  1. Mine eventually just loaded after many errors. I did read this in the faq so staff still have a few months if they prefer the older one. Project Professional 2019 and Visio Professional 2019 will continue to be offered to eligible customers.
  2. Based on the second paragraph of this article I though that behaviour had changed? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/320246/inherited-permissions-are-not-automatically-updated-when-you-move-fold
  3. Yes copy and paste works fine which I've told them to do for now but if they cut and paste they get the behaviour reported above. Which apparently was by design pre server 2003 but was changed for vista and 2008.The article above shows the old behaviour returned as a bug in 2008 and win 7 which they released a hotfix for but that's no longer available and says it's not needed in newer versions anyway. Only other result I found on the internet with the same behaviour was someone on windows 7/server 2008 but that might have been dfs related which isn't being used on our shared area. I don't think anyone responded to that with a solution anyway.
  4. Hi, Has anyone experienced this, know if this is a known bug, or if certain configs cause this. I understand this was the design in server 2003 and below but not in anything newer. I'm not sure if we've always had this issue and no ones noticed or if it's started recently. When users move a file on the shared area from one folder to another the file isn't inheriting the new folders permissions. This is on a shared area where the original folder has inherited permissions and the new folder has inheritance disabled and explicit permissions set. This is the same issue as described in this Microsoft article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2560088/file-permissions-inherited-from-one-folder-persist-after-the-files-are However I'm using Server 2012 and windows 10 1803. Thanks
  5. Might be a completely different problem if yours works sometimes but do you have redirected app data? I found it didn't like working from it. Only way I got it working was to install pepper flash on the computer. It either takes precedence over the app data one or must try the app data one and then revert to the local version.
  6. Has anyone rolled out windows 10 with Microsoft Edge on a network with redirected app data and roaming profiles. If so has anyone figured out how to get Edge preferences to roam or redirect? Most settings appear to be stored in Local app data which we delete on log off to stop other problems and obviously being a school users use all sorts of different computers anyway. I can't find much on the internet other than the fact that it stores them locally and doesn't redirect or roam. Are people just not using edge in this scenario, don't care about the preferences, or i'm missing something simple that everyone's done to fix it and isn't worth posting online? I get the impression it's like this for all windows apps. Favourites are fine as they sync with IE but anything like the zoom settings or adding the favourites bar get lost at each logon. Any help appreciated.
  7. Hi, Does anyone who's using google apps have a good way of sharing contacts via a global address book? I know you can enable contact sharing to create a global address book but i don't want the students to be able to see it plus it would have all the staffs random contacts in. I've tried the Apptivo app but it doesn't quite do what i want. Anyone found anything better? thanks Ben

  9. Hi, We're introducing papercut at the start of the new financial year and plan on charging departments for what they print. To do this we plan on increasing all departments capitation and i wondered how everyone else on here has done it? Did all departments get the same amount of increase? If not how did you determine who got what? Thanks Ben
  10. All Sorted. There's an RM update (CC4UPD093) which installs a new version of the RM Network Monitor service. Once this is installed on the workstations papercut works fine. The update is only available upon request, it's not with the others to download. Ben
  11. I don't have a direct support contract with RM so i've raised it with our county support who can then raise it with RM on my behalf. I also can't access DWN1781986 to see if that works as i don't have sufficient rights. The reason it works on Windows 7 must be because that service doesn't exist on our Windows 7 workstations.
  12. Thanks Guys, it is the RM Network Monitor Service. I disabled it and it worked straight away. The service seems to be running from C:\Program Files\Research Machines\Auditor\Network Monitor. We never use Auditor as it never seemed to work properley so i uninstalled it from a workstation but the service remained as it's a default system package which i don't think you can remove. Does anyone know if this is definitely only related to auditor or will disabling the service cause other problems? I might completely uninstall auditor and see if it removes the service from system packages.
  13. Sorry if this isn't the right forum, Couldn't decide which one to put it in. We recently installed Papercut v12 on our member server which works perfectly but we've now installed it as a secondary print server on all computers with a locally attached printer. It installs fine and the log reports that it is connected to the primary server but after about 5 minutes it looses connection and never gets it back. Therefore never reports any printing. This is on an RM CC4 network, Server 2003 member server with XP workstations. However if we install the secondary print server on a Windows 7 workstation it works fine. Anyone got any idea what could be causing it? I wasn't planning to roll out windows 7 until Summer and could do with getting this sorted before the new financial year. Thanks in advance for any help. Ben
  14. Thanks for your reply. I ended up opening a support ticket with the company. Turns out it was a proxy problem. I had to send them the security.mdb file and my proxy details and then they sent it back including those details. I replaced the original file and it worked. They said it was a known problem with CC4 and responded really quickly although i couldn't find anything relating to it on there support site. Ben
  15. Hi, Did you ever get this sorted? Just moved ours from the admin network to the CC4 network and i'm getting exactly the same error. Thanks ben

    Hard glass monitors?

thats funny, we have exactly the same monitor sitting on the same worktop in the office also with a smashed screen. It's the second one we've had smashed so far.

    Hard glass monitors?

Thanks for the replies everyone. Think we will stick with hard glass for now.
  21. Hi, All our tft monitors at the moment are hard glass but I'm wondering if we really need them for our next suite upgrade. There seems to be a bit of a shortage at the moment. Does anyone here use normal tft monitors and do you have any problems with damage to the screens? Thanks Ben

  23. we've started putting some veriton n260's in admin offices as replacements for some really old computers. In fact i have two being set up in the office right now. We've been really impressed with them. We first bought one to test and had it set up next to a dell that had 3 GB ram and core 2 duo. The difference was barely noticeable for things like office and SIMS which is all most of our admin staff need. It couldn't handle youtube HD very well which i suppose is good as they shouldn't be on you tube anyway. Staff are pleased with them too, no complaints at all so far. They love that it sits on the back of the monitor. think we paid about £230 ex vat without a monitor. This was with acers dual load which allows you to restore the computer to XP or windows 7 and comes with both licenses. As with most acer's there's lots of junk to uninstall.
