If you have already configured the default gateway on the interface there is no need in re-entering the configuration you will just need to enter the ip helper-address- the ip address where you want the broadcasts to be forwarded i.e DHCP Server.
The command will bring up the entire configuration entered and running on the Cisco IOS including IP Helper. A more specific command to use would be .
No the running configuration is local only if it is not showing it means it has not been configured on that switch.

Hello. in the access layer if you had a 48/24/whatever port switch would you use all the ports on that switch?
Also which one do you prefer and why. 24 port or 48 port switches?

As part of my college project we have to design a network for a college and the network in question is to include 1 workstation in each 'normal' teaching room.
I was wondering how many Ethernet drops real classrooms have and how many you would include for expansion e.t.c

Interesting.... the cable seems very likely. Are these on VLAN's or something maybe someone has changed the switch configuration.............
Have you checked the DHCP server see what's happening.
It really does depend on your organisation and there is no right or wrong way of what to use VLAN's for but work out what you want the VLAN's to achieve. Definetly one for VOIP though.
There are two types of VLAN implementation:
Local VLAN's- Local to that switching closet.
End-to-end VLAN's- organisation wide.
Cisco now recommend using Local VLAN's there are advantages and disadvantage to both along with best practices. One reason for the change is Layer 3 distribution.
I tend to go for the functionality route.
How about:
VLAN for IT roos
VLAN for Library
VLAN for administration and staff room
VLAN for sixth form
VLAN for humanities
VLAN for .....

VLAN sounds good. Don't forget the ACL's to block the VLAN from being routed to the rest of the network/VLAN's :-)
I haven't read the other thread but they probably set the RADIUS up for authentication.
As long as the router/UTM provides the required throughput and interface card you will be fine.
A Cisco 2600XM should be ok with a 100MB connection, that said if your running the firewall/IPS/VPN combined with a high amount of users....!!!!
VLAN's are not the answer to every problem BUT they are better than no security.

There are various ways to mitigate VLAN hopping. As quoted by Cisco:

Mitigating VLAN hopping attacks requires several modifications to the VLAN configuration. One of the more important elements is to use dedicated VLAN IDs for all trunk ports. Also, disable all unused switch ports and place them in an unused VLAN. Set all user ports to nontrunking mode by explicitly turning off DTP on those ports

The general rule is to put Extended ACL's closest to the source and standard ACL's closest to the destination.
