  1. Thanks for the replies guys. sorry to be slow getting back to you, and yes Vikpaw, you have hit the nail on the head (and thanks for getting to the essence of my rather vague question!). The problem has now become more eiviident as the Headteacher is now frusrated that the school's convention for staff ID composition have not been followed and now wants to change them all, which has a knock on-effect on ParentPay. ParentPay are quite happy to edit their end but I am now wondering what else (Show my Homework, Evolve, Sam Leaning, Groupcall etc) which are administered by various staff. Actually, I am taking this as an opportunity to resolve a bunch of issues and get more hygienic routines in place for the school and am working with the (new and untrained) SIMS manager on some algorithms to deal with ID management. Want to cover end to end, creation to retirement of IDs and deal with any Data Protection compliance at the same time.
  2. Thanks Forkies Bit of a minefield this isn't it. My network manager did explain the difficulties because of the attachment to other data and the number of errors thrown up. Capita are not on the ball with this at all are they? Just been reading the Gov Employment Practices Code where it states... 2.15.1 Establish and adhere to standard retention times for the various categories of information to be held on the records of workers and former workers. Base the retention times on business need taking into account relevant professional guidelines. 2.15.2 Anonymise any information about workers and former workers where practicable. 2.15.3 If the holding of any information on criminal convictions of workers is justified, ensure that the information is deleted once the conviction is ‘spent’ under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. 2.15.4 Ensure that records which are to be disposed of are securely and effectively destroyed. .... how manys schools follow this I wonder?
  3. Hi Steve. Staff users, things like address, next of kin, DOB etc. Much of which is likely to be out of date. In any case can never assumed to be right. Laurence
  4. Hi Does anyone know the rules for keeping user details on SIMS re Data Protection? A revision of staff ID rules at school has precipitated a discussion about how to delete users from SIMS. Most think is not possible to delete old users, but I think this is a data protection issue as we have details far beyond the recommended 6 years to clear any reporting requirements. But if there is no method of removing old users, then are most schools vulnerable to Data Protection contravention? Any thoughts?
  5. Hi, we tried to set-up a school with display over wireless about 4 years ago, but really struggled to get smooth video so went for small form factor mounted on the projectors, then used wireless keyboards or splashtop to present. However, we've been experimenting again and have been pleasantly surprised so far, the technology appears to have moved on. We have tried a range of miracast devices, and I'll happily share the details when we have finished our testing, but, our biggest issue is not being able to change the device name. Windows Wireless Display Adapter app always has the device settings greyed out. Anyone know what's up with that?
  6. Hi Have a problem with staff codes not passing to Parent Pay. Seems the school is inconsistent in the issuing of staff codes, which means that we have teachers with staff ID codes that appear on the timetable but when I list staff using the staff search screen I have teaching staff without ID Codes. HR say they never issue codes, but we have non teaching staff who never appear on the timetable who have been issued codes. I'm happy to sit with them to correct things but can someone point me in the right direction please? Would be much appreciated. Many thanks Laurence
  7. Thanks Guys. Just what I needed to know. What I was after was the ability to talk over a headset to a class, parts of a class, individuals while I am watching what they are doing at my PC. NetSupport looks like a good starting point. Cheers
  8. Hi All I have used a good range of monitoring software, iTalc, Impero, Tutor etc. But, what I would really like to do is have this kind of control and be able to communicate with the class/groups/individuals with mic/headsets. I know that hardware based solutions are available, but I know of at least one company that was working on a software based solution. I can't remember their name, it was a few years ago, but I would imagine that they were not the only company on the case. Is there anything out there that will do the job? Thanks
