  1. Hi - hopefully someone can advise on what I think may be an internal DNS issue. I have set up Office 365 with ADFS 2.0, SSO and Active Directory Sync. Since associated our domain name with Office 365 we can no longer access our website internally in school. The site can be viewed outside our LAN. Our website name is the same as the domain name that I registered and verified with Office 365. We have another issue at the moment that I am also trying to sort out, I don't think it is linked, but it may be worth mentioning it in case it helps with diagnosis: We are unable to connect an Outlook client to the Microsoft Online Exchange servers. We are receiving an authentication error when trying to auto-connect. This is from different PCs inside school and outside of school. I was wondering if there has to be a trust set up internally on our domain to trust the domain that we have registered with Office 365? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Ed
  2. Hi - hopefully someone can advise me on a problem that I have came across while implementing Office 365 SSO and Active Directory Synchronisation. The set up went well until came to the point of installing and running DirSync.exe from the admin portal. Basically, I installed the program and ran it. Once complete there was an error in the process and now when I try to log in to the management portal and enter the admin username I am being redirected to a "page not found". I don't even get the chance to enter the password because as soon as the username is entered the redirection starts, with the message: "Redirecting: We are taking you to your organisation sign in page" It would be good to get some advice on how to go about resolving this issue. Kindest Regards Ed
  3. Cheers for that Sted, but no joy I'm afraid. The only thing that I think it could be is that the old original WDS server is still up and running on the domain. The server is 2003 R2 All WDS and Ghost services are stripped off the box. Although these services are no longer installed I was thinking that the domain/AD is still addressing WDS as legacy mode or something like that. The only thing is I cannot decomisssion the server fully until the last day of term. I now thinking of preparing a plan B incase WDS still does not start when I decommision the old server. I am looking at FOG.
  4. 5. hi - no other services are running on the server. It is a clean install 2008 R2 will all updates. Only WDS role is installed on the server. Since my last post I have tried uninstalling the WDS role, took the server off the domain, changed the server name, added the server back onto the domain and added the WDS role back on. Still the same errors in the event log. I have tried adding a different user account into the WDS Services option in the Services mmc. The user account that I added was a member of domain admins, and enterprise admins. When I tried to start the service with this account i got the error: "A privilage that the service requires to function properly does not exist in the service account configuration. You may use the services microsoft management console snap in and the local security settings mmc (secpol.msc) to view the service configuration and account configuration". I really appreciate your reply as I really need to get this moving. cheers Ed
  6. Hi all, hopefully someone can advise me on a 2008 R2 WDS problem that I am having. I am in the process of decommissioning an old 2003 R2 server that ran WDS and Ghost. I have uninstalled the WDS role, Ghost and the old RemoteInstall folder. The 2003 R2 server is still on the domain. I have installed a new server and I have installed the WDS role. However, I cannot get the WDS services to start. I am recieving the following error in the final stage of the WDS Server configuration in the WDS console: "The Service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" When I check the event viewer the folling errors are present with regards to WDS: "An error occurred while trying to start the Windows Deployment Services Server". - Event ID 257 "An error occurred while trying to initialize provider WdsImgSrv from C:\Windows\System32\WdsImgSrv.dll Windows Deployment Server will be shut down". - Event ID 513 "An error occurred while trying to initialize the Windows Deployment Services Image Server". - Event ID 258 "An error occurred while refreshing settings". - Event ID 266 I would appreciate any advice on this as I am preparing to deploy Windows 7 during the summer holidays. I have had WDS working perfectly in a test environment and have compared settings to the test environment servers. Could it be something to do with WDS or RIS previously running in the live environment? Thanks in advance Ed
  7. Apeo - I am going to try this by disabling or taking out the libraries as you have done. Can you possibly explain in more detail how to go about this? Shall I delete the main libraries folder from the mandatory profile and also do the registry hack. cheers Ed
  8. Cheers again I have gone back and tried normal folder redirection. I created a normal ad user account, set the home drive letter to N: and the location to \\Server\data. I have folder on the server named data to hold the home folders (no structure, year groups etc). I have set up the folder redirection settings to "Basic - Redirect everyones folder to the same location", "Create a folder for each user under the root path", "Root path - \\Server-01\data" It works with these straight forward settings, but I obviously require the mandatory profile and a more structured folder structure for data storage. I will have another try with your updated guide, which is great by the way and I will also see how I get on with where I am so far. Again - thanks ver much for your help I really appreciate it. Ed
  9. I have copied the changed libraries into the mandatory profile and still not luck Im afraid. The default save path for documents is C:\Users\TEMP\Documents as default and C:\Users\Public\documents as the second location. Is there a certain way that you need to set up mapping to the home folder? In the user properties in Active Directory Users and Computers I have the network drive set to N: and the path as \\Server-01\%username%. I have the path to the mandatory profile and a students logon script pointing to a resources folder. I have tried various combinations of storage location structures for the home folders including: Users >Students >>2009Intake >>>09bloggsj >>2010Intake >>>09bloggsj >Staff StudentData >2009Intake >>09bloggsj StudentData >09bloggsj I just cant seem to get this to work and I am trying to nail this so that I can get everywhere upgraded during the summer. Is there something else you think that I should be trying here? Would it be worth trying romaing profiles instead of mandatory? many thanks again Ed
  10. Hi - I gave this a try, but the "Documents Libraries Locations" window has the default save path for documents as C:\Users\TEMP\Documents as default and C:\Users\PUBLIC\documents as a second location. I am using mandatory profiles not roaming would this make a difference? cheers Ed
  11. Thanks a lot I will give this a try and let you know how I get on
  12. Hi - hopefully someone can advise me on a folder redirection issue that we are having. I am busy testing out windows 7 and server 2008 R2 in a test environment and hoping to implement this upgrade during the summer. I have chosen to go with mandatory profiles and folder redirection via GPO. All is fine apart from a weird problem we are having with folder redirection. The redirection fails intermittently. If I log on with a test user account everything works fine and "Documents Library Locations" window displays the Default save location to the home folder path on the server. I log off and then back on with the same test user account and the folder redirection fails and the "Documents Library Locations" window displays the default save location to C:\Users\12teststudent\Documents. I have the test home folder stored in the following location on the server: D:\Users\Students\2012Intake In the user account properties I have the home folder path set to: \\Server-01\12teststudent In the GPO I have set the folder redirection on the Documents folder as: Basic - Redirect everyone's folder to the same directory Redirect to the users home directory I have attached a screenshot of the Documents Library Locations window when the redirection fails. I would appreciate any advise on this. Eddie
  13. Hi All I am busy testing Office 2010 in a Server 2008 R2/Windows 7 test environment. I have performed a custom install of Office 2010 on the client. I set Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Publisher and Word to run from computer. When logged in as a student all the applications work fine except for Access. Access opens up fine, but when trying to create a new database we recieve the following error: "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer." I have a GPO applied to the student users OU with access restricted to the C drive for obvious reasons. Does Access 2010 require write access to the C drive for any purpose or could this be an error when installing Office? Access runs without any problems as a local PC user or domain admin. Has anyone else came across this problem? Kind Regards Eddie
  14. Hi - I am preparing to roll out Windows 7 to all client PCs and am working on a test environment at the moment with 2 Server 2008 R2 boxes and 1 Windows 7 box. I have used the group policy settings to hide the user libraries. The problem I have at the moment is when I am logged on to the test domain on the windows 7 client with a student or staff account I get no location options when I try to save a file. E.g. When using "Save As" in Microsoft Word there are no drives available for selection. In the left hand column in the "Save As" window all that displays is "Word > Templates" How should I go about enabling users to save files in the normal way? Any advice on this would be really appreciated. cheers Eddie
  15. Yes I can see your point and I have considered taking the users across to live@edu. There are things that I am not 100% on for staff use though, such as security for if the finance or senior management want to send encrypted or secure emails etc. Also to get the integration with AD and to get required management features Im sure that you need to install a Identity Lifecycle Server as well. I have also looked into hosted Exchange services as well, but seem to keep coming around to Exchange.
  16. My SAN hasn't got the capacity at the moment to store the exchange data so I would still have to store it locally or expand the SAN I suppose. What spec would you recommend for the server in order to run the 110 mailboxes. I know that the more RAM and processing power the better, but how should I configure the drives on the server? Should I go for a RAID 1 array for system and RAID 5 array for data?
  17. Cheers for the reply. So you could just create another virtual server within XenServer, allocate enough resources to it and it should be ok?
  18. Hi - We have recently made the move to become and Academy so we need to move away from the LEA OWA provision and implement our own internal email system. I have been looking into Exchange 2010 and hosting locally on site. I would just be using Exchange for staff as we have the students on live@edu so I would need the exchange system to cater for 110 mailboxes. I am thinking of the best way to go as far as spec and system set up goes. At the moment I have our server environment fully virtualised using Citrix Xen Server on two physical servers, which connect up to our SAN. I have looked at virtualising the exchange, but it works out pretty costly so I am swaying in the direction of installing Exchange on one physical server with it's own local storage array. Is it possible to have all Exchange functionallity for the 110 mailboxes running on the one server? I would be purchasing a new server for this install. I would appreciate all your views and advice on this. Cheers Eddie
