  1. Ive been buying the Dell Optiplex 390 series in both its desktop and SFF sizes. Seem like a nice robust machine, plenty of speed for a decent price (paying around £350 a unit with a 3/Year warranty)
  2. No Problem. Glad to be of service
  3. If you the old foldername and the new foldername all you should need is to (in the folder they are in) run the rename command from a prompt. rename OLDFOLDERNAME *space* NEWFOLDERNAME i.e. rename test1 1test would take the folder 'test1' and rename it '1test' now, with excel if you have 3 columns. ColA with 'rename' ColB with oldfoldername and ColC with newfoldername and save it as a csv file. Once as a CSV file, open it in notepad or similar (i use notepad++) and replace all the commas with a space using find and replace. Save as a batch file and run. I use this method a lot for bulk commands, creating folders, security permissions, AD stuff etc. Hope this makes sense.
  4. When you say not working as you'd like, what is it not doing?? I have a similar set of folders, where users can 'drop' work into them, but not delete it once its there.. I managed to get it working ok using the Special Permission.
  5. Had it on my core desktop and laptop since it came out last week, and liking it so far. Im a heavy Outlook user, connected to 3 Exchange servers and couple of POP accounts. Am getting used to it, but there is a lot of empty space when used on big monitors. Not had any stability issues yet.. Only problem i have so far is that when you open and save documents, it wants to save everything to Skydrive, and not default to My Documents or any other folder.. Find it a little annoying having to change it everytime.
  6. Unfortunately, Yes.. Candidates have been shortlisted and notified of Interview Dates. Sorry
  7. So True, Ammo's for wimps! This and the Gravity gun is all you need.
  8. This one.. I also have a couple set to disable cached exchange mode. You need to have the ADMX for office on first though
  9. The Tablet stuff is a Feature. If you goto programs and features, and remove the Tablet PC Components feature, i think that sorts it..
  10. http://www.speedtest.net/result/2046696000.png Not too bad for in the office... The one at home isn't far behind either which is nice. http://www.speedtest.net/result/2046698787.png Just need to work on the upload
  11. That will work, but also when your in an explorer window, hit ALT and the old menu comes up with your tools options etc.

Sorry for the delay in replying, been away since Wednesday aft. I have uploaded a modified version of my software.. This will enable the proxy settings automatically when opened (whatever is currently set in IE) If you hit the Disable proxy button, it turns them off. If you do nothing it will automatically close after a few seconds. GET IT HERE Any trouble, queries let me know. Jon p.s. Apologies for the gratuitous advertising, but i'm going self employed next month and need as much publicity as possible.
  14. Sounds like you've got a friday afternoon mondey. Im currently running and 06 plate Mondeo Estate TDCI Titanium X, with just over 92k on it. Its had an exhaust and some tires (3 sets to be exact) in the 2 years and 50,000 miles ive owned it. Spot on. And the best bit is i have a friend with a Porsche 928 (V8) and he can't keep up on country lanes.

We had a similar problem with users taking their laptops home and not being able to use it. I wrote a VB program that ran at logon, automatically set the proxy, but asked the user if they wanted to 'work from home' and disabled the proxy settings. It assumes your at school unless you tell it otherwise, so you don't have to do anything if your at school, only press the I'm at Home button if your not in school. Worked quite well, tested on Win7, but should work easy enough on other Win OS's too. Its currently configured for our proxy settings but can easily be modified for your own settings.. If you want a copy, let me know, ill dig it out
  19. +1 for Virtue here too. They have been used here for all Server Maintenance and Major Network, Server works for a few years. Very good, great service, good prices. Would recommend.
  20. +1 for Spiceworks here too. Couldn't live without it.
  21. My Job is up for Grabs, as i'm leaving. ICT Network Manager, St John Fisher Catholic High School, Wigan Full details can be found on our website. St. John Fisher Catholic High School Wigan If you have any questions at all, please feel free to PM me.
  22. Cheers, Should have said that the updates are managed through WSUS, so I know they are getting them. Also, not too worried about the Music and Photos stuff as we have File Server Resource Manager running
  23. We are having a little discussion about whether we should allow access to Pen Drives for our Admin Staff. We have 2 logically seperate networks, one for Admin and one for Curric. At the moment, they dont have access to Pen Drives at all, (they can plug them in, but have not read permissions, and they are hidden in My computer) members of the Curric network do. This is causing us some grief at the moment and we are discussing the potential AV risks of letting them use them. We get that there is a risk of virus's etc on pendrives, but how serious is it, with uptodate machines (win7, all updates) and updated antivirus on all machines and servers. (Avast Business) Do we allow them access to use Pen Drives, which will make life easier? How much of a risk is there, really? Any thoughts?? Jon
  24. Ive managed to deploy it using a script to check whether its currently installed and then install it using MSIEXEC if not. But, I now have it installed on a server and will be sharing it and running it from there.
  25. Morning all, Ive recently taken over a NM in a school, and found a large number of problems that needed attention. I think ive cracked all the serious/security ones, and am now on the little niggly annoying things. Does anyone now how to remove the E-mail this File option in the Files and Folder Tasks in XP?? I know its not that important, and Ill be taking the network to 7 in the summer, but this is properly doing my nut in!
