  11. Hello again. Workstations XP pro sp3 Server 2008r2 When any of the pupils logoff a message comes up saying that its syncronising files with the server...but its all the profiles on the workstation and it takes ages. The servers were upgraded from 2003 to 2008r2 about 4 months ago. the workstations were taken of the old domain and put on to the new domain. I think they started doing this sync when they started on the new domain. Is there some setting on the servers to stop this or is something I missed when I created the new domain Should I have deleted all the old profiles on the workstations ? Ta John
  12. Hello again I normally use the free Active User Manager which has been great ....... but its having problems creating bulk user folders since I moved over to using our new servers I think its about time to purchase some software to do the job. What do others use to manage their AD Ta John
  13. I used the vbs script from alunmjones and it worked. I added a welcome message at the beginning of the script to check it was the vbs script and not a client side extension that was doing the deed. Dead chuffed it worked:rolleyes: Thanks everyone
  14. Thanks all for the quick reply I did a full system and files backup of the server using Microsoft Backup Utility that is saved as a 35 gig .bkf file. The idea of using it to restore another test machine sounds good. Ta John
  15. Hello....Just trying to help our datamanager........ She accidently deleted a class/set file a week ago and asked for my help:confused: I have a complete backup copy(bkf) of the cmis before she done the damage. Is there any way of getting that data that she deleted back off the backup (bkf) file without needed to purchase a bkf retrieval program Ta John
  16. This sounds too good to be true. I will give it a go Ta John
  17. Because I have not setup the default domain printer :eek:yet... If the pupils want to use a printer they have to do it the long way by "Add Printer" \\server1\ etc etc I have discovered that there is not as much printing waste as there was before. I can only assume that this is because the lazy pupils (who usually print rubbish) cannot be bothered to add a printer. Since the problem there is hardly any waste at all......
  18. Tried using "Preferences" on the Domain Policy to add the printer but as it is XP workstations they need to have a couple of additional files installed for the preferences to work:eek: I didnt know that until tday. So I will give it another go tomorrow Another thing is ...I dont think the server is set up as a print server:eek: Dont know if that makes any difference... Need to go on a course me thinks:( Ta John
  19. Pathway for shortcuts were wrong. Once they were pointed in the correct direction it all worked ta john:D
  20. Thanks for that The clients shortcut does not work. It seems that I need to reconfigure some client files eg What are client files? Facility is not installed on standalone machines, instead the main application is installed on a server and each client has a set of local files that are required in order to use the Facility. The client files that are required on each client machine, or in each roaming profile, are: A dsn file A cdb file A shortcut to the Facility application on the server A shortcut to the ePortal web address A local user configuration file – the cmis.ini file A Facility configuration file - the admin.ini or cmisadmin.ini file During the installation process these files should have been created on the server and placed in a folder called ‘client files’. This folder can be copied and placed onto each client machine in the appropriate location. Or they can be created on a client machine and copied to each of the other clients that require access to Facility. It is important that users have full read/write access to this folder. THINK...... I WILL JUST DO A CALL TO SERCO Ta John
  21. I found instructions on the SERCO site but I amm a bit confused. Seemingly you need to create a new ODBC and a DSN files to make the connection Has anyone done this that can help me Thanks John
  22. Thanks......but it seems that there is a pdf on the serco website that explains how to do it Ta John
