What I am going to do is I am going to leave it out at first, take an image. Then push that image, install QuickTime using the normal methods. I will take another image and push and test that image. If it works I may just use that image all over. Otherwise I am going to try bmittleider's method of extracting. I will use 7-Zip (free Download) very useful program for all kinds of extracting. Then I will test it. I will let you know how it goes. I will get back to you guys in a couple days. I am working on other projects at the moment.

Our organization deploys Win7 using WDS and we have added all of our drivers to our WDS server. When we PXE boot a machine and choose an image from the list, the computer queries the server and picks out the drivers it needs. Basically our steps are to make a "base" image that includes updates and some basic software everyone in our organization uses. Then using sysprep we generalize the image. I think including all the drivers in an image could be bad especially if you have a lot of different computer models. Unless there is some way to remove all the unneeded drivers, you would have a bunch of useless drivers lingering on your computer.

I am curious if anyone out there has had issues with including QuickTime in their Win7 image? We deploy Win7 with WDS and last year we deployed our OS with QuickTime included. I ran into a lot of issues during the school year. Many websites that required QuickTime wouldn't work. They would have a QuickTime Q with a ? over it. I verified that the QuickTime add-in was installed and enabled in IE8. I don't want to run into the same issue this year and I have read that using GPO to install is a big hassle as well. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling newer versions and that didn't seem to work. It only worked on the account that I had installed the new version on. We also use CopyProfile so that when we sysprep the account that's currently logged in becomes the default profile.
