Internet options (before trying any pages) and all the proxy details were correct but desktop website still failed to load. Once i clicked OK on Internet properties (having changed nothing) desktop wallpaper loaded and everything worked as it should. Any tips or ideas would be appreciated Cheers G

Hello everyone! I have been having a problem with one laptop running a .VBS script when a user logs off it. Hello Everyone Just a quick question here apologies if this topic has been covered previously! I have done some reading about excluding particular directories within students roaming profiles however I would like to exclude just one particular file and was unsure if this was possible? We need the users to be able to set a desktop background for our ECDL course so i cant remove that option via GPO but this means students are setting backgrounds everywhere. I have noticed that it saves the picture in application data called "Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp" so would GPO except this as a acceptable path "Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp" Or if i just told it not to replicate the internet Explorer folder would this cause any problems? Any help would be appreciated regards G

WEIRD........

We have made use of many old computers by simply creating a powerful sever (i.e two dual core chips 4Gig ram etc) and run Windows fundamentals for legacy PC's. With our current licensing plan we can change to Windows fundamentals with no extra cos (as long as the PC's have OEM OS) The computers then run a autologon script to login with a limited account that only gives them a icon on the desktop (nothing in the start menu etc) to Remote desktop to the terminal server. These computers have been running like this for a few years now and we have added Igels to the network that also run off these terminal servers very cheeply (i think they were around £200 each)

We have two backup servers both running DPM 2007 with 4 x 150Gig Sata HDD's 4 x 380 Gig Sata Drives 1x 40 Gig System disk 1x 40 Gig database disk and backup to tape using a HP Storageworks 1/8 Autoloader with LTO tapes which we keep for 4 weeks

We have two Keys, one that does Server 2003 and a different one for 2003 R2. I have mistakenly used the 2003 key when doing a 2003 R2 install and it accepted the key but in the system properties it only showed as Windows Server 2003 not R2. As I remember I even ran the second CD for R2 and entered our R2 key in at this stage and it still didn't change the value in system properties. So yes, I think you will need a new license for it to be 2003 R2 (newbie here as far as licensing goes though, I might very well be wrong!!)

We have recently changed away from SurfControl web and email filter to Bloxx and Sophos. The Sophos 1U unit to be honest I have had little to do with but its neat and tidy and its web interface makes it quick and simple to release mail and block/allow email addys etc Bloxx I have had more to do with and I must say I am very impressed with. While using SurfControl Web Filter we had to monitor students strictly to simply catch them on the proxy sites. Bloxx however detects these sites and automatically blocks them after giving each page a score. Eventhough Bloxx is still in the testing stage and is only deployed on a select few machines we are very pleased with it especially its proxy detection and forcing that all important safe search on google yahoo etc... The two 1u rackmouted kits have replaced 1 ISA server, 1 surfcontrol server and ainti spam mailserver. Anyway basically big thumbs up for Bloxx over SurfControl but I will keep you all posted as we test Bloxx and Sophos filters further.....watch this space ....
