Oh well Vger we are of a similar age although I am 3 years older than you ....oops there goes my street cred (if ever I had one). Seems we were geeks before the word was thunked up :>) They were great days, I got involved with amateur radio aged 13 and life went downhill after that. Time spent in the RN Signal School didn't help. All the services were offloading their old radio equipment and some of it was available in places like Proops in Tottenham Court Road for pennies - unless they understood what it was for. Became disheartened with the move to commercialism without the knowledge - radio out of a box didn't seem like fun but it did get alot of people on the air. That is what computers are about nowadays - buy a box fully loaded, plug in and away you go. As in the early days there are people who know how to take a box apart and find out what is wrong with it - and charge for the privelege. Viger - thanks for the response I have been around so long that I can remember the days of plonking telephones handsets into funny rubber thingys before real modems came along. There have been a number of things I had drummed into me shouldn't talk about - then find they make films about them (WindTalkers and Family of Spies). So, I am going to keep an open mind about this business with Web Mania. I have been involved with them on and off for over 5 years and never really had problems with them. The one problem I did have was in loading a website written in NetObjects Fusion, which the staff there didn't seem to have heard of, so probably my fault. Have emailed Begby Traynors who are the liquidators and also spoken to Nominet as well as emailing Nathan for an update, so will sit back until the end of week and let people get things sorted out - especially if Nathan is sure the facilities at YorHost - which appears to have a location in an industrial estate locally. regards

the story was that web mania were moving their servers from a london location to york after there had been problems with the equipment - when my site didn't come back on a quick email to them and it was put back on so no further thoughts. have been bombarded with emails to renew a couple of registrations and got round to it yesterday but was unable to make the transaction online - so did it direct on faster payment from my fonebank facility and advised by email. have been unable get an acknowledgement of the payments. So... having made the payments have I put the money into a liquidators account and will not the renewals ?? whilst there may be a few out there gloating at the web mania demise, may I remind you that people will probably have lost their jobs over this, even if it is the odd one or two. What am I saying - I have paid for something to what may be a liquidated company, will I get the service or my money back ??
