Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did wonder about WEEE regs. I understand totally about liability. So, hypothetically... If the recipient was aware of the risks, and signed something to say that the goods were donated out of good faith and the school accepted no responsibility for damages, blah, blah, blah. Where would I stand then? Is there a definite legal requirement for the school to obtain a WEEE disposal certificate? I am reading all sorts of stuff on the net about this not being a legal requirement. Hard to deciphers what the truth is. The kit does contain HDDs, as I said... I am happy to wipe these prior to donation. The liability risks make perfect sense. Just want to be sure about legalities. Thanks for the advice so far.

Hi all, Kind of lost touch with all of the GDPR regs and how to dispose of I.T kit. I have a small amount of kit that I no longer have a use for, and have been apporoached by a member of staff's son who runs his own I.T business. He said he could use the kit for spares. Where do I stand legally if I wanted to 'donate' the kit to said individual? I am understand that the HDDs / configs will need to be securely wiped and can easily do this internally. Do I need to prove that the data was wiped and does the recipient of the kit need to provide anything to the school in terms of paperwork? I am not aware of the recipient being a formal recycling company. Just wanted to be sure where I stand before making any decisions. Many thanks,

Hi all, Does anyone happen to have any spare working Cisco 3750G-48PS switches that they are looking to throw out? I work for a small secondary school with an extremely tight budget and need to expand the network. Worth an ask! Many thanks, Gavin

Thanks very much for your help today! Really appreciate what you did and all your advice. Started to document everything that needs be done going forward. I owe you one!

Oh yes! I see what you mean now! Yes, I deleted config.text and VLAN.dat from both Switch_2 and Switch_3 before configuring this morning. I have seen a VTP domain on one switch. Can't remember where I saw it now but will pull off that config in the morning. Hopefully, once I configure the gig interfaces as trunk tomorrow, the VTP and VLANS will populate.
-
Forgive my naivety but I'm not sure you mean about being careful with VTP and indication that the switches have not been trunked into the network? What would I look for to suggest this? There are a couple of switches that have been swapped out fairly recently that work as they should but I can only console on to these at the moment. I'll try the configs first thing and let you know. Thanks again!

Hi all, Got a bit of a weird one here... Just had two switches fail on me. Cisco 3560s. (Switches 2 and 3) Switch layout as follows... Core <<< >>> Switch_1 <<< >>> Switch_2 <<< >>> Switch_3 Only been doing the job for a week with no handover documentation from the previous. No passwords for switches and have tried to do password recovery without any luck. Anyway... managed to find two new 3560s. Plugged them in with fibre links, configured both switches a very basic config using the startup wizard. Hostname. Set the enable and VT passwords. Vlan1 as management No further VLANS added. No configuration changes made to ports. Now, here is where the problem starts on both switches 2 and 3. I initially set up Vlan1 to pick up an IP from the DHCP Server (Windows 2012) - Just to ensure connectivity! No good. Set Vlan1 with a static IP, subnet, etc. Can't ping my way through the network or any of the other switches. CDP Neighbors shows the correct devices at either end of the fibre links. No IP addresses leased to client devices. However... If I remove the switch from the cab and plug it into a directly into a known working switch via Ethernet, it'll pick up an IP address and issue addresses to clients. What am I missing here? I can't get into the other switches to see their configs but I know 'Old Switch 2' had its fibre connections set as trunk ports and there were two additional VLANS (10 and 20) but these were not assigned to any other ports. I have configured the fibre interfaces as trunks and checked that these are associated with Vlan1, still no luck. Why would DHCP pass through the Ethernet ports but not the fibre connections? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gav

Hi all, I am looking to make the push to Office 365 in the near future. Before doing so, I'd like to demonstrate to teaching staff what the product has to offer. We already use a lot of the on-premise features of O365. (Skype for Business, SharePoint 2013, Exchange 2013) so this isn't my main focal point. What I primarily want staff to see is the Microsoft Teams feature of O365. Difficult to do without an environment of our own. Is there anyone out there that can come out and deliver a demonstration and live environment for us to see / try? Many thanks, Gavin

Hi, Yes, I've checked the proxy settings in IE and can browse the web without any problems. Got a NIC in each domain and have tested both proxy addresses just to be sure. Strange thing is... Can't refresh product key data either. Get the same timeout message. Sounds like an internet related issue. Weird!

Hi Chris, Just wondered what you did to resolve this? Not quite sure what you mean by registering the VAMT PS tools? Have exactly the same problem here. Built a new 2012 server with VAMT 3. Was working perfectly until last week and now can only install product keys. Can't activate for some reason. Gav

Just had a thought chaps... Our Folder Redirection policy is set to 'Create a folder for each user under the root path'. Does this actually matter? All users have their home drive set in User Properties and connect to drive H: This has always been the case but wondered if was actually set up correctly by my predecessor.
-
Mike, This one has me stumped! Folder redirection worked perfectly for us until I had removed permissions from the docs share. Scratching my head is an understatement. Now hitting my skull against the office desk! lol. Can't for the life of me, figure out why my test setup on the same server with the same permissions, GPOs, etc works... and current setup doesn't!
-
Glen, I removed these permissions... Users (Domain\Users) Domain Users (Domain\Domain Users) I have just tried resetting a home directory on a test account. The first logon after the reset, gave me two locations in the Documents Library. C:\Users\Administrator\Documents C:\Users\Public\Documents Deleted both local and server copies of user's profile to see if that would iron it out and now back to one location again... C:\Users\Public\Documents Weird!!
-
Hi Glen, Thanks for this... Yes, students are the owners of their home folders. Students can get to their home folders if they go through 'Computer' and can save, delete, etc. Will adding traverse/list folder contents allow redirection to take place? I haven't added that to the test documents share and redirection works perfectly. Not at all disputing what you are saying, just trying to understand in my own mind what has happened. Thanks for your help so far. Gav

Hi all, I had an issue this week where students were able to browse other students documents folders by drilling down through the system. I have now fixed this by removing certain permissions from the Home Folders share folder. The only NTFS permissions that now reside on the share are... CREATOR OWNER (Special/Full Control) SYSTEM (Full Control) Administrator (Administrator@Domain) (Full Control) Administrators (Domain\Administrators) (Full Control) I now have an issue where students home directories are mapped correctly as drive H: but they can't access their Docs, Pics, Music, etc from the shortcuts on the Start Menu. Clicking 'Documents' throws up an empty 'Documents Library' with only '1 Location'. Previously, there were 2 Locations, one of them being (Servername\Documents\Students\2014\Username) Folder redirection appears to be working perfectly with no errors from the event log, but clearly isn't. I have seen this issue posted a couple of times but haven't yet found a resolution. To try and understand what I could possibly have done wrong, I decided to set up a test documents folder structure... (Servername\DemoDocs\Students\2015) NTFS Permissions are as follows... CREATOR OWNER (Special/Full Control) SYSTEM (Full Control) Administrators (Domain\Administrators) (Full Control) Set up a new 2015 security group, created a new '2015' OU, GPO for folder redirection and added a new user to the AD. Logged in with the new user account and folder redirection works perfectly with the new documents share. Absolutely stumped! Any ideas what has happened here? How do I get folder redirection working for all of the current users again? Many thanks, Gav

Hi all, I know this is an old package... Just wanted a bit of advice (if you can) about deploying CS3 without the Flash Plug-Ins. Can this be done? I've scanned the installation files and Payload folder for snippets of information that might point me in the right direction. So far I have... Removed "AdobeFlashPlayer9_plDbg_mul" and "AdobeFlashPlayer9_axDbg_mul" from the 'Setup.xml' file and also removed the respective folders from the 'Payloads' folder. This doesn't seem to have worked at all, in fact... It's buggered the install up to the point where it throws a hissy fit at the 'Installing Shared Components' stage. Just wondered if anyone had successfully done this, if so? How did you do it? Many thanks, Gav

Hi all, Hope someone can shed a bit of light on this one... Having a bit of trouble with FMS and BACS eAdvice Emails. I have entered the correct information (or what I assume is the right info) into 'Establishment Details' within FMS. We are using Exchange and have entered the FQDN of the mail server into the 'Mail Server' box. Port is set to 25 and no encryption or authentication is selected. The 'Return Email Address' is set to an internal email account and test emails are sent and received successfully. However... Emails sent from FMS to external suppliers are not received when doing a BACS run. We have asked the suppliers to check their junk folders and they have responded telling us that emails aren't getting through. Is there any way within SIMS/FMS to find out if the emails are being sent in the first place? Seems a bit odd that the test email can be received internally but anything sent externally doesn't find it's way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Gav

Morning all, Just wondered if anyone could offer a bit of advice? I want to produce a report detailing how much time a user has spent browsing multiple categories in a working day? I have clicked through the reporting feature already and can only see an option for single category reporting per user. Hope I haven't missed something? Thanks in advance. Gav

Hi all, We are looking to integrate ParentPay with SIMS at February half-term. The people carrying out the work need to integrate their cashless system (Impact) with both SIMS and ParentPay. They have requested a link from their computer in the school refectory to the school network which will allow them to access SIMS. This is now in place but wondered if there were any issues I need to be aware of? Also, where do we stand with data protection? Currently, their cashless system only requires student names, cashless card numbers and year groups which is fed into the system by means of uploading a CSV into the Impact system. I have a slight concern that a computer managed by an external company will be able to see SIMS data. Am I over analysing this? lol. Many thanks, Gav

Hi all, Just wondered if anyone can help with this...? I want to install CS3 Design Standard without the Flash Player 9 plugins. Is this possible? I have scanned through the various XML files on the install DVD and have seen entries for both Active X and Plugin versions of Flash Player 9 in the setup.xml file. Removing these lines from the XML doesn't make any difference and Flash Player is still installed as part of the CS3 install. I have also tried renaming the folders containing the Flash MSI's and the installation fails at the 'Shared Components' stage. I'm obviously missing a trick here but hoped someone might know the answer? Many thanks, Gav

Yes, I've tried detaching and reattaching and also restoring from really old backups too to see how far the fault goes back. Either way, the problem remains. :/
-
Thanks for the link... I did see this but with it being 4 years old, I wasn't sure if there would be any fresh information on this particular fault.
