  1. Hi all, We bought a Wii a few weeks ago to use on the projector in the hall. I was under the impression that the yellow red and white cables could just plug in and it would work! i was wrong. It says no signal and will then go a bit fuzzy then say no signal again. Any idea why? Do i need another part? Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi, Has anyone got episodes 5 and 6 of Turn back time: the family? Thanks Jay
  3. I have got an old netgear switch actually. Would the splitters not have any effect on the computers? (sorry ive never used them before)
  4. Hi Everyone, Firstly the two office computers have a shared USB printer which is continuelly going offline. Its attached directly to one computer which always works then the other one will work for a few days then go offline. Ive tried everything i can think of but its still happening. Has anyone got any advice with sharing printers like this on a network? Would the best thing be to buy a wireless print server? (No nework connections nearby and cant really afford to get any) TP Link 54Mbps Pocked Sized Wireless Print Server (TL-WPS510U) - www.misco.co.uk One like that? Second problem is the printers deployed via group policy. They keep asking for drivers being updated which needs admin rights. I have seen one fix for this but it involved server 2008 R2 and we are running 2003. Thanks in advance for any replies.
  5. 2012 - I've only just set it up over the past few days so i may have missed something. I shouldnt have though i followed a book i was recommended to read from someone on here. Everything worked fine apart from those 2 things. Once i hit ok on the dll error everything seems to work fine. I just dont like the fact it came up. Thanks again
  6. "Unable to edit the unattend.xml for this OS because no catalog could be located or genterated" I just tried it. I will do some more googling later havent typed this one in yet. Thanks for the response.
  7. Hi Everyone. So ive created my image, captured it and deployed it to a computer. All was working well untill the desktop started to load. i got an error of: There was a problem starting igfxdev.dll I clicked okay and everything loaded and seems to be working fine. But obviously this shouldnt have happend so i was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why. A quick search on google didnt really bring anything up. Also just another quick one. When i deployed the image the monitor displayed at the wrong resolution. I dont really want to have to go round every computer and change the resolution. It has installed the right graphics card driver. Thanks for any responses.
  8. Ive just bought the book, thanks for pointing it out. Hopefully it will help alot!
  9. When the computer is imaging it does so fine until the final log on. It will sit there for about 5 minutes with nothing but a blue screen then say it cant connect to the deployment share? Ive checked passwords ect and all seem fine? Any ideas? Thanks
  10. Its says in the rules the capture screen isnt hid. But i have set up a new deployment share and its now working fine. I thought it would make things confussing have 2 shares but it doesnt. Thanks
  11. Now that ive put all the rules in the Sysprep and capture task sequence doesnt run. Is there a way of doing this so i dont have to keep changing rules all the time? Thanks everyone
  12. Sorry to be a pain. All the scrpt worked thanks. Apart from selecting keyboard as english uk. One more question - The local administrator account? Can i set the password for it? I cant seem to log on? Thanks
  13. Thanks - I might give this a go now on my virtual machines. Im expected to do a role out of Windows 7 to 90 computers next Monday using this. I think ill have to make 4 images aswell. All on something i have practically no experience in! Do they have to be in a certain order? Also i just booted in PE and its set the keyboard as US-English and wont let me change it. The locale settings still show up i just cant edit it? is that whats suppose to happen? Thanks
  14. That would be very helpfull thankyou. I havent put any of this info in - I didnt know you could. Where do i write this? Also where do i write the part about automatically joining it to the domain? Sorry ive never really used it before! Thanks for your help.
  15. Ah okay - I misunderstood what you said. I'll have a look at that on Monday. At the other school I work at a script checks if Sophos is installed when the computer boots (every time ) then installs it if it isn't. Your way sounds easier! That hide shell thing looks good aswell. It still doesn't log you off the administrator account though - but that don't matter much. Thanks
  16. They sound so reliable! or not. It was strange because they still looked like they were talking to each other (Lights flashing as they should) but they just wasnt working.
  17. Thanks - I will try this on Monday! I thought you couldn't put an Sophos in an image?? And the login thig is annoying because it means I can't just leave it to do it like In can at the other school - but I supose that's the difference between ZTI and LTI. Thanks for your help.
  18. Yes i did get 2 new ones. That is the plan for the future. Hopefully the very near future when i install the new switches over the summer. The new converters i got were only £20 each as a temporary measure to get it back on. Thanks
  19. Hi Everyone, I have recently taken over at a primary school and have decided to set up MDT 2012 and use WDS to PXE boot ect... Ive never used it before so tried it on a test network - was suprised by how easy it was to set up and create an image, There was just a few annoying things: 1. The windows PE part keeps asking for regional settings - can i stop it from doing this? 2. At what part do i join the PC to the domain? (I did it in Windows PE when deploying the image - Is the the best way?) 3. When the image deployed it logged in - i just want it to come up with the login page rather than completly log in? 4. do i put ALL the software in the image? (Apart from AV) We use SCCM at the secondary school i work at so ive got use to using that - but i didnt set it up so i was unsure on these few things. Apart from that i managed to create and deploy with no errors. Thanks for any replys.
  20. It was one of the media converters by the way! Thanks for everyones help.
  21. Yeah its looking likely to be the fibre. whole network went agian today apart from the 2 switches that are not connected via the fibre. I didnt have time to do alot of testing today but im planning on connecting all 4 switches together not through the fibre and seeing if it works. If we get back up and running then im assuming its the fibre. I also want to test if 2 computers can communicate on the switches that arnt connecting the the network (if that makes sense) to rule out problems with the switches. Working at 2 schools means i dont have alot of time when something like this goes wrong. I cant leave one school to go to the other as im on 2 seperate contracts for each. Meaning it just has to wait which isnt great.
  22. No it wasnt connected before. All i did today was unplug link 1 and plug in the copper connection to switch 1 and the whole network went back to normal. I agree with what you say. The person taking care of the network before me didnt document anything or keep any records of anything. When i started all they passed on to me was the administrator password. None of the teachers laptops or office computers are actually on the domain there just stand alone computers. Most of the network is on the way out. i have 3 new managed switches to replace 3 of the old netgear ones. a whole new set of desktops and laptops and liceses for Windows 7. (Currently on XP). So as of the summer holidays most of it will be started from scratch anyway. (and everyone will be on the domain!) Thanks for all your help.
  23. Quick update - Ive found a temporary fix but i dont understand what ive done to fix the WHOLE network (I just thought it would fix the office computers) As you can see. I used the old copper connection to try and get the 2 office computers working and unconnected link 1 - thinking this would only get the office working along with the IT suite. But everything worked after disconnecting link 1 and connecting the old copper link. So from what i can work out the fibre is working. Could a dodgey cable on link 1 have caused this the whole network to stop - apart from the computers connected via switch 1? or do you think ive somehow disconnected a loop by taking out link 1? if i have i have no idea what loop - it must have something to do with old wireing. (all the yellow and red lines are parts of the network not working yesterday - the green ones were working) Thanks again for all your help.
  24. Thanks - i will try this also. I do have a spare switch which could replace a faulty one. i have no idea what dip switches are but there not in an open area so i hope nobody has done anything to them! ill look into that aswell!
  25. I think its fibre! Its defernatly the cable connecting both together. It looks like an ST connector on one end. I thought it was strange though. Yesterday when i left it everything was fine, this morning when they got there nothing worked but the building with cab 1 in. I was just trying to think of what could have happend overnight to cause this. Its not a complete drop in connection because you can still connect just very very very very slowly!
