Is there anyway that the print processor for the printer can be automatically changed on startup? It looks like that is the only way the printer will work

I couldnt find the controller drivers for the server, will do a proper search when I am at the school on Friday, I want to virtualise the server, but I need to look at the pros and cons of doing so

Im trying to install server 2003 on a spare server and set it up as a file server, however when trying to install server 2003 by booting from the CD it gives me the blasted "No hard drive found" error. I dont have the SATA drivers to boot using the F6 option. Are there any generic drivers that I can use to load the drivers so that it picks up the hard drive? The other option is to virtualise the server using VMWare ESXi

I am looking to virtualise one of our servers (file server so if anything goes wrong nothing major as long as my backups are working) now i have tested VMWare ESXi and its light, my question is VSphere asks for a licence - do I have to purchase VSphere separately to be able to manage the VMs? Also is there ANY way that the VMs can be view on the actual server ?

Again I have reinstalled the printer on a test workstation, installed the latest drivers from the canon website, it printed out on the first try, restarted the workstation and i can no longer print. Printer is listed as still installed etc but no communication with the printer. We are running Windows 7 on RM CC4... could one of the RM components be causing the problem? ------ EDIT ------- It seems as though when it stops working if i change the print processor in the printer properties it starts to work, then after a while it will stop working again... mmm

Its connected via USB, i would have expected to see it under "Printers" but there is nothing like that in device manager... im going to disable some CC4 components and see if that helps

Tried it, the printer started working for around 10 mins and was printing fine. The printer is not listed in device manager, it comes up as usb printing. Oh now im missing good old XP

I have some new Canon IP4850 printers which are working fine on windows XP, however after installing it on Windows 7 it just doesnt work! Windows 7 installs the drivers for the printer (using the cd) and then lists it in devices and printers however if i test out a print it nothing comes out - sometimes if im lucky i get an error about it not being able to communicate with the printer... Print spooler service is running, restarted it makes no difference I have the same problem on another brother printer which was working fine under XP but not in Win 7. Driving me crazy! I might be missing something simple here...

Yep, on monday it was only 1 school and i spoke to atomwide but they said I was the only person to call and report the problem which led me to believe it might have been internal, but as more schools started reporting the problem i knew it was not the school. I think they have made a change, seems to be working a little better

I tried to install the 32bit edition on the slate the other day and it prompted me for the hard drive drivers as it could not find a drive in setup. I left it there

Hi, I have users configured to use outlook and it has been working fine until this week, users are reporting that it is running extremely slow and that they are not receiving emails. I tried a manual Send/receive and it took more than 5 mins to sync with the exchange server. The internet at the school is working fine and I have loaded a new profile and configured outlook and we are getting the same thing. No updates have been applied on the network recently... Any ideas?

you can smartclient the laptop onto the network, RM have a tech article for it TEC1421182 Make sure you uninstall any antivirus and disable windows defender as they may interfere with the process! Have a read and follow the instructions, it should be straight forward

Trying to stop Windows Defender from starting automatically and there is no option for it via GPO (on a server 2003 network) unless you know how it can be done? Ill look into the dll issue with it breaking MS agreement...

Im changing the profile picture in windows 7, you need to change a dll in the system32 folder for it to work, set the batch file as a package and it is now working! Now just another batch file needed to disable some services

I have a batch file that I have created which changes the dll file to anme.dll.bak and then copies the new dll from the server share, it works when I run it as an administrator so I thought it would work as a startup script but it doesnt work... is there something simple that im missing?

Im trying to change a dll file in the system32 folder for all my windows 7 workstations on the network, I have tried to capture a package using WInstall but that does work (im guessing its permissions overwriting a dll in the system32 folder)? Is there another way that this can be done? a bat file or a startup script?

Has anyone been able to get the logo bit working as a package or is there another way that I can assign it to all windows 7 workstations?

I have just tried this with the school logo and will create a package to send out, will be doing some testing before I decide to put it across the whole network.

Got it working via a workaround, you can manually run the setup.exe from the SophosUpdate share and it adds the computer into the enterprise console

Had a look on the workstation and the Remote Registry service is already set to Automatic... im going to build a clean workstation and see if it is a package which is causing the problem

We have just recently installed Sophos Enterprise Console 4.7 on the server and have been pushing the clients onto the Windows XP machines with no problems. However when trying to push the sophos client (9.7) onto Windows 7 workstations it is failing with an error "Sophos was cancelled as 3rd party software was detected and could not be uninstalled" HOWEVER this is a brand new build with no other antivirus installed... rebuilt 2 laptops and the same thing... anyone have the same issue?

Hi there, I have a telephone technical test for a systems admin role coming up and I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of questions come up in these things? I have a 30min telephone test with the companies IT manager... I have had a short one before and they asked what the difference is between TCP and UDP, what is active directory and what is DNS Anymore that I should brush up on?

Does anyone know where RM keep the scripts they use on the server? I want to have a look at some of them and recreate some if possible

Im having this issue and the problem seems to be with roaming profiles, the server has been cleaned but as soon as someone logs in using a cached profile the network is infected again. I have combatted this by disabling the users and deleting all the local profiles using delprof. At the same time i am cleaning all the profiles. I have read the virus also spreads by using the RECYCLER folder so i am deleting everything in those folders too RMVP4 and Sophos have not picked it up, I have seen this before and am using the cmd to delete the infection. Has there been a new strain of the virus as it seems to have infected 3 people here...
