  1. I solved the same problem by upgrading to 1.5.18 as suggested (thanks). Don't take this the wrong way, but shouldn't the Edugeek download package always reflect the latest Joomla package ? This probably shows my lack of understanding, so sorry in advance.
  2. When I get time, I will upload from development pc and see what happens. Not sure if the default permissions on the server will run it.
  3. I can connect via FTP and just tried what you suggested, but no luck. I still get the Restricted access message. The FTP client looked like it was changing the permisions, but when I checked the files, they hadn't changed. I'm thinking of building it on my pc and uploading, but not sure if I will still run into the same problems. Maybe the helpdesk will contact me soon. Thanks for your help
  4. I've got a similar problem to that above. I've uploaded the package and created the database. I then pointed my browser at the install.php file and I get an access denied message, which I assume is a permissions problem. It works OK on my WAMP development setup and I've setup up these sites before on APACHE. It appears that LGFL use IIS on which I'm poking and hoping using a PLESK control panel. I can see how to change permissions folder by folder, but not sure which user in the list to select or if there is a simpler way. Sorry for being so thick.
  5. Is a specific policy required for Fronter (and signed off by parents) before rolling out to pupils ? If so, is there a template anywhere ?
  6. Briiliant, so simple. I'll try it next week. First the spreadsheet and then get the DB running
  7. I have a spreadsheet of student names and other details. Can I use a bar code scanner to read their ID card bar code and get the relevant record highlighted in the spreadsheet? No data input required. I don't have the scanner to play around with.

    Myspace on Macs

Our Media dept have a suite of Macs and Myspace doesn't work on them, which is rather inconvenient for them as their lesson plans are based upon accessing the site. Apart from switching the class to a Windows classroom, do we have any other options ? Is IE for Mac worth installing as it appears a trifle dated ? I did try installing the IE tab for Firefox, but got an incompatibility message (with the OS).
  10. Last week I was asked to unblock the site urgently because the teachers depend upon it. It became blocked at a 'higher' level than the school. I certainly hadn't changed anything. I came in today (part time) and there was a bit of a panic and I had to block it straightaway. No reasons given - JFDI.
  11. I work in a sixth form college with over 2000 students, so about 1000 girls aged between 16-19 years. About 4 years ago there was a rash of ultra short skirt wearing. There is there is no uniform worn and the only dress code is for it to be sensible. Well the boys inadvertantly put paid to the short skirts. They filmed up the skirts using phones and made a video set to "The Stripper" and posted it on the web. There was some sort of contest to see who could identify the girls. All hell let loose with loads of parental complaints, but the senior management team more or less restated the policy and told the parents to take charge of their kids. I may have the video somewhere, but I think it quickly got deleted off the web (if that is ever possible). Maybe I should dig it out and make it available for enrolment in September as a warning to the newbies.
  12. cms.lgfl.net - Support Docs These guides might help. They helped me in my quest to decipher the system.
  13. I think I read somewhere here about conflicts with JEvents Calendar and templates. I want to use the colorful template from Themebase but it will not allow the calendar editor to open from the front end. I switch to another template and it's OK. The template uses template.css which was referred to in another thread, but I couldn't resolve the conflicts (not clever enough). Any help gratefully received.
  14. I found it very interesting this morning. A lot the information provided seems to go to the head who gives it to the ICT Co-ord but I never see it. I think I might have a few questions for them even though I'm only in school for a day a week.
  15. We're getting access to Fronter soon. The ICT co-ord and another teacher are going to a training seesion soon. The school secretary has been asked to go to look after the admin side of things, which has freaked her out a bit as she doesn't have time for any more work. What is involved in the admin side ?I'm only around for a few hours a week, but have sorted their webssite and LGFL stuff. Is the admin more suited to a techie ?
  16. Is it possible for the administrator to import a csv file of contact details of staff into OWA such that it appears in everybody's contact list in OWA? I just mean the staff room id and their phone number within school/college. We would then want a member of the admin staff to keep it up to date without them having any login access to the email server.
  17. If we get one each for the kids to play with, maybe they won't notice the teachers are on strike.
  18. I used to listen to The Arrow on my DAB, but the station went off air. They used to have an excellent programme that played 1960/70s rock on at 9pm each night. Planet Rock's 9am connection competition is a challenge every weekday morning.
  19. Mine's some good old rock music Planet Rock, the UK's Classic Rock DAB Digital Radio Station.
  20. As many on the forum appear to be in the NW of England, I wondered if the local news has reported on this woman - Rosie - who is close to completing her run around the world. She'll be somewhere around Lancaster (guess) at the moment. Rosie
  21. I think we had money allocated for Molenet, which is an er innovative project. Or is there a separate thread on that one ? Molenet - Home
  22. I should have added that when I got it looking all whizzy with help from here, senior management noticed the screen - it's not in the foyer and not on their day to day routes. I just did it basically. Yes, you've guessed - can it be changed such that ...... etc etc etc. NO, NO, NO it's alright as it is. Just give me the info and I'll update it. Such a lovely box of tricks, I could spend all day playing with it and the templates would be changing every minute to cater for everybody's wishes. I ask you.
  23. Forgot to reply on this. I installed the latest version of software and had a quick chat with support, who sorted it out extremely quickly. Thanks to him.
  24. Are you moving onto a Windows based server ?
  25. Thanks, will do when I'm in school later today.
