Hi Nick, hope progress on V8 is coming along nicely I have another desirable request... I like how in the my files options you have a send to google docs option... I was showing your platform to a council curriculum consultant for the area I operate in... He was of the opinion that Google cloud stuff was a massive no-no for schools as somewhere in their fine print it says that once uploaded, it technically becomes property of Google. I didnt bother to argue! What i wondered is, how hard/is it doable to use Microsofts skydrive instead? a few benefits if you ask me, its based around office web apps so word docs etc are in a more native file format. It would be great, because a Headteacher i know was very keen on the live collaboration of documents (that both google docs and skydrive/word web app can do) Hope this makes sense Cheers Andy

Hi nick, Firstly, this is a great project... Amazing that you're happy to share it with everyone. My dream request.... Any chance of building in some kind of basic document editor(doesn't need to be as fancy as office web apps etc)? Was thinking it would be immense for mobile users to be able to make alterations to word docs etc... Something of that nature anyway? We have a lot of potential iPad users, and this platform works superb on it, but only in a read only fashion pretty much Maybe something for version 9? Haha Anyways, top bloke and cheers again Andy

guys i know nobody has replied to this thread for a little while but i know how frustrating that 6mbps connection rate thing is.... I've not read all the posts past the first few so please apologise if the OP got this sorted or someone sorted it for them etc etc Basically, I had this problem in one of our schools (support company, look after 50+ schools).... literally we spent a whole week there trying out different things, settings etc etc with the Ruckus gear to solve this problem.... no joy..... In the end, we got an RF frequency scanner..... turns out, particularly in slightly older schools, that the installed alarm PIR sensors emit microwaves in the 2.4 GHz range.... these sensors pre-date wireless data and they obviously thought it was a safe range to use..... basically they absolutley scream RF interference out from about channel 5 up to about 10.... The origional poster mentions there were only certain classrooms that seemed to get poor performance while others were not problematic. Sounds to me like the working classrooms either a) didnt have one of these particular kind of PIR's in them or b) those Ruckus AP's happened to assign themselves one of the few channels thats far enough away from the interference ( mainly 1 or 13). Those asking why didnt the ZoneDirector swap channels etc.... well my theory is that it only picks up noise from data sources and adjust channels accordingly, not from such things as microwaves! If anyone else is having this issue, defo check your alarm sensors! It absolutley never occured to us that it maybe those until we got the RF scanner (we got the Wi-Spy 2.4i... about 60 quid but proved invaluable). Since we discovered those PIR's we knew what to look for in similar school sites with reported 'issues'....turns out we found those sensors in about 10 more of our schools. A good indication that this is whats happening is to look through the AP's logs in the ZoneDirector, think you have to export to a text file or something but in there you will see a feild 'phy errors' or something.... Those are physical errors.... in our situation these were literally running up towards 100's of thousands in minutes. Anyways, hope this helps the OP and anyone else who stumbles across this thread

Just to add my 2 pennies worth as a CCNA.... Whilst the Deny statement is implied you should always include your own deny statement at the the end of every ACL for logging/debugging purposes

Defo sounds like Dolby Digital Downmixing to me... Do the soundcards support dolby digital? Also, check the audio on the DVD isn't a DTS sound track? What i would try, most DVD's have some kind of audio commentary from director etc.... thats noramlly always just 2 channel stereo. I'd try swapping the soundtrack to that and see if it comes through right. Should tell you wether its a downmixing prob or something underlaying

Yeah, Think i'll just have to get all the right people to log onto their laptops at one particular time to set them as the primary user on their laptops. well worth the effort if it works.

Teejay, The prob with that bud, is all teachers are in the same group membership and all exist in one OU.... i couldnt distinguish one teacher from another with restrictions based on a policy or distribution group. The problem is teachers using other teachers laptops.... not, say, pupils using teachers laptops. Cheers buddy

jsnetman, That pretty much sounds bob on what we want to happen.... i like the the notion of a 'primary' users. just to clarify a few bits.... "Use one of the following formats to type a user name: domain\username S-1-5-21-397955417-626881126-188441444-2201386 This is a user account security ID (SID) in text form." so these are 2 methods? either 'domain\username' OR the SID? i think i could work with the 'domain\username' to automate something given enough play-time. I tell you what tho, if these features exists (which it obviously does judging by these regkeys) would it REALLY have been that hard for Microsoft to add a button in GUI to set it up properly???? i mean, c'mon Bill.... sort it out eh??? haha Cheers matey, I'll try your way first!

I'm gonna be askin alot more technical stuff on here from now on (unlucky! haha) Jsnetman, you should defo look into what that loop-back offers.... it's mucho handy being able to set user settings based on the PC a user is sat at rather than just there username.

so that should do it then right? lets say for example i have a teacher joe.bloggs..... Their laptop is in an OU called 'teacher_laptops' and it has a GPO attached to that OU that has loop-back enabled (so i can minipulate it based on the computer not user) and also has the setting to not auto sync every redirected folder it encounters. Then on joe.bloggs' actual laptop i can add to the registry (in the containers you posted) the folder '\\server\teacher_drives\joe.bloggs'... that will just sync joe.bloggs and nobody else's right? please tell me thats right haha

i suspect you maybe right that this is the only feasable way to do it server side. I work for a private contractor support primary schools.... so theirs maybe only 16 laptops that need to be setup per site.... i would set it up at every site i visit tho (50+) I must say, its great this site... the response has been great from you guys

ok, next question then haha... you must be able to set the administrativly assigned offline folders locally somewhere in the REG on the client PC? what i'm thinkin is... If i set a GPO on the server to 'do not automatically make redirected folders available offline' to enabled... clean out the cached files on said laptops.... then set in the reg (HKLM) of said laptops the location of 'administrativly assigned offline folders' to sync.... that could work you think? It would certainly stop everyone who logs on from auto adding their redirected my docs (home drive) to the sync list... and if i can set the stuff i DO want to sync locally on each laptop, i can be folder specific as i know who is the owner of each laptop. My brain is confused! haha

have any of you guys ever setting specific things on the local policy on a client... just wondering the priority that gets placed on the policies... I presume GPO's are processed first and then the local policy? or is it vice versa?

but how would i specifically set the UNC for the administrative offline folder.... ok i could filter it to a group of people (teachers) but i'd have to use %username% in the unc address so all the computers in the OU wouldnt just sync that 1 persons folder(the person I specified in the address in the GPO)... so surely it would add each teacher that logged onto the laptop??? i maybe wrong.... never messed around too much with filters. I mean this way would stop pupils home drives from sync'ing, granted. why oh why isnt there an option client side to specify which users can have offline files!!! haha

I think that would bring us back to needing a GPO for each individual computer account

So i take it that none of you think setting the administrative offline folders bit in GPEDIT will work then? As thats local to the machine.... it could be set specifically for the owner of that laptop and not set per user. Hopefully that would work, maybe in conjunction with the script jsnetman mentioned just to make sure it gets rid of any new folders for different users that may have logged on. I'll have to do some checking on GPO's versus local policy via GPEDIT! Just on a side note, What's different in VISTA/W7's handling of offline files compared to WinXP Iain? The laptop maybe able to cope with Vista, but i couldnt! haha

just having a think.... What if i set a GPO on the OU containing the Teachers laptops.... and in it tell it not to auto sync folders and that.... what if i then went to each teachers laptop and used GPEDIT.MSC to specifiy which folder to sync. Would that work you think, or would it not even pick up the local machine policy?

If thats set in GPO.... does that mean i'd have to give each laptop account its own specific GPO? How else will it distinguish which users home drive to Sync and exclude every other user? Appreciate your help alot
