I thought I'd pop a little something on here about a company I have used for a couple of years for all of my AV, Digital Signage, Datacabling and Fibre optic stuff. I have been talking to a local company who do all of our Projector installs for us, they also do digital signage solutions. They pointed me at a bit of software called Ezevue which is basically a server package which will allow you to broadcast out to different signage outputs on your LAN, costs about £695 for the software and five licences which I don't think is too bad. That's a good point, I've had a nosey at it and it's looking really good, bit worried about an on-line version though as it's very 'internet connection' dependant. Would be better on the local system.

My plan seems to have worked, after two hours of cross referencing DHCP and DNS to delete incorrect entries everything now appears to be running without error, replication is working well across the four DC's. I'm still not happy with the second DNS server as the zones listed are not identical to the First DNS server, I uninstalled and reinstalled DNS but it just recollated the zones it had before. Should I delete the DNS server entries from the registry before reinstalling DNS?

Hmm, thanks for the info and suggestion. However to do this I would have to possibly remove and rejoin all 600+ machines from the network as most are now experiencing this error. During term time this is not going to be possible as there is only myself and one technician unless opf course we do a night shift! I have continued to investigate this and I have noticed anomalies within DNS on both DNS servers. We appear to have multiple computers with the same IP addresses listed in both the forward and reverse lookup zones so I assume the problem is getting worse. DCDiag and Netdiag both show no errors when run on the servers. I am considering stopping one of the DNS servers, removing the incorrect entries by cross referencing with DHCP and reloading on the remaining DNS server, restarting the second DNS server and copying the reconfigured zone across. Any thoughts?

We recently had a power cut which shut down the entire campus, all servers were powered down via UPS. When the power was restored I restarted the DC's and everything appears to be working fine BUT I am getting lots of the following error messages on my PDC. The kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server SCI-ICT-14$. The target name used was cifs/GRAPHICS8A.cowplain.hants.sch.uk. This indicates that the password used to encrypt the kerberos service ticket is different than that on the target server. Commonly, this is due to identically named machine accounts in the target realm (COWPLAIN.HANTS.SCH.UK), and the client realm. Please contact your system administrator. As I said above everything seems to be working fine on the network but I don't like having all of these error messages. Any ideas?

Point taken Plexer, the thought of students having remote access makes me twitch in unnatural ways!

Wow, thanks for the replies. We've tried the VLE route and it's not working, teachers don't like it as they say it's complcated to maintain?? We want to give the students access to applications such as MS office and shared data stored on the network, this would we feel do away with the need for a 'VLE'. I think the whole VLE thing is getting a bit elitist really and I have tried to point this out at every meeting I've attended. We conducted a survey and 17% of our students don't even have a pc at home! Looks like the Citrix route for me........ Thanks

I have asked by the leadership team to enable students to remotely access their work from home. I am looking at using a terminal server so that I can have complete control over it but I have investigated Ranger outpost etc. Does anybody have any advise or experiences they could share with me on how they did it and with what. Thanks in anticipation............

We currently have fourteen IT suites on site and had the problem of mice being stolen and keyboards being damaged, we approached this in two ways. Firstly as some of the IT suites are 'department' rooms ie maths, english etc, we sell the specific departments their own supply of mice, KB etc and any malicious damage caused to the computers is solely down to the departments to sort out, we dont mind carrying out the repairs BUT we do not pay for the parts! Secondly we have installed a minimum of two CCTV cameras in each suite, once you catch a couple of the little scrotes in the act and send a bill home to their parents word soon spreads that it's not worth the hassle! It has also proven to be able to improve classroom behaviour due to the SMT being able to monitor the cameras from any workstation with the client software on. CCTV is not expensive when you compare it to the cost of replacing all of the damaged equipment over a twelve month period, I install it, configure and monitor it. I even do the external cameras now! All of the cameras are fixed and cabled directly back to my office using power over cat5e which makes life very simple, one cable, one camera two rj45 plugs..... Thanks for the suggestions, I have given a report to the schools leadership team regarding this matter and suggested the disabling of pen drives, not sure they will be too keen on that though I've just been told by a colleague that there is a program available that will take care of this, I'll keep you all informed if I find out what it is.

Hi I've tried the solution mentioned above by adding some 'new path rules' but they do not seem to be working as the little blighters are still able to run doom and quake from their pen drives. I looked at the other options available but unfortunately we use so much software it would take forever to populate the list of allowed software. Any further assistance on this problem would be much appreciated.
