  1. Hey, just a quick one. Does anyone know how to get rid of the blank box that usually displays a user image for the login screen? Thanks
  2. Thanks guys, I have setup an IIS server, and have decided to just use SAMBA shares instead of FTP. Just Seems like an easier way of doing things. @thepineapplehead - I don't teach the kids, I just setup so that the teachers can.
  3. hey guys, I have been tasked with setting up some of the classrooms for teaching web development, HTML, CSS and a bit of PHP. My idea is to have a apache server running on the teachers station, and then some how locking down the clients to publish to this 'server' over ftp. Any ideas how I can lock down to block all FTP traffic except this server and is it possible to use windows authentication over FTP? I was thinking of a firewall rule for 1st problem, do you have better ideas? And what software do you use/suggest for web development (Dreamweaver, Expression Web, CoffeCup, File Zilla, Cute FTP, Apache, IIS ...) , and why? Thanks
  4. try TrainSignal - Computer Training Videos - Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, CompTIA & more! read up on some qualifications e.g. Cisco CCNA, Comptia Network+ etc
  5. To access the BBC iPlayer as a home user you dont need a TV license, you only need that for there live streams. So surely anything that they post online is freely accessable for all (excluding curcemventing regional blocks).
  6. Well we have the unofficial go ahead from SLT I was hopeing to implement over summer 2011 but if I could do it any sooner than that would be better. I haven't yet considered profiles as I will stay at XP until the CC to vanilla transition is complete. I was planing on asking all of our staff to copy any documents that they cant bare to be without over the transition period onto a memory stick and leave there laptops alone over the holiday, so that they can do there work. This would mean though that after the holiday no staff laptops will be working which is a big problem. After the CC to vanilla transition I hope to upgrade a classroom at a time (to start with) and ensure everythings working.
  7. Hey guys, If I have a large CC3 network 500ish XP clients and I want to move to a vanilla XP/7 network in 6 weeks how is best to go about it? My initial ideas are to: 1. Setup a brand new server 2008 R2 as a new DC for a brand new domain. 2. Some how try to migrate existing active directory over to new DC 3. Simular process for mail server etc 4. Run some script on the existing clients to join them to a new domain. 5. Test things are working 6. Gradually upgrade to 7 a classroom at a time and provide staff training to be relayed to students. What do you think? Is this the best way to go about it or is there any kind of inplace upgrade path I can make? Thanks
  8. Hey guys, Can someone suggest a solution to my problem. I have 30 laptops that are used off site, currently setup as standalone machines, problem is staff and students using these devices must save there data to a memory stick and copy it to a computer when they are back at the main site and they can not access there documents remotely. Is there any way of syncing there data and documents to the local laptops? Thanks
