Hi guys, I have two servers 2003DC (32bit), which have been there for some time. I thought of adding a new server 2008R2 (DELL T710) so that I can release some roles from my old server (DC1) which runs really slowly. DC1 is DNS/DHCP/File Server/Print Server/Ranger. DC2 (GC) is DNS/DHCP/Application Server/File server. I want to add the new server 2008R2 and add DNS /print server/ Ranger. Can anyone advice me on how to do this please. THANKS IN ADVANCE DAVE

Internet filtering for Primary School

we have licences for SBS2003 -
Some would say that backing up to tape is now an obsolescent process and the best form of backup is to another hard disk off site or online backups over the internet. Or, if that is not practical, to a writeable DVD drive. Whilst tape might not be the most modern way of backing up to DVD isn't necessarily the most reliable either. All schools should definitely be backing up their data somewhere but what are your views on the best method? Thanks Dave

I've recently finished a network installation in a small school in London. After finishing the installation they are now asking me over internet content filtering software to prevent the students from accessing porn and other sites. Just a bit of techy background. There are 15 WinXP SP3 workstations, 30MB Fiber Optic broadband, newly installed win 2003 SBS server (although i haven't installed or configure ISA or Exchange, just standard win 2003R2 installation). I am using DHCP to dish out the address of the router across the network. Ideally i would prefer some kind of server solution as it is a lot easier to install and run. I have come across surf control as the main product. What's the most popular content filtering solution in schools? They would prefer to go on a similar system as they are not linked to local education authority. Anyone any recommendations for any solutions? Any providers that provide cheap charity licences much appreciated. Thanks Dave

Hi guys, Having installed sims befor I wasn't particularly daunted by this. However as usual something awkward had to happen. I installed the sims system and it updated everything (2hours) then I was able to log in; I then logged out stopped the MSSQL service so that I could copy the database files from the old server over, but when I did I couldn't restart the service it just tried then stopped again, has anyone had this problem before? Thanks Dave

Adding Advanced Proxy & URL filter to IPCop
boolyn replied to boolyn's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Thanks andy_b for your reply. But i want to find a way to add those add-on regardless of the version. say i re-install IPCop 1.4.x . If so how can I add these two; I am mainly looking for a proper web-filter like URL filter. Any help will be highly appreciate. -
Hi guys, Could you please help me with adding these (Advanced Proxy & URL filter) two add-on to IPCop 2.0. I tried all the methods such as using WinSCP and PuTTY. but none of them worked out. I have already spend more than 2 weeks on this matter. May be because of my poor knowledge in Linux that I’m struggling. If anyone can advice me on how to add these two, step by step would save my life. Please help me out. Thanks in advance to all of you..!

Hi everyone, Can anyone give me a good solution for a default network printer? We have a vanilla network running Server 2003 Standard with XP Pro SP3 with Ranger v5. Do I have to get another server running 2003 R2 or is it possible to do with the Script.? Please advise me in detail. Thanks in advanced.

Hi everyone, This is my first post, If anyone can help me by giving advice , I'll greatly appreciate it. My question is, is it possible to use HP ProCurve Switches as a mix of PoE and none PoE. Will there be any complication, traffic wise in the network? We have a future idea of implementing VOIP. hence I thought of replacing the faulty switches with the PoE switches. Or is there any alternative to this? Please help me in this of what to do. Thanks in advanced.
