It has been a while, but in the past I used Altiris RIP images to install software. Basically, you install Office on a clean system and it turns that into a single .exe which you can deploy silently to a PC however you want. Naturally, you can do this on a system with 2007 already present and it will build an executed to do upgrading.

Make sure that you're using a source disk that matches the hardware ... x64 or x32bit. Also you generally need 512 RAM for these type things. Also have you taken a look at the Win7PE_SE project? It is a version of Windows 7 that boots and you can really customize it.

I'm super curios to see, and we really won't know till shipping day, how much of a first class citizen the desktop will be. They need to stay committed because most of us who program for these devices use a desktop!

If you're serious about this you need something like the Bluetooth Proximity Lock Utility which will do this automatically when you leave the workstation.

Another way, which I've found the be the easiest, is to use the Outlook Profiler tool. It's not free but saved my bacon when I had to make some crazy changes across different versions of Outlook. Also have roaming profiles gotten better? Seems there is always a profile getting trashed and causing weird errors.
