  1. Hi Folks, Needing a bit of advice as we have an SBS 2008 server that is starting to get a bit strained so looking to move Backup assist off it and also as we have the need to put in an Email archival system (GFI Mail Archiver) I want to get a new server for this role without breaking the bank and I get the feel adding GFI on this will just push the poor SBS box over the edge. Any advise most welcome. Conrad
  2. Cheers guys did end up going with a newer HP multifunction 8600, rather impressed so far much better than the old thing
  3. Hi Guys, Need a soho printer / copier / scanner / fax any recommendation? We have a HP multi function jobby at the moment, but it ain't the most reliable thing so another model preferably. Thanks in advance! Regards Conners
  4. We are a big fan of Web Help Desk, nice and easy to use with EDU pricing as well Web Help Desk - Powerful and Affordable Help Desk Software
  5. GAHHHHHH, boss has now decided to try getting hold of replacement mobo instead of new box
  6. Cheers folks thought it may have been the case, now time to find something not too overpriced.
  7. Okies time for a very daft question (after my boss said oh go on get something new within reason), the dell I have has OEM installs of Win7 pro and office 2007 and not too keen on having to shell out again for OS and Office. Is it gonna be possible to shift the disk over to a new machine and keep existing OS setup as it were?
  8. Hi Guys, Can anyone recommend a site / company in the UK for getting Dell spare parts as me faithful Optiplex 380 decided to snuff it over the weekend (PSU / motherboard death). Have been searching, but either me google fu is failing me or there ain't much in the way of half decently priced bits for this thing. Cheers in advance for any help. Conrad
  9. Hi folks, Not sure if the right place to post this, but after an attack of the vanishing A records with the host of a couple of our servers (records were there on the DNS control panel, but not on their DNS servers!) I am thinking about moving some domain names somewhere else with someone with reliable DNS hosting / replication. Would anyone have any suggestions on someone reliable to do so in the UK? Any help muchly appreciated! Regards John
  10. As me other thread, I'm gonna go plain 2008 R2 on this box now as trying to downgrade or get SBS to do what I want just ain't gonna happen.
  11. Unfortunately not in education, but we deal a great deal with the educational sector. Am going for plain 2008 R2 install and will sort the mail around it with 3rd party gateway instead of getting messy with trying to bend SBS to my will (I thinks I would lose badly). The current 2007 hub already has the anti spam stuff enabled and piping from an existing mail server (being replaced by this new box coz it's old and pants). Would of liked to have it all neatly using Exchange / Forefront etc, but after a lot of brain mashing research and help on here it's just not gonna happen at a sensible cost for the company or my sanity! Thanks for all the help folks!!
  12. Many thanks again, after looking into the cost for M$ licenses to make this work and adding Forefront for AV filtering etc it's going to get silly. Gonna slap in a 3rd party mail gateway from an exiting supplier of the software we currently use in the DMZ.
  13. Cheers sukh, had a chat with a buddy of mine who mentioned that I could slap win 2008 r2 on the box and just the 2007 edge role without need for an Exchange licence (or use of existing on)
  14. Hi Guys, Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but has done a license downgrade from SBS 2010 to SBS 2008? I ask as after much googling and banging my head off my monitor the most I can find is you can, but you / OEM has to provide the product key and M$ has not procedure for providing keys. Any help greatly appreciated!! Conrad
  15. Sony Computer Entertainment have dropped support for SOPA so the old PSN may be safe, but the other media arms are still down as officially supporting it; Sony and Nintendo drop SOPA support amid Anonymous threats - SlashGear
  16. Another thing is that you could try using the port 587 (the submission port) rather than port 25 (the MTA port). You have to use authentication and SSL to use the submission port. Ensure your receive connector is configured to allow basic authentication (it should be).
  17. Hi Alex, If you are using Exchange 2010 you can nobble the delay by doing the following; Fire up Exchange PowerShell on the hub transport server, and issue the following command: Set-ReceiveConnector "Connector Name" -MaxAcknowledgementDelay 0 This should take care of your issue. Regards Conrad
  18. Hi Folks, Quick Exchange question, will an Exchange 2007 server with hub / mailbox / etc roles function fine using with Exchange 2010 as an edge server? Or would I need to upgrade 2007 to 2010? Cheers Conrad
  19. Hi Guys, Could do with a bit of advice, we have a remote backup solution for a database (MySQL) currently provided by connectdr, but resold through our co-location server host. We have had an issue that caused the backup schedule to screw up at their end causing the uploads to fail. The big problem is their support is virtually non-existant and that they are wanting us to give them remote admin access to a sensitive machine with client data on. We cannot give them free reign on this server and they won't deal directly with an end user. Can anyone recommend a decent online backup provider to replace this useless bunch of £$%^wits? Cheers Conrad
  20. Cheers guys, I am actually attempting on the simulator and not having much joy with enrollment which is making me think a physical device is needed.
  21. Hi Guys, Could someone point me in the direction of a cheap Android (2.2+) based phone for testing out a Mobile Device Management product. A product we use has recently been given Android support and I need to test it for viability, as being a Blackberry man and me colleagues having iPhones I need a cheap test device. Any help greatly appreciated. Conrad
  22. It's a mix of both Server 2003 32bit and that the box itself can't physically support more than 4Gb (5 year old dell server that wasn't exactly top spec at the time).
  23. Most of the problems have been lately with the box only being capable of supporting 4Gb of memory and between the ticketing system and it's DB eating most of that it has been paging horribly causing issues with the other services.
  24. Hi folks, Need a wee bit of advise on a new rack mounted server to replace an old piece of &%$£ that has been causing me no end of issues due to lack of resources (OS and hardware limitations). Have been taking a look at the HP DL line-up and am sort of swayed towards either a 160 or 320. The server will be handling a new wordpress based site, a support ticketing system which is rather memory intensive, our external mail gateway and the databases to support each of them. I want to make sure that I have a box that is not going to run into the same issues I am having now in another couple of years. Conrad
