  1. Registered Clinically Insane would be a definate advantage, plus a penchant for handling children (the ones who teach the classes not the ones who sit in them!) Seriously any experience you can gain be it volountary or oaid, plus a shed load of qualifications. coming from the corporate would i wouldn't even look at CV's unles they had a host of the necessary exams (simply as there are so many people applying for jobs in IT) but more importantly experience. if you have experience that counts for a lot more in my book.
  2. i may well go for the both on one server solution as it may prove useful when this V.L.E stuff kicks in. it all in the planning so looks like i will be spending my christmas reading techie books !!
  3. I hadn't decided on whether to put E2k£ & 7 within the same domain or have it as a seperate server. Any advice? Yeah the PST's are all on local Laptop Hard drives but i want to have them on the server so they can log in from any machine and access thier mail.
  4. cheers fellow geeks, very much appreciated
  5. Mmmmmm yes. we have our mail through easynet at the mo so that challenge should be interesting. also i currently have server 2003 on the curric server. when i install exchange is it going to have a tantrum?
  6. Anyone know of a good DVD ripper thats preferably free? i have to transfer DVD's that have a load of school plays on and stuff into movie maker and i dont have the budget for the necessary hardware/softare option. so i figured if i could rip the DVD's into AVI then i could import the result into movie maker and voila!! Stu

  8. I am about to embark on the planning for an exchange implementation. Having never installed server software before anyone got any tips or can steer me clear of any exchange nuances? Be even better if someone had a planning/implementation doc I could practice my plaguerism tendencies on! Stu
  9. HA HA superb. that put me in mind of a piece written by Alan Coren back in the eighties(yeah i'm that old, was around before Gates!) it had me in stitches. check it out ..... http://www.mipmip.org/tidbits/grauniad.shtml Stu
  10. thanks my children! i have discovered there is a manual finalising option which i hadn't done Derrrrrr! that seems top have fixed it, although i will go for the DVD+R option in future - thanks SYNACK. Stu
  11. now now children we use powerdvd here and it says no disk in the drive. the recorder did do some finishing thing so i'll check that out and see whats what. any ideas if it all looks ok?
  12. Hi all, i know i am probably having a blonde moment here but i just got myself a DVD recorder to transfer all the old legacy vids onto DVD so i dont have to keep sorting the 'video dont work' only to discover the tape was made 1893! anyway, got myself a little samsung r149 and a load of sony DVD-R's and started recording. after the first one i tested that all was ok and it plays back ok on the samsung however, if i try and play it on any of the laptops (acer aspire, dell latituse's) the disk isn't recognised. any clue's? i am wondering whether the DVD-r isn't compatable but as it didly squat about this sort of thing i thought i would ask the experts.
  13. i have tried spiceworks and OCS. both are good but spiceworks is very simple to install and has tons of features. you can run reports from it showing hardware and software.

  15. Hi cadjs, i have exactly the same issue and have been searching for a way to cache the clipart within cachepilot. this looks for to complicated, even if it can be done. i much prefer the 'disable internet access' solution. how can i do this centrally without having to log onto each individual user and configuring each Office program?
  16. Hi Chalkwellstu! Wow!...My background is also mainframes and AS400s....brings back memories! Really enjoyed working on AS400s until the company decided to go for 'cheap" intel servers and MS to run SAP. What a can of worms that was....But that's history and now I am in ICT in schools and getting to grips with w2k3 servers and Winxp clents......and beginning to enjoy. Hope you do aswell! well it would great if it wasn't for the children and the paranoid, insecure teachers that want to know why there laptop is so slow and when you explain that having napster and i-tunes as well as MSN running along with the 5 word programs and mathswhizz they get all twitchy and say its the laptop. :-)
  17. Hey thanks Iain, still getting to grips with this server stuff as my background is mainframes and AS400's. you saved me a load of time. Stu
  18. Hi all, anyone got a script for modifying the 'member of' section of a user profile build? I have just entered the world of school ict and on doing my first pass of AD have discovered that all the students/staff are members of the Admin group!! the thought of accessing all the user accounts to rmove the unwanted groups doesn't fill me with everlasting joy thanks Stu
