sorry to join the forum late but have you seen this? http://www.vmware.com/products/ace/ the brilliant idea is that you create a vmware machine inside their laptop which you have full admin rights to and they do not. this way you are only responsible for the content on the vmware machine and they are able to do whatever they want on the laptop. it will even check av defs & allow users access to certain parts of the network depending on their logon etc. if you are still contemplating a solution i would advise you to read it. we don't allow students to bring in their laptops from home so i can't play with this myself but i hear it is very popular in universities around the country

225:1 we have: 456 machines incl teacher laptops, pcs, servers etc 32 iwb soon to be increased by another 25 15 waps that are forever needing our attn (i hate wireless) 80 teachers who need babysitting we are also charged with taking the it forward here. so we are constantly looking at new technologies that would add value to the school. we are in the middle of: installing an isa 2006 server exchange 2003/2007 - i haven't quite decided yet citrix...and all the TCs that go with it trying to get qca to work but that's for another forum i may have forgotten stuff as i sometimes glaze over when i think about the enormity of the task here

i agree with halfmad. when i did my mcse i drove from eastbourne, my home, to southend to do it. i worked a normal week and then got up at 6am on a saturday to make it to southend for 9am. i did that every saturday for a year but that sort of commitment says amazing things about you & the practical experience of the tutors is amazing. however, i've recently been doing my a+ via gtslearning(.com) CDs and those have been fantastic. so much so i am thinking of doing an mcse refresher, in windows 2003/vista, and using their disks to do it. the disks are cheap but are also available at half price if you order via an educational establishment. they are not as good as actually being in a classroom but, if you can't travel, they are much better than the books. i always fall asleep reading them things

i found it was blocked today but you can go into your rm admin webpage and allow it. i put *.logmein.com* and this allowed me to access both http://www.logmein.com and secure.logmein.com and all other pages after that. i don't really understand why they would want to ban it either. i love checking on my downloads from work

i would say go for at least three disks for the apps, if you can get it passed the bean counter, and raid5 it. just in case

we had exactly the same problem and used windows 2003 gpedit to enforce screen locks. however, it caused such a fuss amongst the teachers who were "unable" to use CAD combo that we were forced to take it off. they didn't see the irony of all this info being made accessible to all who wanted it. anyway, the setting is gpedit.msc > user config > admin templates > control panel > display (don't hit the + sign). the last four settings there will do everything you want

hi guys, sorry to come into this debate a bit late but i am still quite new to working in a school and didn't know too much about this as it is being handled by our head of ict curriculum. however, qca testing has become a live issue at our school because having read your experiences i wanna drop it but the headteacher and head of ict curr wanna keep it. for those people who are thinking of dropping it, do you have any alternatives that i can present to test ks3 ict?

i think capita are saying that as of 1 August you will HAVE to be on sql2005. this update, and all future updates, will only support sql2005. so any practice that you can get on sql2005 will be invaluable come the summer. however, if your requirement is urgent then the current release, of sims, will work on sql2005 but it is NOT fully compatible and capita will not support this environment. my understanding of licensing, which i admit is sadly lacking, is that if you've paid your money then you can install any version that you want. so you may have to pay again for the sql2000 media but i would definitely keep hold of the sql2005 media as you will need it very shortly. obviously, you will have to purchase additional sql licenses depending on what you have already purchased.
