There are a lot of different cloud-based productivity suites that aren't very well geared towards managed printing. At this stage we're trying to track what is actually going to be viable to invest engineering resources in the long term, so your feedback is quite useful there. We're currently not looking at going down the browser plugin route, due to the browser support requirements, etc.

If you have a support ticket ID (something like #BMN-123-456-789) and you'd like me to take a look, please let me know here. Without knowing specifics, I'd recommend upgrading to the latest version (v13.0), as continual improvements are made to the code that handles grayscale conversions as I noted in a previous post.

At this stage, the archived jobs only appear in the job log (i.e. jobs that have already been released from a PaperCut-managed queue to a device). However, that's definitely the kind of feedback I'm collecting. We certainly have ideas as to where this feature can go, but taking it a step at a time and listening to customers (and the market in general) has generally been our strategy.

If you just give your customers PaperCut - Print management software used by 50k organizations to control and quota printing, the free 40 day trial is prominently displayed on the front page in a couple of places. This then leads to PaperCut for Education - Print control software software for schools, colleges and Universities. (other industries selectable at the top), and the actual downloads are available subsequently at this location: Download - PaperCut NG - PaperCut

Just to follow-up on the security discussion, I can confirm that Print Archiving is off by default, that only the "admin" user has access to view the data when the feature is first turned on (you must explicitly add the admin right to each administrative user/group), and you can disable archiving on an individual user or printer basis. If there are any security concerns with the implementation in 13.0, please contact us at [email protected] ASAP.

Good eye; it's one of the many potential integration projects we've got. At this point the critical mass isn't quite there to justify it in comparison to something like Print Archiving, but adding functionality to authenticate and retrieve GCP jobs, then insert them into already PaperCut-managed queues would be a great major feature.

That's certainly a complex one just due to the surprisingly vast variation in colour rendering approaches between models and[b/] manufacturers, but never say never! We do keep a track of all interesting requests, how many customers have requested it, the size and type of those organisations, etc. Hopefully Print Archiving is a good first step at least to help you deal with the inappropriate usage. It's something that's possible (and as an ex-sys admin I can totally understand the reasons behind the request), but there are a couple of reasons why we haven't gone down that path. You've probably seen them in our documentation and knowledge base, but they boil down to a significant engineering commitment to duplicate Apple's Airprint stack and then rebuild it as they change things (as has already happened since Airprint's release). The desire to avoid annoying Cupertino is also somewhere in the mix. Given the small hardware investment of a Mac Mini has been taken up by a large number of customers specifically to support iPad printing, we're not looking to go down the more involved path at this stage.

Hah, I was mainly referring to Print Archiving, however I will see what I can do about getting support added for those file formats. Thanks for the link, I'll have a look at that and make sure it'll do what we need to offer the same WebPrint functionality.

Thanks for the shout out, we're pretty proud of it. I'm keen to see the specific scenarios that sys admins apply this functionality to, and what enhancements everyone thinks of, so I'll keep an eye on any and all comments here.

If you're having any issues with grayscale conversions (or anything else related to page analysis and modifying jobs), please drop us a line at [email protected] detailing the issue, including brand/model of device, driver version (PCL5/6, PS), etc. There are literally thousands of different combinations of PDL flags that can be used by a driver to set things like duplex, so we're always improving our support in those areas. Check out the Printer Compatibility Improvements section in our release notes (Release History - PaperCut) to see the number of changes we make per release. We may ask you to generate some spool files for us for analysis, but we can usually turn around a patch in a week for you to test out and then it's bundled into the core software for future releases.

PaperCut - Remove Negative

It's always good to see more feedback, but unfortunately this forum is not really the best avenue for supporting feature requests; I'd recommend using the Vote for a Feature survey link from within your PaperCut admin interface, and/or sending an e-mail through to [email protected]. The kind of reasoning and example you provided will probably help the case for the functionality change and assist the developers with nailing it when it gets assigned to active development. -

No problem. It's likely that the issue you're seeing there is model-specific, so if you are able to perform some additional testing, raising a ticket with the support team would be the best way to get it working for you. -

Clareq; did you have any further luck (or hassles) with this particular issue? If you are still experiencing the strange behaviour as above, I'd recommend contacting [email protected], or call the relevant number listed here: Contact Us - PaperCut You can link back to this thread for reference, but a quick summary of all the information you have provided in this thread would be of assistance as a starting point for the support tech who responds to your call or e-mail. -

glennda; Thanks for the welcome. There are a few of us who monitor edugeek, but usually don't post unless we spot a thread where our contribution will bring benefit to the discussion. enjay; Thanks for the feedback, it's quite valuable to our development process as you can imagine. I look forward to seeing some of your feature requests when you get your teeth into PaperCut MF. -
PaperCut - Remove Negative

A lot of PaperCut's cost accounting functions are built around amounts being charged to an account, and as such there is no support for positive charges. If you are starting from a zero balance and users are confused that they have a negative balance as they continue to print, perhaps you can pre-allocate funds? Alternatively, it may be possible for us (PaperCut Software) to cosmetically remove the "-" sign from user balances as an option in the future. Part of the decision making process regarding which features/enhancements we work on depends on user demand, so please do use the Vote For A Feature link available in the About tab of your PaperCut administration console.
