1. Thanks for your feedback on this guys, really appreciate it. After taking onboard your comments, speaking to a few people and some testing I've found that if I disable it at workstation/client level and leave it enabled on the servers seems to work best in my situation. I'll do a bit more work on it over the summer. Thanks again,
2. Hi all, My ISP has recommended I disable IPV6 due to recent issues where there internet filtering package isn't picking up users on our network, therefore - they say not being able to apply them to a filtering group. Is this normal to disable IPV6? I wouldn't say I have it configured - it's just enabled. My DHCP isn't configured to push out IPV6 addresses either. On our DC's 2008 and 2012 - "Local area connection" the IPv6 protocol is enabled and is also enabled on the rest of our servers and Windows 7 clients. DNS is showing IPV6 addresses for each of the clients along with their IPV4 address, so one of each per device. Are there other implications with disabling IPV6? I read somewhere that it could cause AD to slow down? For me to go about disabling this would it be a case of just unticking IPV6 from Local area connection properties all of our network devices Servers, workstations etc (Hopefully there would be a way to do this via script, GPO etc)? Would I need to delete the IPV6 DNS Entries for rach device so just the IPV4 addresses remain? I'd like to add that, our 6th form site is setup in just the same way with IPV6 ticked on a totally separate domain with no issues with the filtering..... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dean
3. Thanks for the reply. Time and date are correct. Anyone got any other ideas? Cheers
4. Hi there, I've been getting the error msg when trying to run Apple Configurator since the summer and it wont let me in. I'm not a massive Mac user but use the Apple Config to update the bank of laptops we have. Sounds like Apple config 2 is going to make this much easier. "Could not refresh the IOS update catalog - An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made" Ive had a good Google but there doesn't seem to be many other similar problems theres a few for "Could not refresh the IOS update catalog" but not for the "An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made" maybe this is a standard Mac error. Im running OSX Yosemite on the Mac mini with all the latest system updates etc. Wonder if I need to add the URL that the Apple Config. uses to contact Apple servers? I've had a quick look in the certificates too but nothing obvious (to me)! Would be greatful if anyone could shed any light or might have seen something similar. Cheers in advance.
5. Just tried installing as domain admin and it runs now, looks like some kind of mandatory profile problem, will have a read back through this tread. All users - pupils and teachers load a mandatory profile, if theres anything I should know about running this sw in this environment would be grateful for any advice. Thanks in advance,
6. Wow sounds like you've all been having problems with this for a while, just started using it at our place and the problems have already started! I've installed ECS service on the server and with the MSI's that the ECS service creates I've installed the Administrator Dashboard successfully and the server is showing in the admin dashboard. When I come to install the Invigilator Dash it looks to install fine but when I come to launch the program from the desktop sc I get the attached error (see attached screenshot) ECS, Administrator, Invigilator and player dashboards are all on the same network and all ports are available to these. I have tried re-installing the ECS service on a different server and I've also re-installed the Invigilator Dash to try and resolve the issues. Also made sure the PC has visual C++ and framework 4 installed. Anyone got any ideas? or seen this before? I've been on the phone to them twice, they asked for a screenshot I emailed one over, on the 2nd phone call I found they lost my email so doesn't give me much confidence that 3rd line support will be ringing me anytime soon! Thanks in advance.
7. We've just started using it, as you say the GPO's are a bit time consuming to get right, almost there with it now just need to block "sign in and sync" "sign-in-to-your-account" how did you get around this? Our Smoothwall blocks the gmail webmail side of things but the "sign in and sync" is still allowed. Also had a quick go at blocking "chrome://" and "chrome://signin" but no joy, and there doesn't seem to be any settings in GPO for anything "sync".
8. Hi, Can anyone recommend a website/company where I can get decent replacement laptop batteries at not too silly price. Decent compatible ones would be ideal so not paying over the odds for the original parts. We kept getting ones from the local shop that just didn't work, oh and if they are in the uk too even better. Thanks
9. Brill, thanks for your reply, they look ideal, though a bit pricey, I will have a look into some other Hp's and see if they have the drivers online. Thanks alot.
10. Hi, Just looking for laptop recommendations which could be downgraded to XP. Has anyone managed downgrade a laptop recently to XP Pro with out any problems? Some laptops just wont run xp, whether its the drivers aren't available or the SATA on the BIOS wont let you change to IDE mode etc etc. Were looking at getting some laptops for the next school year for our Art dept to run Adobe CS4, Internet browsing and general network use. Laptops will be connected to network via wireless or good old fashioned plugged in! Thanks, Dean
