  1. It does work as an administrator. I did find the fix. I modified our student lockdown GPO to allow only the sound applet to appear in the control panel. Once the gpo took affect, students could plug in a microphone with no issue. This setting is under User Configuration>Policies>Administrative Templates>Control Panel. I enabled "Show only specified Control Panel items" and added mmsys.cpl to the list of allowed items.
  2. I have a pretty strict group policy enforced on our students. Recently, I was told in our elementary schools, when students plug in a microphone to record dialog for a project, they get a message saying, "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." I know it's my student policy because regular restricted users do not have this issue. Any ideas?
