We went down this route a couple of years ago and decided it was easer with less hassle to get them broadband internet access and then use logmein to connect to a dedicated computer terminal in the main building.

I have bought myself a storage server with ISCSI software and now trying to get it configured and working, without knowing a great deal about it. Ok, I have at last got the ISCSI initiator (on my Windows 2000 machine ) to connect to the target on the storage server (2008), logged onto the target, made it a persistant target, then bound the volume. I then opened Computer Management and went through the wizard which, if I can remember correctly, initialised the new disk. I then could see it as unallocated and online. I then extended the volume of one of my partitions (G:\) by selecting from the newly found disk. So far, so good, it all worked wonderfully. I then thought a reboot of both servers would test the system and now it all goes horribly wrong! After the reboot the new disk volume went offline, despite the iscsi initiator software all indicating that it was connected and the iscsi target software showing that all was up and working. I reactivated the volume and it now states it is healthy and online but when I check out the G drive partition, (whose layout is now described as spanned) I get the error message: "G:\ The system cannot find the device specified". The G drive now has disappeared from My Computer. Can anyone please help with this and if not, at the very least help me to revert back to a 'simple' layout which I should then be able to format and use my backup to restore all my folders/files. I would be most grateful for any help with this. Sort of serves me right for trying to do this on my own! extended volu.bmp

Thanks for your replies. theriver - local users are fine it is only the domain user. ChrisH- I can 'see' explorer through task manager but it wont let me run it - no authority or permissions apparently!

I've just set up a Windows Storage Server, added it to the domain, and configured shares for domain users to access. Users are able to access the shares with no problems, but the problem I have is that no user except the domain and local administrator can log into the server. It just hangs and the desktop is blank with no start button. The reason i was trying to login with another user was because I was trying to set up Backup Exec on it and having authentication problems so wanted to see if the backupexec user could access the server. I then tried with other domain users but all have the same, no desktop when trying to log in. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Thanks for all your suggestions. After reinstalling all software, all drivers, stop/starting various services and still not having any luck, it will print from Word or Excel only when printing direct to the printer ie not spooling. So got a workaround - not ideal but at least we are now able to print. Thanks again.

Thanks Michael. Will try connecting to another printer and if necessary reinstall MS Office. I'm away for a few days so it may be a day or two before I return here to the forum...but thanks for taking the trouble to reply to my query. Regards Penny

Hi Michael Thanks for the response. Yes, it can print from other programs though I haven't tested pdf files, it can print her emails and pages from the internet. Just the problem with word and excel. Regards Penny

An HP Deskjet 720C is connected to a new Dell Vostro laptop (XP pro) using a parallel lead with USB adapter. The laptop can print a test page quite happily to the printer but nothing from Word or Excel 2003. Strangely it worked last week OK but suddenly stopped working. Have re-installed the USB adapter drivers Uninstalled and reinstalled printer (unable to get updated drivers as all links state the drivers within XP.) checked printer configuration in Word/Excel. Has anyone got any other ideas? All gratefully received.
