Helpful guide! It is somewhat similar to 2008 but it's not as pretty. Otherwise, what about a program that will truly max the hell out of the server with a "this is where you're at now, this is the server's max output in these categories." comparison?

What do you guys use to benchmark a server? We have an image (jpeg, gif) server cluster whose CPU and memory are far from being maxed out but we aren't so sure on the hard drive and network connection. Any recommendations? They are all Server 2003. EDIT: Or maybe even a configuration in Server 03 in PerfMon (WAY more used to Server 08's deliciously clean interface)

I'm trying to create a number of mapped drives for our company's users. Being a total newbie to this, I decided to keep it as simple as possible with a batch file. When I log into their machines, I get it right away. This seems to only be happening in our Windows 7 machines. Even log produces this error: Booting into safe mode works though....

Back from a little hiatus. I enabled Network discovery and file/printer sharing through a GPO. Waited a while for it all to propagate and the same issue remains. Poop. EDIT: I retract my statement, everything shows up on Network places. However, NOD32 Admin Console still doesn't show every machine. I even rebooted the server.

I know it's the Windows firewall blocking me and a few other machines from showing up on the Windows Network (just Network under Win7). How do I unblock it? I want to install NOD32 on these machines and unless they show up, it won't really work. =/

Auto approve was disabled at first install, forgot about that. Re-enabled it and now to wait for the hours it will take to push it all. Easy fix = me happy.

Two weeks ago I created a thread about issues with WSUS not updating itself or other clients. I hope this isn't a repeat of it because I just installed it on a different server and still not able to push out updates to clients. They report in, tell me the correct IP addresses, what's installed, and other fun facts. However, if I try to manually update any Win7 or XP workstation, they tell me they are up to date. The latest updates date back from early August. If I check with the WSUS server, it tells me that said machines are missing some 30-60 updates (server 03, 08, XP, 7). Why do the workstations say that they are updated when they clearly aren't?

Found the solution, very simple too. Open regedit and go to the following key : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup\"wYukonInstalled"=dword:00000001 Change the value from 1 to 0 Removed the old install with the install EXE (works both ways) and worked like a charm. Finally able to uninstall it....only to come across a new issue. I am trying to "Use the existing Windows Internal Database on this computer," and every time it tries to connect to it, it fails. It tells me the "SQL Server does not exist or access is denied."

Sadly, no such luck with the MS Scee bit thing. And I heard the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility tends to leave collateral damage, removing things I don't want to.

I learned that the hard way, does this mean that the server running WSUS can't have anything else in it? Such as AD, DNS, DHCP, and File Server? We were going to use a new machine for all that, since the old one was getting sluggish. Would that also explain why it failed on that one day? Regarding the second part, how do you remove WSUS using ms#SCEEE bits and the MSICUU2? I tried to run SEE_10msi and all I get is: "Directly installing Windows Internal Database is not supported. Refer to the product documentation for more information."

Well, I tried to remove WSUS this morning but before that, I ran dcpromo and put AD in it yesterday (the other server had that as well). It worked, I restarted, and tried to reinstall it again. The moment I ran the installer, I get the same window asking me to uninstall it again. I try to do so and it tells me an error occurred. So I can't install it, nor can I uninstall it. What the hell is going here??

For some reason, everything came crashing down on August 3rd. Checked the error long and here's what I got (all at the same time): - Self-update is not working. - Some client computers have not reported back to the server in the last 30 days. 7 have been detected so far. - The Reporting Web Service is not working. - The Server Synchronization Web Service is not working. - The Client Web Service is not working. - The SimpleAuth Web Service is not working. - The DSS Authentication Web Service is not working. What in the world would cause this to happen? It's a lot of errors...:confused:

We are doing a small little test run of Eset's NOD32. I love the AV, it's great. I got it to work on the server and it was able to pull up a list of nearly all the machines in the domain (only one - small company). Problem is, a lot of these machines have the wrong IP or are just plain missing (such as mine) from the list. How do I fix this? I tried to Deploy NOD32 to the machine that has my IP but it fails to do anything of the sort.

Our email has a queue system that splits email as 1 (priority), 5 (medium), 10 (bulk). Problem is, a lot of clients put down fake emails/names that have no destination. We set it up as after 24 hours, the email should be deleted. Problem is, it stops trying to send the emails after 24 hours but they still remain in the queue, overflowing the damn thing with tens/hundreds of gigs. After scouring the internet for more info (and failing), I figured that either two things can happen: - I post on forums asking for more help - I post on forums asking for the Microsoft Support Incident and how the process works (can this be part of the technet package?) I tried to get my dumbass of a co-worker to understand this, he just doesn't want to look bad. You see, 5 months ago (before I started here), he suggested everyone to start upgrading and to only buy PCs with Win7. Idiot forgot to overlook a lot of things such as getting Roaming profiles to work on a half and half environment (Xp & 7), current software, our protection software.

I know the thing is not compatible with Win7, and as soon as I saw that disc, I knew it was destined for failure. Sadly, my boss and co-worker want to get this stupid thing running on a Server 2003 (to manage it) and a bunch of Win7 machines we have in the office. Anyone have an idea on how to make the magic happen? My co-worker suggested to "poke holes" and open up ports to get the workstations and server to talk. A work of genius.

Well, I found the location in the GPO to exclude some folders (Desktop, My Music, and the sort). I input the folder name (Application Data; Desktop; Favorites; My Documents\My Music) and it still grabs the entire profile. What's going on?

Is it possible to let JUST the My Documents (XP) or Documents (Win7) folders roam? I don't care about links, desktop, music, videos, or anything else for that matter.

Well, currently using the ImgBurn software. It creates the ISO and an MDS file. Do I need the MDS file?

What tools do you guys use? I'm looking to convert Office 07, Win 7, Server 08, among a number of other things. Been a while since I've done this.
