We have done this for our admin staff, very cost effective at free pounds and free pence We just started a free Office 365 account on our domain, just took some DNS changes. We then sync our AD accounts straight into O365. We only use the Lync portion, so had no need for federation, just the standard password sync. Any questions let me know. James

I am pretty sure Remmina does not have RDP Gateway support, as numerous tickets/forum requests are open for this feature to be added. Although not sure why Win 7 won't connect, as long as you can get general net access in a win 7 VM, RDP should work. Maybe try the above instructions on how to use the settings you have been given. You shouldn't have to open ports in your firewall, as you will be requesting outside from inside which will usually be open, you should only need to open ports if other people are accessing an RDP server in your network. Ah just seen Win 7 in virtualbox, Bristol University | IT Services | Remote Desktop Gateway Service see section marked manual settings, it is for Bristol uni, but it should give you the jist for a gateway connection. or see: Remote Desktop from Debian through Terminal Services Gateway | Agmosoft LLC although not sure what base PCLinuxOS is using though. The plan is: 1 x 10TB Array and controllers 2 x 24 port iSCSI capable switches 12 nics per Hyper-V host(they already have eight each) At least 4 extra nics for SAN for the DPM server and other SAN member servers. SAN will have 2 hyper-v hosts,(R710) 1 DPM 2012R2 (PE2950 with MD1000 shelf) server and the main DC (R510) It will only be a single SAN, so whatever we go with will have to have Failover controllers and dual PSU's I live to plan How else would I get my Visio practice!

Thanks for that seawolf. I just need to find out if a 2008r2/2012r2 cluster is viable then, if so, your way sounds like a good no downtime way.

Evening all, While I should be on holiday, and not thinking about all things network, the boss ok'ed a SAN on Friday(which one is still to be decided, that will go to scrutiny in the new year). Currently we run 2 main hosts, both identical R710's on Server 2008R2, one purely on local storage and the other on a PERC attached MD1000 drive shelf. Each one has around 5 VM's on it. No clustering. The SAN is going to be storage for the VM's, as local storage is currently dwindling. The plan is to cluster the 2 servers and load balance the VM's over the 2 servers and provide enough oomph on each to failover to single node if needed. That has pretty much been decided, it is the how that I am scratching my head with. I would like to go with 2012R2 going forward, and the servers are on 2008R2 so would it be best to export the VM's to a share on the new SAN(shared on a different SAN attached server to the hosts) and then completely wipe and rebuild the 2 hosts from scratch as a 2012R2 cluster and then import the VM's back in to the new cluster? That seems to be the best way to do it to me, but am I right? Any input would be nice Thanks and Merry Christmas to you all. James

To be honest most run of the mill PC's these days come with 4GB of RAM and a decent processor with built in graphics that will do everything bar the most intensive work, so really it's down to price! I can recommend Very PC as a supplier, we tried them out as an alternative to Dell, and found them cheaper and more helpful, they will bash out a spec to fit you, not sell you a spec they think will fit. Also the laser etched front panels with our college logo are v cool James

I have a Wyse Z90 thin client with 4GB of RAM running Debian Jessie and a 1TB internal 3.5 drive strapped to the outside Very quiet (although its hard wired in the garage) and does all the linux testing I need, plus general household stuff like storage, autotorrents, webcam streaming and collation from the 5 Pi's around the house, music server/whole house audio, video server for the "connected living room" etc. Windows testing is done on the 72GB 4TB Dual Quad Xeon servers at work over VPN if needed My first PC had a full 1MB of RAM and no HD, oh how things have changed! Hi all, We are currently starting to evaluate PaperCut NG with an SQL 2012 backend. I have managed to import all 19 odd thousand student numbers into the user database, which is nice, and have the release station asking only for card number. The problem I am having is that how do you get the computer client to work with card number and not with username and password? All the students log into centre computers with a shared login, consequently when you print it logs it against username not card number We use moodle login numbers from an sql database rather than AD, hence the constant head scratching! Any help would be appreciated, Thanks James

Hi all, I've got one of those 'enforced' days off today, so I've decided to tackle the garage... Now, in there is a large bundle of computer wires, all old stuff that is now obsolete and an old HP server(4U heavy bugger by the name of Albert ) Can these be taken to the scrapyard in exchange for toy tokens? Or will they laugh me off the premises, quote WEEE and send me to the tip? Any advice appreciated, end of the month and all that and if I can make money on a day off, that would be nice Thanks James

It will be listed on your account on the MS Volume Licencing Service Center or whatever access you have to your licences online. Otherwise yes, contact the original seller for details of what was actually bought. James

It depends if you have active software assurance on the licences. If not, then no, your licenses are not valid for 2013. If you do have SA on them, then the upgrade will be part of it, so fine. James

I am looking for the sources we got the info from, when we came across this. I was adamant that MS couldn't stop us installing linux, but their definition of a VOS in 2008R2 includes any operating system. Let me search my email for the proof our development manager found to shoot me down and then I will post it. James

The way it works on the enterprise license(which doesn't exist anymore, as you have to get 2012 Standards or DataCentre now on EES), is that you are allowed 3 VM's on the host if the host does other work other than just being a hyper-v host, if the host is only doing hyper-v hosting, nothing else, then you can install 4 VM's. And here's the other kicker, its not just Windows VM's for the limit, ie the 3/4 limit is for any operating system, so you can't install 3/4 Windows server VM's and loads of little linux ones. The limit is for any OS. James

So they are saying that they gave you discounted licenses if you use their management system, and if you want to get rid of it, they will have to come in and uninstall it for you to keep the licenses valid? I would confirm you have the licences showing in the VLSC and then tell them rollocks. As far as I know, resellers only act as middle men between you and microsoft. They have no hold over the licences. James

Do you not have an MS agreement number? Do you have access to the MS VLSC(Volume Licensing Service Center)? As far as I know, you just set up access to the VLSC and add your agreements. I've never heard of a 3rd party management system for MS licenses. James
