Just wondered if anyone can help me. This is a third party management software used to store information about our students placements. It's such an old software which can only run on Windows 98. It's now becoming quite unreliable and it seems there's isn't an upgrade around. I understand the company that made the software has gone burst. Can anyone please let me know how and what sort of management software you currently use for this purpose? Basically, WEMS stores Students' details in database1, Company info in database2 and Placement record in database3 for our Year 11s students(Connexions). Can SIMS.net successfully handle this? Any ideas welcome. Thanks.

Just had a look at the HP Array Config Utility on this server, it looks like this; SMART ARRAY 6i CONTROLLER IN EMBEDDED SLOT + Parallel SCSI Array A - (LOGICAL DRIVE 1, 69459MB RAID 1+0) *72.8GB Parallel SCSI Drive @ Port 2: SCSI ID 0 *72.8GB Parallel SCSI Drive @ Port 2: SCSI ID 1 + Parallel SCSI Array B WITH SPARE - (LOGICAL DRIVE 2, 138919MB RAID 5) *72.8GB Parallel SCSI Drive @ Port 2: SCSI ID 2 *72.8GB Parallel SCSI Drive @ Port 2: SCSI ID 3 *72.8GB Parallel SCSI Drive @ Port 2: SCSI ID 4 *72.8GB Parallel SCSI Drive @ Port 2: SCSI ID 5 (SPARE) Now can I possibly replace the drives on SCSI ID 2 to SCSI ID 5 without the need for complete OS re-install? @Cybernerd Cheers for your response - it's time to dig in to find what the RAID config is, I don't even have the Smart CDs or System CDs for this server, will have a look on HP's. I'll let you know my findings. Ta.

Thanks for your suggestion, I've actually gone through the volume to clear up un-needed mp3 etc - initially there was only 13GB left. Music and Art teachers are always guilty of this one!

I wonder if someone can help me please. My file server is an HP Proliant DL380 G4 server with 6 x 72.3GB Ultra Wide320SCSI (the previous NM set this up) with C: drive = 70GB and E: drive = 135 GB, the staff home folder lives on the E: volume. With just 20GB free space left on E:, I'm thinking of increasing the disk subsystem to 146GB x 6 drives rather than getting a brand new server. Now my question is, will I need to re-install the OS (Windows 2K3 Standard) to achieve this purpose or do I just replace the disks one after the other - straight through? Any other advice is welcome. Thanks a lot.

I'm assuming you'll be de-commissioning the present exhange server, so here goes; 1) Install new Exchange server in the same site as the old one. Such that both servers appear in the Exchange System Manager (ESM) under the Administrative Group at the end of the install. 2) Open up the Active Directory Users and Computers, right click on a User and select Exchange Tasks...then select Move Mailbox - You should see both the old and new exchange servers here, so click to move the mailbox, the amount of time for the move will depend on the size of the mailbox. 3) Repeat Step 2 for all other Users. At this point, users will not notice anything if you have done everything rightly as above. E-mails should still be sent and received as usual. Now, it's over to the task of moving the following roles normally held by the first exchange server in an administrative group; 1) System folders, such as those holding calendar free/busy information. 2) The Recipient Update Service (RUS). 3) The Routing Group Master role. 4) Any Exchange connectors that are homed on, or have an endpoint on, the server to be decommissioned. Because of time, I will continue this post later on, please let me know when you have performed the steps above.

I'm trying to import the new Year 7s into AD and also create a corresponding home folder, I wonder if anyone has got a script that does this - the username format for each student will be "305FLastName". - Where "305" is constant, F= First Letter of First Name and LastName= Last name.
