Sorted..... forgot that there was the 'reset owner' option in the 'advanced security settings' option. Did that for 'administrator', all sorted :-D What an eejit... you all have permission to smack me on my forehead....

Nope, if I log onto the fileserver, and attempt to change permissions on this file, I get "you do not have permission to view the current permission settings for...", although I get the option to add the administrator as a user. I do this, select 'full control', 'take ownership' etc, but when applying and OKing these changes, I then get "unable to save permission changes on... access is denied" Trust me....

We have a shared area, where kids can write to a folder but can't delete from it. One clever little s*d decided to save an explicit pic on there. I've changed permissions for the AD group so that the students can't open it, but stooopidly I also ticked 'deny' execute and read access for "users". Naturally, the administrator's rights (full control) are overridden by that one little 'deny', and I can't do anything with the file, not even on the fileserver itself. If I try and change permissions from the top level and apply down, I get the message that it can't change the security perms on this one file. I guess I could 'restore' it from last night's backup, but other than that, is there any other way around this and to allow me to access the file (for SMT) and get rid of that 'deny'?

Are you using version 0.97.3 ? I've not seen either problem (with this version), URLs look fine at school or from home with IE and Firefox. Tim Indeed, I have 0.97.3, going to have a tweak/fight with it in a while... ETA: My "base URL" was incorrect in my configuration settings - I'd added the 'logon.asp', so the footer was built using that. Removed 'logon.asp' from the URL, everything's right for user navigation again (hurrah) WRT Firefox: We are using ISA Server, I wonder if this has anything to do with it, although I've told Firefox not to look to ISA for local IPs...

Nothing to do with Gatt's problem, but I'm bumping this as I've discovered a couple of Liberum oddities that I hope fellow users might be able to help with: When I'm logged in as a user, or an administrator, the footer with the "User Menu | Rep Menu | Log Off" options has the incorrect URL syntax (eg: my Log Off has "http:///helpdesk/logon.asp/logoff.asp"). All of the URLs have the errant logon.asp stuck in the middle. Any ideas how to change the footer? I can see it referenced, but not where it lives.. Also, I cannot get mine to work in Firefox - I've the same proxy settings as IE, but it just isn't happy! Anyone got around this one?

I registered for this eons ago, when it first started (back in the day...!). The guy who runs it, Ben something, is very good at sending emails saying: "we hope to have something sorted soon", but that's about all. Think I registered in October sometime... I'm not holding my breath for anything soon!

I've got a DVD, just with the audio_ts and video_ts folders on it, and I want to put it on the network. Is there anything I can do to wrap it up to one file that I can then store on the network and allow teachers to run it from one location?

In my old school, they were solely Precedence-based. Can't fault their support in any way whatsoever. The web-based email could be neater and have a better interface, but Steve Borrill is a top bloke. The FileSurfer had only just been introduced as I left, but it did the job that was required :-)

Liberum looks good (especially the price!), now, all I need to do is to sit down with some peace and quiet (so not any time soon then) and work out where it'll sit, and how it'll integrate with our Exchange server. I hope it's smooth... Any other free options are welcomed. I did find the SomeHelp software simple to setup, but the interfact isn't pretty and it required users being setup... which could've taken me a long time...

I take it that this release may push the prices of the D series down a smidge? (well, I can hope)

Our Head of 6th form ordered something similar, and we attempted to set it up yesterday............ after 30mins of it searching and finding nothing, we gave up. Fine if you have an external aerial which you can plug it into, otherwise... awful..... (and we're in a good-to-medium Freeview coverage area)

How do you manage your workloads? Do you ask staff to report problems and requests in a certain way, or do you do jobs as and when? I'm trying to set up some proper reporting and request methods, and wondered if anyone else utilises this. I've pulled together problem report forms and change request forms and am trying to get them into circulation. Do you refuse anything by word of mouth, or do you ask staff to follow it up with something in writing? I have a NM who never writes anything down, and I'm getting staff coming to me saying: "he said it'd be done in October, and it's still not done.. can you sort it?"... so I'm hoping that with proper reporting procedures, less stuff will get missed. Oh for my HSBC days with separate departments dedicated to problem, and change management!!! 8O

How odd, from what I've heard / read, not just with D-Link stuff, but generally, the trick to getting different makes to talk is to ignore the bundled software and just use the Windows zero config stuff for the whole lot - ie do the opposite to Dos_Box's suggestion! I've done that with my cheapy wireless asdl modem/router and even cheaper card, and they seem happy enough...

Yep, in here too, but trying to use my hols up before March too. Official line is that hols should be taken in school hols, the NM here is taking the whole of March off to go to India... a whole month on my own... bliss...

Well, last night I bit the bullet and rebuilt the machine on a new HD... all seems fine. I needed a clearout anyway as the old version was rather sluggish (you never notice these things until you rebuild!) To confirm: it went through POST and the XP splash screen, display was fine. Got to Windows desktop (I had autologin), monitor went into standby and wouldn't come out. Did chkdsk /r, reset bios all before rebuilding. Can only assume that refreshrate was changed on profile on old HD, and new build has diff refreshrate... we hope. I shall see how it goes...

Isn't it just a teeny bit worrying that our so-called ICT teachers are recommending these sites to the students to browse over at home?! They're doomed... all of them...

@Geoff - nope, I checked that, just in case... @SirB - I have indeedy, seemed fine with PCI graphics... therefore, can only assume AGP slot error as card itself is fine *grumble grumble pants hardware grumble*. Of course, as I'm wanting a better spec'd machine, then as far as my OH is concerned, it's "definitely not an easy repair, we would be much better off investing in a new machine" *cough*

We use these, for big orders and have had no problems. Additional orders (such as insurance claims, etc), they claim not to be able to match original bulk-prices. Engineer-wise, a bit iffy, we had them in to install a few servers over the summer, there's a few bits and pieces they've omitted. Like Tony says, they do tend to quote you for what they think you should have.. but if you stand firm, you get what you want. Their 'competitive pricing' hasn't been so recently for us, but as a new customer they might treat you a little better...

Sorry to bump this again, but I'm still stuck with the damn thing. What I've done so far: 1. Plugged monitor into laptop - tested at all resolutions and refresh rates that the laptop would give out - all seems fine, it's not the monitor! 2. Opened a console onto the home PC via the laptop, changed res / refreshrate - no change - still goes into standby mode. I've pulled the graphics card out and popped it in a machine here today, it displays everything up to 1280 x 1024 with no problems. So - my last (and final) thought is that the AGP socket on my mobo's faulty - could that be possible? Obviously without getting another AGP card I can't test it! I'm going around in circles here trying to work out what the heck is going on. I think I'm going to give up and build a new machine as mine's 3 years old now... and isn't running FM2006 very well (much to the OH's annoyance). Athlon 64, socket 939 here we come...!!!

When we set our images up, as Administrator, I went into Regional and Languages in the Control Panel, under the Languages tab, hit 'details'. Under the Language Bar button settings, I unticked everything, it appears to remember this for other users, I believe. However, in our Policy, we have the following enabled: User Config / Administrative Templates / Start Menu and Taskbar: "do not display any custom toolbars in the taskbar" ... whether that also blocks it, I don't know - a combination of the both seems to!
