About kissofdeath

Personal Information

  • Biography
I've only been working in as an ICT Technician since March 2010 so learning as I go.
Worked as a CAD drafter for 14 years using AutoCAD, Microstation and then inteligent packages such as PDS and Smartplant. Aswell as a few others along the way.
I used to get fed up with waiting for the IT dept. to come and sort out my problems so started to work out how to fix it myself.
I worked for a few years doing CAD support inbetween drafting jobs which I loved.
Whilst having a break from work to have my two kids, I saw an advert in the local paper for a technician. I never dreamed I would get the job and feel so lucky that I did!

  1. Thanks Andy, I guess we want managed as in getting the site up and running and migrating all out stuff from the old site and someone to sort it out if it goes down. We have someone here who's pretty good at the design side of things but doesn't have the time to get the new site off the ground.
  2. Thanks for your reply, do you have any recommendations for managed hosting?
  3. Hi, We currently use Uniservity for our web site but are looking to move away from this due to the cost. We have been looking at Drupal but are unsure of who to get to host it. Any recommendations would be gratefully received. Thanks
  4. Like PP's there weren't really many computers when I was at school (I'm 34) but I have always been into gadgets and games consoles. I actually got kicked off my A level classes for poor attendence as I had discovered boys and having a social life! My mum got fed up with me being at home and got me a job with the company she worked for as a trainee CAD draught person ( I had done work experience there) and I loved it. I always picked stuff up quickly and was always asked to training new starters and graduate engineers. I did apply to transfer into the IT department there but they turned me down. When my contract came to an end the company who supplied our CAD software and support took me on to run their helpdesk. The best part of that job was when the company who turned me down had to pay me to come in as a consultant to translate drawings that I had done into another package! After various other IT/CAD jobs I gave up work for 5 years to be a stay at home mum. I saw an advert in the local paper for a ICT technician role at a local secondary school and was lucky enough to get it.
  5. I'm sure you don't bite and I look forward to getting to know you all better
  6. Hi I'm Jo and I'm slowly peeking our from behind my 9 months of lurking on this site. The user name comes from being left on my own in the office for a day after only about 2 weeks in the job and everything that could go wrong did go wrong!
