  1. Hi Guys, Here’s a question that will get you thinking! I have the following situation: I have two Academies that need to be connected using a VPN. Academy 1 has a TMG Server which NATS from the SWGFL IP Range to our internal range which is much bigger than the SWGFL Provided range. Academy 2, has a RRAS Server and has a small number of computers with a DNS and DHCP Server. I need these two Academy to connect to each other. We have decided to use RRAS to join Academy 2 to Academy 1 using PPTP. I have configured the TMG Server at Academy 1 to allow PPTP Through to the RRAS Server (172.16.0.26) and configured a On Demand interface. When I try to connect from Academy 2 I get the following error (see screen capture). Does anyone have any idea as to what is going wrong or how I can setup the RRAS server on the Legacy (SWGFL) network and connect to our internal network. Academy 1 setup TMG Server 10.3.128.69 (SWGFL Netowrk) 10.3.128.2 NAT to 172.16.0.26 (PPTP) Internal Network IP Range Start: 172.16.0.1 IP Range End: 172.16.65.254 Academy 2 RRAS Server: 172.16.100.1 (Default Gateway) DHCP Server: 172.16.100.8 Network Range: 172.16.100.1 – 172.16.101.254 Hope this makes sense to you I can provide more details if required to assist with this issue. Kind Regards
  2. Is for the Thin Client Screen or for the Web Access Gateway Login Screen? I'm looking for the Thin Client settings not the web interface.
  3. VMWare is also free if you are only using this on a small scale, not much config required and it has a smaller footprint to Windows. I'm speaking from the point of view that we used Hyper-V and have now moved to VMWare ESXi 5. We have found we have more space to play with and have a better reliability of our hosts and vm's. ESXi 5 doesn't require much config install the OS, set the IP, download client and off you go takes under 1 hour. I'll post a video if that helps.
  4. Have you fixed this issue or are you still looking for help.
  5. Hi Guys, I have an issue, I need to change all the branding on our thin clients around the school. The things I need to change is the banner along the top of the login screen that it gives us. Does anyone know how to do this? Kind Regards
  6. Hi Guys, We go through SWGFL for our Internet connection and keep seeing realy slow internet and slow DNS Lookup, with sometimes the internet cutting out. Sometimes we are lucky to get an error generated by the upstream proxy which changes. Kind Regards
  7. Hi Guys, Here a good one for you all to get your heads around. We have just had installed a new network with 3 Virtual Hosts and HP ProCurve Switching throughout our network. We use a smoothwall for filtering and we are experiencing poor internet connection. We see our internet connection drop out several times a day for period of up to ten minutes but this does not affect all users. During these times we are able to ping bbc.co.uk and google.co.uk with the response time varying from 15ms to 96ms and sometimes we even see error pages generated by our proxy saying unable to forward request at this time. If we do a trace route all of our internal switches respond within 1ms including our proxy server. On our network we use SCCM 2012 to deploy OS, Application and Software Updates. We also use a TMG Server to NAT through to our SWGFL assigned IP range, this was done because our IP range from SWGFL was not big enough. But again all of this kit responds in 1ms. We have fibre to all of our cabs and 10 GB direct to our servers. So my question is where is our problem?
  8. Hi Guys, Before I start I posted this in 'Windows Server 2008 R2' because this is my Server environment that I am using. I have a shedualed task that shutsdown all the computers at 7pm for as long as there is no user logged in. I would like the computers to auto boot first thing in the morning. Does anyone know of a way to autmate this? Any suggestions would be good as we have 400 Desktop PC's that need to be started ready for teachers to start using at 9am. Kind Regards
  9. Hi Guys, We lost our internet about 10 minutes after I made this post and didn't return untill about 4pm. Our internet connection is up and down all day at the moment and we have a support call open. We are having issues with resolving DNS.
  10. Hi, we get the following error: *** ash-sr-001.ashdown.internal can't find wwww.google.com: Non-existent domain We also can't do ping to outlook.com or to my own servers at home that I know I can ping and they are both running. We share our connection with another school and they are unable, to access any internet atall. When we do a tracert to google.co.uk we get to ntlconnect.swgfl.ifl.org and then don't get anything back. Stange things are happening.
  11. Hi Guys, Does anyone have any issues with SWGFL with connecting to the internet, pinging sites or services or general use? We are in Poole. We are unable to ping dns1-int.swgfl.ifl.net 62.171.194.104 and 62.171.194.105 which is dns0-int.swgfl.ifl.net. Any help that would be greatful. Kind Regards
  12. Hi Guys, I have been checking the settings around the access rules with RM CC3. We have modithy and read to all users on our system, we have rasied a support call with RM and we are finding that we have more issues on our network. Like System Administrators are unable to modithy the Firewall settings even if we change the Settings in RMMMC and they don't deploy to stations. So it looks like we have some issues with our GPO's so we are waiting to see what they come up with. For the moment we have got some standalone laptops running Windows XP SP3 and installed it on them. Something else that is strange on Windows 7 Clients (not rm cc3 just joined to the domain) work perfectly. We will see what happens. Regards
  13. Hi Bruce, We are able to get it to work on a Standard XP Machine which is not connected to the Network (big pain as we are going to be testing about 20 - 30 students at a time). This is fine but we have RM CC3 so it needs to go on to our Networked Machines that are in one of our ICT Rooms. So some how we have to get it to install to RM CC3 which you would think installing it manualy would work but for some reason it doesn't . The RM CC3 XP Machine has the RMSmartClient installed which comunicates with the SmartCache (proxy server) with the users details (username/password). We have tried everythiing we can think of to get this to work weather it be having a blank proxy file or filling in the details we still are unable to get it to work on the network. Our current solution is get some old laptops and build them as XP Standalone PC's and isntall City and Guilds but this is a temp fix and not ideal. Regards
  14. Hi David, We are CC3 I'm not quite sure about the difference between the two networks but a bit of advice for installing it. Don't split the Package into the Secure Client and SQL Companact package the hole thing as one. We have been asking around about this and have found another school local to use that have not been able to Remotely deploy it and get it to work using a Remote Installation Process like us. But when they install it manualy to their network it works perfectly unlike our network where it doesn't work on any RM CC3 Connected XP Workstation. The SecureClient Install configures the SQL Compact Database during setup this is why we have not been able to split the package. Do you use a SmartClient or SmartCache? We are connected to SWGfL and use a SmartCache with a SmartClient installed on each machine, defineing the Proxy Settings in the Proxy.xml doen't seam to work. Any info that you can give me may help us get ours working (I hope!). I have been working on this know for 3 months with no luck, I hope you do better. Regards Thomas
  15. Hi Guys, We are trying to install E-VOLVE SecureClient Central which is a Client that allows our students to do online test. We are running RM CC3 Network. When we install the Application on the network we are unable to connect to the server and download a test to the local machine. Install the application on a Standard Windows XP Machine going through our proxy we are able to download the updated test data and worked perfectly. But this is not the same on an RM CC3 Machine. Does anyone else use the E-VOLVE SecureClient Central City and Guild Software or are we alone with this one?.... Any help would be nice please. Regards
  16. Hi Cwizard, We have had the same problem with finding Windows XP Drivers. We have taken to buy refurbished computers or buying from companies such as Novatech as they ship their PC's with the XP Drivers on a CD. Our other solution for Teacher Laptop is to Install Windows 7 Join it to our Domain, make a few teak in the local GPO and install Virtual PC with a XP RM CC3 Machine inside a VM. This way it allows the teacher the ability to use the laptop at home and at work, with there not being any issues. Our staff are quit happy with this and it doesn't break the user profile or Windows 7. The Windows 7 Machine can't be used by Students use the Laptop as if they logged in it would break their user profile, but this is not usually an issue for us. Oh our tweaks are we only allow Local Profiles nor Roaming Profiles to be used on the computer and I think there is another setting we change but I will check (it's been soo long since I've built a Windows 7 machine). As for RM Kit it is good for Primary Schools but we have found it to be under powered and expensive when it comes to the higher specs, and we just can't afford it! If you open up some RM 1 and RM EcoQuiets you will find a Laptop Motherboards, yes we do open them up once they are out of warranty. Hope that this helps
  17. Hi Guys, We are just about to go through a BSF Build we have £1.5 million to spend on ICT. The supplier is RM. We are attempting to get the best for the school, and as and IT Department (we are not teacher we are technicians) we would like to see a Vinilla network. As most other schools in the UK we have had our dudget cut, and I don't think we could continue to afford the RM Kit and the Licecnce costs. We currently have CC3 and where we can't afford RM'S computers that have a heigh enough spec to run the application we use we have start6ed to buy Second had machines which have been installed fine. We only have basic support with RM and find that some application are not supported or just wont install on our network. What I would realy like to know is what people think about going vinilla? Leaving RM wile we have the chance Also i would like to know what people think of RM CC4 Anywhere? and what people have done/use with a vinilla network. Just realy interested in people throughts on this realy! Thanks for any feedback on this would be helpfull.
