  1. Thank you - if anyone else has anything to offer then I'd welcome the info.
  2. Thank you RLR - when you say 'all your iPads' do you mean every one including ones we don't want to put the multi-user logons on?
  3. We have some classroom sets of iPads managed using Airwatch which we set up before the release of Apple School Manager. They each use a unique Apple ID, are in various class sets with their own groups of apps etc and have pretty much done what we wanted. We used DEP into Airwatch and they've been pretty good ever since. We're now getting asked to deploy them higher up the School where shared use is not so easy to handle - file management etc - and where everyone already has Google for Education/Chromebook individual logons. The idea being that multi-user logons are more appropriate in this area. From what I can see, to 'convert' these iPads to individual logons using the 'Education' feature (they do meet the spec) first requires the integration between School Manager and Airwatch etc, but then seems to suggest re-enrollment - which I'd like to avoid if I can. Has anyone gone down this road? We were wondering if it is as much work as it looks and how all the existing Airwatch groups and apps will fit into a scenario of School Manager/individual users and are there any other pitfalls awaiting us (very much non-Apple) support guys. Can anyone offer any advice please? Thanks in anticipation. Ian
  4. I'm interested to know if anyone is still working on this or getting issues. I too found the proxy issue and with a few workarounds verified that it will work (subject to those factors mentioned already) when the proxy not in the equation. However, getting a demo all set up today and it suddenly behaves different to on Monday - now I either can see the cast receiver but can't cast or I get 'Unexpected Error' and 'Restart the Cast Receiver' which just loops around (depending on the user). Can anyone comment/shed any light please?
  5. Hi Tim Thanks for the info. Any idea why the move to iboss? Ian
  6. Just starting to look at this and would be happy to share thoughts with others and any trial information.
  7. Are these by any chance N145 netbooks? I tried Chromium on one for an experiment. It worked okay but after a lot of various builds I never got one that had both WiFi drivers and fully-working mousepad functions together - plug in mouse was okay but rather defeated the object. I think Chromium 28.0.1484.1 gave a fair approximation but I stopped looking after that - it was a while back so you might fare better now. Other than that it was quite successful.
  8. Hi Bruce, sounds familiar to me. Don't want to clutter the thread with my ramblings so I have PM-d you to discuss. Will post back if I can contribute anything useful. Ian
  9. Many thanks for the response. I am polling a few schools directly too and two seems to be the bare minimum often with extra for AV etc.
  10. As a one-man band in a 250 workstation school I'm trying to present my boss with typical support levels found in schools as a comparison. I know this varies hugely and there are all sorts of reasons for that but, in general, my estimate is that to support 250 workstations, phones, 7-server domain and two sites I reckon two staff is about minimum. I'd appreciate any comments.
  11. Jess Many thanks. Have been told no funding this year now so on the back burner but I've found out a lot more about how modern apprenticeships work so maybe next year... Ian
  12. Thanks for the suggestion Neilenormal - we do use gap students and that was one path I was considering. I'm sure that grounding would be invaluable so long as they could handle the 'non-glamour' and graft of doing basic IT support.... Hence I started thinking of apprenticeships. But, yes, with the right person that would be ideal too.
  13. I'm potentially looking to bring in either a gap-year or a trainee ICT Technician. I might only get approval for one year at the outset so I was wondering if anyone had experience of doing that recently and if there were any channels to get help, advice or even suitable candidates.
