How strange.. firstly the R attribute means read-only. In Windows it doesn't really do anything for folders, only for files. In fact, if you unset the read only property on a folder through the GUI, it doesn't seem to change the attribute. You can change it in a command prompt with the attrib command, but before tackling that I would try going up to the u: drive, right clicking on the "students" folder, choosing properties and clearing the read-only checkbox. Then choose apply to folder, subfolders and files and click OK. It looks like your affected subfolders and files may have been copied in from a read-only medium like a CDR and retained their read-only status which may upset your Appletoshes.

Sanako do sell a software-only product (not the lab100 or lab300, but presumably a similar name). From what the rep said you buy it on a site-license basis and you just need a standard headset for each PC.

From what I can see WUDSS allows you to create iSCSI targets and R2 doesn't. On top of that there's all the usual customised mmc gubbins.

You could try restoring it using this free sysinternals tool. I'd be happy to know how you get on as well having never used it in anger: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/AdRestore.mspx (btw, the time that these deleted objects are available for restoration, known as the tombstone lifetime, varies but should be at least 60 days)

I have no experience of CBC, but don't be shy about going with an existing IWB supplier if you are happy with the quality of their work and can't be sure of another company's. You can always ask them for example sites if you get no responses on here and if they can't provide any then think carefully. I was once cornered into using an IWB install company I wasn't altogether happy about (I don't name them here obviously) and it was pretty disastrous :/ It was a learning experience though and I think I will make better decisions in the future, even if initially they aren't popular with management.

Legally you are allowed to record from the TV for the purposes of "timeshifting". I wouldn't even say UKNova is in a grey area - your tv license doesn't give you carte blanche to use the content however you want and distributing it on torrent sites is almost certainly not allowed. UKNova play fair though and try to keep their infringements within the spirit of the law which I think would protect them from too much unwanted attention. The reason a lot of content from the BBC (say) isn't available online is that they don't make it and are only licensed to broadcast it in certian specific ways. UKNova's rationale is that they only distribute stuff which has no commercial alternative (i.e. not sold on DVD etc.) and so "nobody loses", which to you or I seems fair enough, but legally wouldn't stand up. UPDATE: When I try it times out loading the programme, straight after the ident. Possibly our LEA have blocked the video source or there are a lot of people hitting it at once.

You can use an @ instead of an = if you like. Not terribly helpful, but slightly more intuitive!

You can't force password change at next logon if "password never expires" is ticked in their account properties - the two are mutually exclusive. (I suspect Windows uses the password expiry feature to trigger the requirement to change at logon.)

I don't think the rules are that specific. The guidelines /do/ say that you shouldn't use laptops as a replacement for desktops for users of display screen equipment. We've upgraded 3 of our presenta boards. They basically send you out a USB activote hub, which emulates a full size activboard so the drivers work correctly. It also looks like a magic egg, which is nice.

I agree - a degree isn't necessary for a technician post, but then you need a degree for data entry nowadays! At least this job only has it as a desirable.

Have you switched off the graphics acceleration as well as the 2 fixes? Graphics acceleration is usually the problem in Pro/D. The other 2 fixes have sorted problems for us recently although it seems fairly random which one is required to repair it.

Yes superfletch/dmccoy, I wasn't very clear... sql ports and smb share ports are both required. I'm not sure how the docstorage files are delivered exactly as I believe they are encrypted and not with standard windows/ntfs encryption, so they may not be served up directly over smb.

I would also try connecting to the actual console of the print server when you have a print job stuck on it. We have quite a few HP printers installed which give us a message box on the server: =========== The print spooler was unable to connect to your printer. This can be caused by your printer being turned off, the cable being unplugged, or being connected to a VPN, which will block your access to your local network. Your document will print when the printer becomes available. =========== If you OK the message, the job comes out! The message only displays on the console session though so if you're usually connected via a normal remote desktop session you won't see it. VNC/Dameware etc. will show it and connecting via "mstsc /console /v:servername" might too. If your problem is the same as ours I suspect the fix is to use a standard tcp/ip port instead of an hp one, but haven't got round to testing the theory yet.

There is no SIMS server application as such - when people talk about their SIMS server they're basically talking about a SQL server hosting their SIMS database and support files. SIMS.net also has a document management server which complicates things slightly. That does run as a service, but needn't be on the same server as your SQL Server. My understanding is that for most SIMS use, the SIMS.net client is writing pretty much directly to SQLServer.

The groups haven't been changed from security groups to distribution groups by any chance have they?

We fixed this when we came across the problem by using the sysinternals strings command to search for xls files containing a particular string (i imagine it was .swf). You can just leave it running against your pupil user areas. Because it's only looking at xls files and the spreadsheets they make tend to be tiny it's pretty quick.
