If I encounter low headphone volume, I usually suspect my headphones. Sometimes they are broken, sometimes a pair of headphones used elsewhere has a high impedance and doesn't work on some devices. I would try some other headphones and confirm the problem is with the source before doing anything else.

Interestingly, I am seeing a different trend in the market. I just recently upgraded and replaced my desktop PC. I am seeing people purchase desktop PCs with more power and options and go lighter on the power of their portable devices. In other words, you have a small portable device for being out and about and a desktop for the power work at home.

If it is your dream to do IT, you should go for it. Look for opportunities to build your skill set and knowledge base so you become a more valuable player. You might have to do something else for a while to pay the bills, but if you are willing to work and make the sacrifice, you will come out OK. You should pick one specialty area and then diversify into other skills. Good luck!
