  1. Lots of options: Downloads - KeePass It's Open Source, meaning it's more likely to be supported than a proprietary (like LastPass)
  2. If the syncing is down to you, what advantage does it have over something like KeePass, which is free and open source?
  3. Time to move to KeePass with Dropbox sync I think
  4. Had a quick go last night on swarm mode (or whatever it's version of it is called) - can definitely see the fun to be had with friends. Weapons felt a bit lame, I mean I know there's no reason for a laser pistol to have recoil but it just feels so... puny. That said, the smart rockets didn't give much feedback either. It certainly looks stunning though and as a lifelong Star Wars fan, I will admit to letting out a joyous giggle at the theme tune, another the first time I shot a Storm Trooper and a big dirty grin when the first AT-ST came at me (even if I was then disappointed that I appeared to be taking a hell of a lot of fire power from it with little damage...)
  5. Sure For these examples, I'm going to assume your user's Documents are mapped to U: drive, and that they contains a folder called website, which in turn contains folders called www and mysql. You need to edit your apache config to point at the mapped drive and folder. Which conf file to edit will depend which portable server you're using, but it's usually httpd.conf. In there, you'll see a section, which will have an option 'DocumentRoot' - change that to U:/website/www/ Next, edit your MySQL conf. Look for an option called 'datadir' and change it to U:/website/mysql/ - you'll also want to copy the contents of the original data dir to the new directory, and possibly hide the directory from the user as you won't want them editing the files directly. Start up your server and it should be working you may need to change the port that's used (80) to something else, we use 8080 as it's easy to remember
  6. We've been experimenting with various "portable server" setups, haven't settled on a particular one yet but uWAMP appears to be the best to me. Assuming their Documents folder is mapped to a drive (or can be), we've got it setup so that the program sits on each PC's C: drive, with Apache and MySQL setup to look in a folder on the mapped drive. This way, whichever student logs in and starts the server will get their own site running and they just save to their Documents folder, utilising your existing backup system and not tying them to one machine. Plus it means they each have their own DB so if they accidentally drop all tables, it's only their own work that's gone!
  7. Just had an email from the DfE after I emailed asking whether or not this would affect our funding, reply was (verbatim): "It appears you have been informed wrongly. The Post-16 Portal is not linked to funding at all. It is the Census that is related to the EFA funding."
  8. @CAM - they've dropped the requirement in the latest version of the EFA funding agreement. Sly! But at least you don't have to break your back to get it done today. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/459535/EFA_Funding_guidance_2015_to_2016.pdf Reading around SupportNet, sounds as though the EFA had wrongly published information claiming it was required, but DfE had said not. EFA silently replaced the document stating requirement with one missing that point. Very likely will be a requirement for next year though I think.
  9. Do you have a link please? Need to check this out ASAP; glad you mentioned it!
  10. I haven't heard of this... which concerns me :/
  11. Have an image now of a gaunt looking @enjay sat in front of the machine, pale white but for the soft blue glow of the monitor, uttering repeatedly and without pause "configuring updates three of three, configuring updates three of three, configuring updates three of three..."
  12. Double check that is the case by entering their UPN on K2S (or NCA Tools for current Y7) but if so, they won't be counted in your VA/expected progress/progress 8 measures. Full details in section G of this document (P. 30): http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/performance/secondary_13/KS2-4_Performance_Tables_General_VA_Guide_2013_FINAL.pdf

    SIMS RAG

Did you hit 'Calculate' at the top of the marksheet? You'll have to do this for any marksheet where the data has already been entered, however if on the template you check the 'calculate on data entry' box, it'll happen automatically in future (unless it's entered via SLG, when you'll have to calculate manually again)

Use a "nested if...else" formula column for review. You the set up each condition to make the column your chosen colour, and also to colour the original column. Finally, make sure "Calculate on data entry" is ticked on the template so it happens automatically. example (the value for the calculated column isn't critical here, but can be used if you wanted to make further calculations):
  15. I made a tool to do this a while ago: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4779199/SIMSImageGrabber%20Source.zip The source is included in that file too if you want to take a look - it's very messy but you can see how it works EDIT: The SIMS reports you pass to this should contains: Students: Surname & Forename, Admission number, External Id, Photo, Person_id, UPN Staff: ID, Photo, Title, Preferred Surname, Preferred Forename, Initials, Teacher You can of course change the columns you include in your own program, these are the ones mine looks for.
  16. The whole thing is a huge waste of time - the DfE already has the results! The ULN/UPN/UCI are all present and accounted for in our census returns, they could automatically pull the data they need (and I reckon they probably do anyway rather than take our word for it) I'm convinced it's somebody's job somewhere to come up with a new random, mundane, pointless task to set us on the census every year. Some sort of professional DfE troll!
  17. ...is this certain? If so, this is going to be a major headache! How on Earth am I supposed to know where those student's are now?! There is a tool to populate your own students' PA from the exams module if you've been using it - "Tools > Statutory Returns > Update Prior Attainment"
  18. Having some weird issues with my PS4, thinking of returning it under warranty (has 3 weeks left on it!) but as it seems like a software issue, I'm wondering if anyone had this issue and has been solved by an update (been without Internet for 3 months so no updates in that time) If my PS4 goes in to rest mode, or if any connected pad goes to sleep, then when I turn either the PS4 or the pad back on, none of my pads will connect to the PS4. The only way to solve it is to boot the PS4 in to safe mode with a pad connected via USB, after a restart the pads will then connect again without issue (until the next time something goes to sleep) At the moment, I've just stopped using rest mode and set the pads to never turn off. It's not ideal and obviously if this is a sign the PS4 is dying, I'd like to replace it. However I've heard Sony's warranty repairs are god awful and cost a small fortune...
  19. I think some people are somewhat missing the point here. The "inventor" tag which people are taking issue with is one that was given to him by the media and, being a teenager, Ahmed accepted; would most of you not at his age? Anyone who's interested in electronics, coding, music or anything else with an element of creativity will have been in a similar position to Ahmed whereby, through sheer excitement, they've wanted to show off whatever they've done, regardless of the simplicity. Altered a line of code in a larger program so it says "Hello earthling" in stead of "Hello World"? Wow, gotta show someone! Got a tab off the internet and played Smoke on The Water on guitar? Wow, gotta show someone! Took apart something electronic and built it in to a new enclosure? Wow, gotta show someone! I find it quite upsetting that so many people are out to question Ahmed's credibility; he's an excited child and should be encouraged, not ridiculed. His achievement, no matter how small to those more experienced, should be congratulated so that he pursues his hobby further to a point where he can make his own clock from components, and then more. Further to that, the school did not seriously think this was a bomb threat; this was institutionalised bullying at best, almost undoubtedly motivated by racism. They did not call a bomb squad. They sat in a room with "the bomb" while they questioned the boy. The "bomb" was not destroyed. The school was not evacuated. Nothing that would normally be done in the case of an actual bomb scare was done. They did not believe it was a bomb. Is Ahmed an inventor? No, not yet. But with the encouragement of the many organisations that have come forward, perhaps one day he will be.
  20. Where are you based? Will help narrow down your options
  21. Is it live or does it update at set intervals? If it's live (i.e. as soon as you change something in SIMS, the change is reflected in Inventry) then you're pretty much stuck without their support (or possibly someone else on here who uses it!) If there's a delay, it's probably using CommandReporter to pull data, in which case have a look at the reports defined in your SIMS to find which it runs - the supplier name will help and the report name will probably be a give away. Just double check that if you run them manually, the data is populated as expected.
  22. Doesn't sound like he tried to make it look like a bomb to me. EDIT: presumably the tiger was in reference to his school's logo: http://www.irvingisd.net/cms/lib010/TX01917973/Centricity/Template/GlobalAssets/images///logos/irving-02.png EDIT2: sorry for the size of the image, apparently the school could do with a lesson in web design too.
  23. Assuming the article hasn't made it all up - they're still thinking of charging him for making a hoax bomb, despite the fact they acknowledge: a) it is a clock b) the accused only ever said it was a clock c) the only person who called it a bomb was his (ignorant) teacher I'm sure there are a fair few on here who have played with Raspberry Pis and/or Arduinos; can you imagine being charged with making a hoax bomb just because some ignorant person assumed it was a bomb, despite the fact it contains absolutely zero explosives and you never having claimed otherwise? It's a very dangerous precedence to set if police can start charging people for their own (acknowledged!) ignorance.
  24. Seems like a pretty clear cut case of racism to me.
  25. I'm planning on making the server look like a mini-HAL actually... tempting fate?
