Right here we go, We used the laptops Windows XP SP3 downgrade disk, then after that install we used the driver disk to install the Prerequisite Software, System Default Settings, HP Wireless Assistant and the HP Softare Updates on the Recommended Installs. Then on the Hardware enabling drivers, we un-ticked Bluetooth, VGA and Camera drivers and installed the rest it needed. So most important of all, we did not install the Video graphic drivers the laptop needs. After smartclienting the laptop and giving it a bad shutdown during the XP loading screen, it did not loop what so ever!!! However, we did another test on another laptop after smartclienting, I installed the Video graphic drivers from the driver disk and did a bad shutdown, it then caused a consistant loop. This tells us it's the Video drivers causing this problem. Just don't install the Video drivers, leave it out. The laptop runs fine on 1024 x 768 resolution, however when scrolling down on an internet page for example, it does flicker on the screen. The kids will just have to put up with this. So yeah, don't install the VGA drivers from disk, leave them out, and problem solved!

Hi bart21, Thanks for letting us know, shame your not CC3, but we will try this right now and i will let you all know the results. We will try our own Windows XP SP2! disk and not SP3 then install the drivers from the HP Site.

We have had over 6 laptops today looping with this problem... as you can see this is getting worse. We have discovered that its looping when it gets a bad shutdown, either from a low battery or a finger to the shutdown button during windows xp loading screen. I manage to get passed the looping stage after going to F8, then F8 again for advanced options, then choosing disable automatic restart, this shows the BSOD. When i go to Enable VGA Mode, it works fine, i log in and i removed the ATI graphics from add and remove programs. After looking on System Information through the BIOS, it says the version date of the graphics is March. There is a new Graphics update for May. So i have decided to go install this onto the laptop in VGA Mode. We successfuly managed to get passed the looping with this new graphics update. However, this has not stopped the problem perminantly. We can still get this laptop to loop if we turned it off inappropriately. Not sure what to suggest at this moment in time.

We (Our tech Team) are going to do another test with these where we will build to CC3 in a different group, where there are hardly any applications being allocated. Hopefuly we can narrow down what software is causing this problem. The great thing about these laptops though, you are able to disable features through the BIOS, so easily, you don't have to go uninstalling anything! Kids can no longer use Webcams and Bluetooth I will get back to you all with our results... if there is any.

Hi Gl3nnym We did exactly what you did, downgrade to XP with disk > Install all drivers from Disk that came with laptops > Then smartclient. I guess there must be something wrong with our software on the server. But what software? Hmmm Thanks.

Unfortunetly we have no luck with this driver, still loops.

Hi Gl3nnym Great to hear your not having the same problem as we are, this is very frustrating. Could you please tell me how you went about putting CC3 onto the laptops? Did you smartclient them? I suppose you downgraded to XP first (SP3). Thanks.

Thanks for your reply SYNACK, Yes I am downloading this driver as i type. I will see what we can do after this experiment. I will reply back with the results.

Also, in response to your reply Steve, We did manage stop the rebooting and see what the BSOD said, it was just about a Page fault in Nonpaged area.

Yes, we have looked through everything on the laptops. They are cleverly designed where you can run system checks, memory, hard drive etc.. however nothing comes back saying somethings wrong. We've looked though the BIOS and have noticed you can disable items on the laptop such as webcams, bluetooth, wireless etc... but still haven't found anything that can help us.

Hi Guys/Girls We have bought a new batch of HP Compaq 615 Laptops for our school. They came with Windows 7 pre installed and we had the downgrade for XP which we put on all of them. We then smartcliented the laptops to CC3 (RM). They run fine for the first time untill one or two get given back to us saying they are looping. They loop when you get to the XP loading screen but just before a blue screen appears. We managed to find out that the error says 'Page fault in non paged area'. We have done a few tests where we enabled VGA mode, which worked and managed to get onto the CC3 log on window. After a restart, the blue screen appeared again and started to loop, to solve this all the time we had to keep enabling VGA mode. We believe it's the display drivers. We are running CC3 and a vanilla windows network, however the problem we may get is if we change this setting, would this effect the current CC3 network? Just a thought.

Hi Guys, We are in the progress of testing a new vanilla network going away from CC3. We are doing this on XP for the moment and we are at the last stages of testing before we go LIVE during the summer. We have done this on an RM ONE machine and have managed to completely create a student profile just on XP, it's extremely fast, faster than CC3 (cough). However when you log in and get to the desktop a very long error message appears. I have attached the photo of the message. Please let me know what you might think the error message meens and how we should remove this. It appears all the time when you log in. Thanks

This has been solved. The problem was due to a faulty motherboard. A loose screw was found and it must of shorted something. We had RM come in and change it with a new one.

Sorry for the long wait, its sorted now, however it wasn't me that fixed it so i cannot tell you how it was solved. Thanks for all your help with this.

Good morning, I live about 20 miles away from my family and so i wont be able to visit them to solve this problem just yet, i have the weekend to do this so do expect a reply back from me around saturday or sunday this week. I believe it is quite new because they changed from BT to SKY and ever since then they said they cannot get any internet. The IP they gave me was like 172.168.0.1 or possibly 172.168.0.3 cant quite remember the last number. Sorry im not too helpful, just not near the laptop or router at the moment. But if i could get a list of things to check for the next time i pop over there, that would be good.

I believe this is what the guys from SKY Support gave me? They told me to put in an IP address, with a gateway and a prefered DNS IP when i gave them the seriel number of the router.

There is only one laptop in the house to do this, so next time i visit i will bring my own laptop. I could not get onto a website using an IP address requested by SKY Support. Does not work with ethernet cable, same problems as wireless.

When i am near the laptop again i shall do this command for you, i will update you soon. Thanks.

The laptop had several restarts during its process and the router had a reset done to it from the reset button.

I shall try ipconfig/all when i am near the laptop, i'm at work at the moment so i will update you as i go. I didn't notice Nortan installed but i will have another look again, my family did say something about Nortan being installed. I will update you soon.

Hello all, Sorry but i'm going to be a bit vague on my explanation below as i am not with the laptop. I am having trouble with a families laptop which is connected to their SKY router. What appears to be the problem is that the laptop can find the wireless router, the green lights are on and correctly showing for a connected signal However, there is no internet. I rang up SKY support and i gave them the numbers they wanted from underneath the router and then they gave me an IP to use, with subnet mask and gateway, also including a prefered DNS IP instead of using the tick box, find automaticaly. I checked the LAN settings and made sure Auto detect is ticked and that a proxy is not being used. Also where the connection is shown on the task bar bottom right, it shows a triangle warning sign saying limited access, or verifying identity after i inputted the ip's. I turned firewall off during this and no luck. What seemed odd was, that windows updates were downloading up to 60% even though there was no internet available... and yes i tried Google and other websites to make sure its not the sites that were down. The only thing that confuses me during all this is when i ran the windows network diagnostics, Please see attachment of message. Does anyone know what i must do to solve this?
