  1. is it still not worth trying to rebuild one and seeing if it solves the problem??
  2. try rebuilding the PC. could be a buggy update or something has gone wrong with the registry hack you tried to other machines.
  3. The screen will be used in a meeting room in our school VGA is required for hooking up laptops for said meetings and we also need an hdmi input for an Apple TV and the ability to play videos from a USB stick would be good too. Cost wise i was hoping for around 500 max so the Cello TV Cache suggested could be perfect for what we need. It does need to be idiot proof as its used by teachers and management (dangerous I know)
  4. Hi, We are looking for a large screen tv (approx 46") with a VGA input but are struggling to find anything suitable that does not cost the earth. Does anyone know of a brand/model at all? Thanks J
  5. working here too. not sure of speed, but everything seems accessible.
  6. It's all back up and running now!
  7. Hi Nick, I'm uploading that now for you. Jonathan.
  8. Fantastic. Really appreciate this and so do the English Dept. Thanks Jon
  9. Hi there, Wondering if anyone would be able to upload the following programmes on to the Exchange. Seamus Heaney : a Life in pictures - BBC 4 - 10pm Kirsty Wark Talks to - BBC 4 - 10.40pm Something to write home about : Seamus Heaney - BBC 4 - 11.10pm Our system took a nose dive that night which was handy...... Thanks Jon
  10. unfortunately AppleTV's were updated halfway through the life cycle and now have to be connected to a HDCP compliant device. This means both the Lindy device (we used them and now have a load spare!) and the startech device will not work. Kanex is your only option unfortunately though it does work great. Air server is only good if PC's are on wireless too, but that is not always a good thing depending on the size of school and what media teachers are showing in class. We tried it and it failed quite drastically, but each to their own.
  11. Fantastic, many thanks for this Pete, Jonathan.
  12. Hi There, Just wondering if anyone had a copy on their 24-7 of the Martin Luther King documentary broadcast last night, Wednesday 28th, on BBC2 at 9pm. It would be very much appreciated. Thanks Jonathan.
  13. are you going to a projector? or a large display? I would agree with playing around with the resolution settings on the AppleTV. We have a number of the units and certain projectors Epson X9's dont like the native signal too much so we need to downsize it a bit. Play with the 50/60Hz freq options too. While airserver is good everything needs to be via wireless which isnt always the best solution for everyone.
  14. We were advised not to use compressed air as it can push dust further into the projector rather than blowing it all out. We use a handheld dyson here, not cheap i know, but it lasts a good 15 minutes on a charge and recharges in 4 hours so i can get round our 180+ projectors in a couple of days.
  15. the licensing is the sticky point at the moment. According to the bbc website "... if they have taken out a licence with the Educational Recording Agency ("ERA") schools, colleges, universities and other educational establishments CAN record and access recordings of BBC Content for educational purposes under the terms of that ERA licence." I've attempted to contact the BBC to see if that means we could use a YouView box to stream the iPlayer content into our ClickView server. Will see if i get any reply back at all.
  16. I tried it, but found it a right pain in the backside to get anything off the 24-7 into our main system. Nothing seemed to import and it kept crashing the Library manager software. I'm thinking of heading down the youview box route, its not as complete as the 24-7 system, but its a heck of a lot cheaper....
  17. yes if a capacitor has blown chances are the top will be rounded as it has bulged. just compare to other capacitors on the MB to see which ones are different.
  18. Hi, We get this issue too, it is worth having a look inside the screen yourself. Chances are that a capacitor has blown and to be honest if you can use a soldering iron you can replace it without too many issues at all. Inside a screen there isnt much so finding a faulty component is relatively easy. We had a 46" Samsung screen that went downhill, literally took £1.39 for replacement capacitors and 30 mins and it was able to be fixed. Jon
  19. Hi Thanks for this, however i can't seem to find either programme on the Exchange... Jon
  20. Hi, Wondering if anyone can help with a couple of programmes please. Panorama : North Korea undercover, broadcast on BBC1 on Monday 15th April, but also repeated on Friday 0:20 on BBC2 And also Israel : facing the Future broadcast on bbc 2 on Wednesday the 17th at 21:00. Our system took a good nose dive over the past week and i'm not tasked with trying to find the missing programmes! Thanks Jon
  21. We use a number of appleTV's in our school and have hit upon the same issues. We take the optical out of the apple tv and put it through and optical to rca converter (about 30 quid) and feed this to an amplifier that is in the room. Works well for us
  22. We are looking at rolling out appleTV's to most classrooms in our school. We currently have around 30 units out there at the moment. Though Apple TVs can be a bit flaky at times and can decide that they dont want to play with the wireless all the time. We also use some of the Kanex adpaters as linked above and we also use a lindy switch which takes an hdmi input (apple tv) and vga + audio feed from the pc and sends the output down VGA to the projector and gives an audio feed for an amp. Another option for the optical audio is to get a optical to rca adapater, about 20 quid off ebay. To remove as many HDCP issues the best option is to connect the AppleTV direct to the projectors hdmi port if it has one. We have stayed away from airserver as our PC's are wired and we wouldn't want them to be pulling everything over the wireless.
  23. Hi, Does anyone have a copy of Inside death row with Trevor McDonald episode 1 broadcast last night at 10:35pm on ITV. Our system crashed and we have lost the last few minutes of the programme. Many thanks Jon
  24. amazing. Many thanks for this! Lots of happy biology teachers now! Jon
