Let me rephrase a bit.. Passwords are currently being SYNC'd from AD - > Google.. That is whenever someone changes their active directory password on a windows machine it changes it to google as well.. But this is a one way transfer.. Next year we wont have many windows machines in this school for them to be changing passwords on. So I was thinking some type of self service web password change, or somehow they can change their password on a chromebook.

Hi, We currently have all of our users in active directory. One of our schools will have mostly chromebooks next year. We are looking into how to deal with password changes with minimal windows machines on premise. Generally we reset every students password at the beginning of the year and the first time they log in it prompts them to change it. This doesn't happen with the chromebook using AD. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Bottom line.. this is not sustainable and MS needs to change their policy before all schools switch to Google

As far as I know.. The only way to deploy applications to all users is during imaging using DISM commands. SCCM can deploy store apps to individual users but you need to re-certify the applications and deploy the certificates. MS recommends students creating windows store accounts. With windows 8.1 they can have applications on up to 81 devices per user. Problem comes in with kids under 13 who need a credit card to register. We let teachers create their own Microsoft accounts on school owned devices. You can control which store applications are allowed through group policy.

Currently we have an issue where a class of 25 laptops attempts to use google docs in class. A handful of them 4-8 will either get page cannot be displayed or a message about google drive app failing to load. It's always random which computers choose to misbehave. Sometimes it will just start working again after a few minutes. When this happens, those computers can still access other websites but cannot ping google. Any troubleshooting tips appreciated. Hi - I'mn currently having an issue when a full classroom logs into Google drive - sometimes up to 1/2 of the students get "page cannot be displayed" or "Google drive app is unavailable" Has anyone else experienced this?

Fantastic news!!! (sarcasm..) Khan Academy hasn't replied to any of my emails to date about their Appx files. even better.. drum roll please... Microsoft has denied our request for the one note appx. They say we must obtain it through the windows store!! unbelievable.

My problem was related to Windows 8 and Proxy Servers. Smothwall was blocking skydrive.

Apparently moving to 1:1 here in the US makes it so we must add licensing for students...

Please tell me if I'm wrong.. I hope I am. Under current enterprise agreement we are paying $50/ faculty for all software upgrades. Students can access MS Office on nearly 3000 laptops around the district. We are expanding the number of laptops for students, and starting a 1:1 next year. With 365 pricing at 2.50 / student and 4.50 for faculty. How can we make this huge jump? At 780 faculty x $50 = $39,000/ Year Say we only pay for our 6th-12th grade: 780 Faculty @ $4.5/month = $3510 X 12 Months = $42,120 2100 students @ 2.5/month = $5250 X 10 Months = $52,500 So to keep Microsoft when we move to 1:1 it will double our licensing agreement? Even though no extra faculty will be getting access to MS Office? Is there any cheaper way to do this?

Since we need the .appx file from developers to deploy Windows 8 Store Apps through SCCM.. I thought it would be a good idea to start a list of Software Developers who supply their files to K-12 with their contact Info.. Any takers?

So I got Windows 8 Store apps to appear in SCCM's Software Catalog (web version) Clicking install makes it happen, and I'm sure I can set up the students accounts to SYNC apps on laptops. But they will still need to use a Microsoft account that they create, and will still beable to buy other apps off-premise. My fear is when they come to school every app will download whenever they log into a new computer. I know I can sue applocker to control what they use, but I'm worried about bandwith issues when students log in and start installing apps.

This is something that NEEEDS to be addressed for K-12 Education.. We are setting up 300 Lenovo Twists come September. It would be a shame if students could only use LEGACY APPLICATIONS

Is there any free (cheap) solution for this?
