  1. I've been offered a fantastic new job - had the formal offer in a letter - but they have also sent me a medical questionnaire which I am concerned about due to the job offer being subject to such. In other words, I fill it in, they look into it, and if there is something in there that doesn't meet their criteria, the job offer could potentially be withdrawn. I don't want to hand my notice in at my current job yet because of this, but I am concerned to approach my new employer and make my dilemma known. Obviously, if I hand my notice in, and then my new employer withdraws their offer, I'm up the proverbial creek. There is nothing in my medical history that concerns me, but that isn't to say it won't concern them. What should I do? Fill in the questionnaire, hand in my notice and cross my fingers; or fill in the questionnaire, then speak to my prospective employer and voice my concerns explaining that I won't be accepting the job until I know I have satisfied their requirements in regard to the questionnaire? I really don't want them to think I am being fussy, as this is a fantastic career move for me, but by the same token, I don't want to be put in a very difficult situation if things don't go as planned. I have to give 4 weeks notice at my current employer, and I won't be starting at my new place for at least 6 weeks, so I do have some leeway in the timings. Your thoughts are most welcome. What would you do?
  2. Thanks for that; I should have mentioned that it is just for me to experiment with for the short term.
  3. I am running xampp from a USB stick, no problem. I have configured the security. Now I want to install/run Joomla from the same memory stick, but how? Where do I extract the Joomla files too? How do I then install Joomla and configure phpMyAdmin?
  4. ...but you remember the name. Stupid or not.
  5. Would i5 CPU's (combined with dedicated graphics) be enough to run modern games (I'm think Call of Duty)? Wifey isn't the only one going to be using it, and if I'm going to get something half decent, I guess something capable of running games would be appropriate. Appreciate I am now probably asking for a different beast altogether of course.
  6. Looking to buy the wife a small laptop computer to replace the ageing Acer 'brick' we currently have. I don't want a netbook as I think they are just a bit too small a screen for what she does - plays Scrabble, Facebook, Kays and looking for holidays! I need a well built, fairly robust bit of kit, good screen that isn't massive, but not a 10" netbook, nice keyboard etc. Should also run Windows XP or 7 as I've struggled long and hard to familiarise her with those, so a linux based offering is not really practical. Don't need oodles of USB ports, firewire would be good, but not essential. Any recommendations please? I'd usually buy Acer or HP, but I'm so out of date on hardware spec (especially processors!) that I'm really not sure what is what these days. No real consideration given to budget at this stage, but I would suggest under around the £400 - £500 mark, less if I can get the spec. Thanks.
  7. I've just come 'back' from Linux to Windows as I got fed up trying to make things work, in particular, the sound on a mainstream manufacturer laptop - it was either off, extremely low, or on at full blast! Despite my efforts over several weeks of putting up with it, I gave up as I really don't have time to faff around. Installing Windows 7 on the laptop, save for a Nvidia driver update, it just works. I use Mac's a lot too, and whilst I 'enjoy' that OS, I think Windows 7 has a lot going for it. I wouldn't personally go back to XP now. The taskbar in 7 is absolutely brilliant for me.
