  4. Just to complete this thread, this has now happened on three different servers at completly different locations, never had any do it to me in over 10 years. Two of the servers have very similar hardware but the other is quite different. We suspected it might be an issue with the Storage controllers drivers or BIOS firmware as they we're out of date but we had to get them back online so couldn't investigate further, in the end we had to do a restore which was painful but succesful. Lesson learnt, always update your drivers and firmware.
  5. Thanks Katy, I will give this a go first chance I get. Will this replace the existing driver and then hopefully resolve my issues?
  6. Sadly not mavhc, it must be something with a recent windows update but I see to be on the only one suffering it from an extensive google. Tried this but no joy https://richardjgreen.net/inaccessible-boot-device-windows-server-2012-r2-kb2919355/ I think it has to be driver issue but can I update drivers from a cmd prompt do you know?
  7. Hi Mavhc Thanks so much for your response. I think this might be the problem the drivers and firmware haven't been updated on these servers for some time I believe. The disks are intact and I can access the RAID config on boot and all looks fine. I can access the data on the disk via a CMD prompt in the recovery tools and everything is intact. Windows starts to boot but then just before it starts configuring devices I get inaccessble boot device. Does this suggest the storage controller do you think? Thank you
  8. Hi all I'm hoping you can all help me with a major issue we are having. We have had two server 2012 R2 servers and one 2008 R2 server give us the dreaded inaccesible boot device (0x7b) BSOD. One of them we no longer needed (2008 server) so was no loss but the other two I couldn't get going again and time was of the essence so I had to do a disisater recovery on them which was succesful but painful to say the least and caused a significant amount of downtime for the schools. All three of the servers are physical and they all have a RAID 5 configuration using LSI MegaRAID so I wonder if there is a link here. All of them appear to have done this following a reboot and from what we can gather after installing some recent Windows Updates. Things I have tried are: Check the BIOS hadn't reset Rolled back windows updates I have tried a couple of other things in the panic of trying to sort it but in the mayhem I cannot remember what they we're exactly but I am certain we cannot be the only ones to experience this. Has anyone else experienced this and know how to fix it? We are nervous that it will happen again and are reluctant to install any windows updates until we can find out a fix? Which is obviously something we cannot continue as we need to be able to patch our servers. Many thanks
  9. Hi all Sorry if this has been asked before but I'm after some advice on a tricky MAT cloud setup that I hope my fellow edugeeks can help me with. I support half of the schools in a MAT made up of primary schools and some of them are on Office 365 and utilising One Drive while other schools use G-Suite so are using Google Drive, to further complicate matters to collaborate between schools they are using a shared Dropbox account but this constantly keeps filling up to its capacity and they don't want to pay to increase this given One Drive and Google Drive are free. I am also personally concerned about them using Dropbox for GDPR reasons. I have suggested creating a new domain/cloud solution for the entire MAT but I don't think they will go for that as the schools want to stick with their current cloud solution and I'm sure they would prefer not to have two accounts they have to check. I thought about Dropbox for Education but it seems crazy to pay for a solution when there are free options out there. One of the heads has asked me for ideas to overcome the problem with Dropbox and the best way to move forward for the entire MAT. Any suggestions or what other MATs have done would be much appreciated. I've come across Flow in O365 but I dont know much about it.

  11. All fixed, I simply recreated the virtual switch on the host. Not to sure how or why that worked but I knew it was a communication issue as dsdiag looked good when I ran it and on the server everything looked healthy in the logs and general networking tests. Hope this helps you Chockster and certainly one to remember.
  12. Thanks Chockster, we have mostly got 1703 domain clients (looking to update soon) but my laptop is 1803 and I have the same issue. Like you say it has just 'popped up', currently this is the only site currently I have seen this issue (touch wood).
  13. Hi all A primary school I support reported issues with users logging in this morning. I came in and to my surprise the clients are getting an IP address but are not registering in DNS. I'm getting 8015 errors on my clients: "The system failed to register host (A or AAAA) resource records (RRs) for network adapter with settings" I've ran DCDiag on the server and picked up that there was no credentials for dynamic DNS registration so I configured that but still no joy. As you can imagine this is causing several headaches as users cannot login and some of them where I have logged in locally I am having to reconfigure their DNS settings to the schools forwarder. To confirm DHCP appears to be fine and ping tests are succesful so I dont believe its network. I've also noticed Internet has stopped working on the server. There is obviously something very wrong here with DNS but I cannot get to the bottom of it especially as no changes have been made to the network/server as far as I am aware. I would really appreciate any help on this.
  14. Just testing 1803 but so far so good and domain logins times seem a lot faster (touch wood)
  15. Thanks for the responses, they still own the domain I'm sure.
  16. I've read that as well but was hoping it might be possible given they have proof of purchase and its the secondary schools fault for setting it up this way. As for the content I want to get their domain and move it into their own G-Suite tenancy with all their data but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing this hence why I think I will have to do a migration. If that is the case then it will be Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Drive. I appreciate there is built in tools but I'm not sure how helpful the secondary school will be. Has anyone used this before https://gsuite.google.com/marketplace/app/syscloud_g_suite_domain_migration/425929859032 Thanks
  17. I have just started to support a primary school that has their G-Suite domain setup by the local secondary school but they want to move away from them supporting it and manage it themselves. The secondary school manage several domains under the one G-Suite tenancy as well as their own and refuse to give me administrator access which I can understand so the only way I can see to do this is create a new G-Suite tenancy/domain and start to move data across via google Takeout on each of the accounts? Does anyone know of an easier way? The Chromebook licenses are also registered under the secondary school so I'm going to have to try and move them somehow if that's possible, the school does have proof of purchase. Any help would be much appreciated.
  18. Thanks all for your comments, the GPO is working and maybe I need to start a new thread but has does anyone know how to auto allow Flash in Microsoft Edge. I've got the ADMX templates installed for my version of Windows 10 but I cannot see any setting to auto allow Flash? Its a lot easier for our users to enable it compared to Flash in Chrome so I'm not too worried.
  19. Tried your GPO setting Arthur but it didn't work, I have the latest ADMX templates and Chrome version. However I tested the same policy setting that worked yesterday at a different school where I set the setting "Allow the Flash plugin on these sites" to Enable and enter in http://* and https://* and this has worked again. Not happy about relaxing the security but when you've got 30 5 year olds all trying to open a website that uses Flash its tricky. Looking forward to the days without Flash but until companies start changing their content we've got to have it enabled
  20. Thanks Arthur I will give that a try
  21. The PPAPI didn't work for us but the suggestion on this thread by Ant did: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/internet-related-filtering-firewall/190941-chrome-no-longer-playing-flash.html#post1632039
  22. Thanks Ant, that worked like a charm. I appreciate the security risk but your absolutely right on the practical side of things for Primary schools, lets just hope websites start moving to HTML 5 as soon as they can.
  23. Thanks DJ, currently that's greyed out as its configured via GPO. Would it better do disable the GPO policy then so users can manage this themselves given that this setting no longer works anyway?
  24. Thanks Steven, that's fine locally but I would like to have this configured via GPO to save our users having to do it themselves. It was working fine until recently, I can only think Google Chrome has updated itself and stopped this from working?
  25. We are also experiencing this only recently after enabling Flash to play by default via GPO, would love to find a fix for this as its causing disruption.
